The most encouraging thing about these people is that they attract teen agers to old time Gospel music..... kids who pass up rock and rap and look for the things of Christ. And, they look eager and bright eyed as well. I would love to pastor a church full of these folks.
I've cried and shouted to this all day today. I've listened to this about 12 times today. I miss this type of singing in the church of God. . (Cleveland TN one ) we must get back to these good songs. so much truth, doctrine, Holy Spirit , in these songs.. thank you for this video. it's blessed me so much today and many days to Come
You are absolutely right. I remember the Church of God used to sing these songs. Yes, Cleveland TN churches. Unfortunately we don't hear these songs these days.
I was privileged to grow up in a musically talented Church of God family, my dad a pastor, most of my Aunts, Uncles and siblings playing and singing in church, camp meetings, etc. through out my life. This is the kind of music I grew up on and have loved from my earliest memories. I was even blessed to have several of my own songs published in Church of God Convention Song Books. This singing is a gift worth passing on to the generations coming up. Keep singing and I'll keep being blessed!
I wish I could hear, play on the piano, and sing your songs. This is the truest kind of Gospel Music. I also wish I could get my hands on a copy of "The Red Hymn Book." I think The Church Of God published it. As a Baptist, we used to sing those songs. Now, many of the Southern Baptist Churches act as if they're scared of The Holy Spirit. 😉
Our two sons, one of our daughters-in-law, my brother and I were honored to be a part of the school. My father taught shaped note singing schools for about 30 years. He had about 100 songs published in convention singing books. I praise God for this type of music everyday and am said that it is declining.
Tracy Phillips. She's one of the premier gospel pianists of our generation. Her mother, Eloise, has been the teacher of many, many professional gospel music pianists. Tracy and her mother played piano and organ at their home church for many years. Tracy has won a Dove award for her Christmas album (JUST piano, no backup or orchestration). Her piano solo books are published by Word Publishing. She has also worked with world class orchestras. You are seeing here a very small slice of her talent, but it is definitely informed by what she CAN do. She has literally been playing all her life, as she started lessons with her mother (remember, THE premier teacher in all of gospel music) when she was just four years old.
kerryincolumbus Tracey appears on an early 90s Gaither video playing piano. She looks adorable -- and impossibly young. 😁 [edit: Our good friend Isaiah Shelley has kindly recalled that the song is Beautiful Star of Bethlehem feat. Ben Speer. Song sleuths note: there are several takes of the song, but Tracey -on piano - is the lead-off on the one we found. Thanks, Isaiah!]
An awesome song that I have never heard and I have been around church music all my life. I play the piano and did for the church for over 20 years. I really enjoyed this lady's piano playing. She thrilled me the way she played this style of music. I searched everywhere for copies of this particular song and cannot find it anywhere. The words of this song can preach any day of the week. In Christ, we do look forward to that great and glorious day. Hallelujah!! Thank you for giving us this video.

This music is still alive. There are Hymn Sings popping up around the South. We started one here in Chattanooga. In a old wooden church. Our first one we had 175 people attend to sing out of the Red Back Hymnal, (Blue if you are Church of God). Great time of singing the old songs!
Jeff, there are some FB pages on Red Back Hynm sings. Check that out. There is one in April north of Bham at Gardendale Baptist Church in April. Worth the drive.
The message and the presentation is great. This song brings back so many memories. Keep singing for Jesus. I know He is smiling when He hears His Children Praise Him like this. May God Bless all of YOU!
Just found this song! I remember going as a young person to Stamps Baxter schools and loved them! This gal playing the piano is awesome! She reminds me of my Aunt Grace playing an old upright at the little Church of the Nazarene in Alabama that my Grandpa and Daddy built. It has since been bought by a family member and turned into his home.So glad it was not destroyed but has carried on our heritage! SONG HAS TOUCHED ME !!
what a rich heritage we have in the Church of God with the many talented writers such as Vep Ellis, Chas Wycuff and Charles Towler shown in this video. What a shame that this music is not perpetuated except for the southern states. God bless all of you. Don
Uriah Peep I know. I'm church of God and it's so sad at the direction our church and churches as a whole has gone. this type of singing is what we had when we were great. this contemporary stuff has destroyed our worship services. so sad. I preach against this new wave. I want no part of it, this here is worship.
WOW!!!! I can only imagine the magnitude of being in the presence of those singers. Totally awesome. Great song. Surely the presence of the Lord was in that place!!!
I am so glad i stumbled upon this video. I went to the stamps baxter school of music when i was 15 yrs old. This brings back great memories!!! I see Tom Powell hasnt lost his awesome direction and Tracy sounds awesome as she did then in 1998...Patrick Crawford, Mebane NC

John Daniels of the John Daniels quartet offered to sponsor my Mother to attend the Stamps Baxter Singing School when she was 17 years old... back in 1939 from Canton Georgia. She decided at the last minute not to take him up on the offer... A decision she always regretted. She did however answer the call to play piano and sing Alto in place of Eva Mae LeFevre in the 1940s when she would be ill... :-)

There are so many songs that I would love to get the music w/lyrics and can't find them. Such as "He Wrote My Name" and "I Know I'm Saved". If anyone knows where I can get this music please let me know. I wish you would do all your music like this.
Sandra Reeves Sandra, if you go to the Stamps-Baxter website, I'm pretty sure they have it, or can put you in touch with someone with access to the sheet music. Our choir director could find the sheet music when I was growing up and singing in the choir. We also sang in choral groups, church choirs, and even high school chorus. I was also a member of a quartet for several years. I hope this helps.

ONE WORD HERE:BEAUTIFUL!
Why can't we have singing like this now in churches. I grew up with type of singing.
So did I. This type of singing is all but gone in Southern Baptist Churches in S.C. Sometimes, you still hear it in AL, GA, and TN.
Amen!
Try a small church of christ.
What a glorious day that will be thank you Jesus. Beautiful song well sung by this beautiful choir.
