@Perseus Really? Haven't you heard the "If you think this story will have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention" qoute from Martin? I mean, he's been writing this series for so long that I wouldn't be surprised if he changed his mind, but I always got the impression that this series would end similar to his scifi book "Dying of the Light" where the planet stops revolving around the sun and goes hurling through space until everyone on earth freezes to death
@@danculbert6349 The problem with a bad ending is that it makes all the sacrifice and suffering feel utterly pointless. Why fight if there's no reward for it? Might as well just give up and let the Night King win.
1:52:19 It doesn't just cheapen Jon, most importantly it cheapens Tyrion. Tyrion being the perfect heir to Tywin (and being the most similar to him) despite Tywin hating him is a great part of his character. And it would be all for nothing if Tywin's "you are not my son" stuff were true.
not necessarily, Jons real father was Rhaegar Targaryen but he grew up with ned as his father and arguably took after him more than his trueborn children (Robb and Arya betraying their word, bravery and command, etc). so it would offer an interesting parallel between Jon and Tyrion both inheriting their Targaryen traits whilst following in the footsteps of the men who raised them.
fuck me dude, you just consistently cook up these banger rewrites. The scene where Littlefinger looks over the dead with genuine fear on his face was just perfect. Oh and just everything you did with Jaime, outstanding.
@@Audentior_Ito I like that Littlefinger got to play the game all the way to the end. He is, in a certain way, the main villain of the series, and directly responsible for starting pretty much everything that went down in the series. It was a shame they whacked him off so unceremoniously.
With every re-write that comes out, its actually astounding how 99% of fan re-writes are miles better than what we got. D&D really should have given the show over to the HotD showrunner, instead of rushing to the finish line. HBO wanted more seasons, GRRM wanted more seasons the fans wanted more as long as it was good.
@@danculbert6349 They were working on the main show at that time, the showrunners even tried to talk to HBO about taking over the show since D&D were checking out, they said no, then Ryan Condell moved over to Amazon to work on a Conan series, that also didn`t make any substantial progress, and they got re-hired by HBO to make HoTD
Amazing overall. The ending was perhaps too positive and too deep into rebuilding details but I love the take on the night king, kings landing complexities, and Arya. Honestly the actual show largely wasted little finger as a slow burn antagonist and made John/Denaris very one sided
@@ccibinel agreed, I would have Dani staying good (mostly) just having a bit of a temper tantrum with the dragons! Such an epic show absolutely ruined by two guys thinking about their next project 🤬🤬
It's probably too wholesome to fit GRRM's vision for the story, but I can't help but smile at the parts. And thanks for doing Dany justice, this is the closest any fan ending has gotten to "the house with the red door". Also I see your little references to LotR's ending there, with the Mountain as a stinger villain. Or was that coincidence? In any case, if the ending invokes similar feelings to LotR's then I'd say it's a damn good ending.
I've watched so many "how I'd rewrite the end of GoT" videos just trying to undo the damage the writers who shall not be named did to the television show via the last 1-2 seasons. To undo that psychic damage that was season 8 especially, I've been looking for one rewrite to view as my substitute head canon ending until GRRM's estate releases the book (we all know he won't finish it). Thay way, I can go about rewatching the original seasons with enjoyment. Thanks to you, I have found my new head Canon! This is incredible and everything I'd hoped for out of the television series; thank you for being our TV Azor Ahai!
Look up Preston Jacobs or Hello Future Me. They both did rewrites for season 8. HFM is more narratively satisfying, while Jacobs goes for being more faithful to characters (legit got goose bumps whenever he had lines for Varys).
The ending may be more wholesome but yanno what? It's still logical and make complete sense which is ultimately what all of us wanted. Thanks so much for the time, care and passion you put into this.
the image of theon being the only one with plot armour is not only imapctful, but also fucking hilarious. i was in stitches every time theon tried to get killed and failed.
this is genuinely incredible. I'm completely blown away. David and Dan had 4 years to create what you've made. Sansa forgiving theon made me cry, so did Sandor hugging arya. varys sabotaging littlefinger is fucking genius. he was the main antagonist all along. you would've made seasons six, seven, and 8 the best seasons of tv ever. this is my ending.
I got full body chills when Daenerys return and Jon's rebirth????? This is fucking legendary writing and is officially my canon ending. D&D's season 8 was a fever dream and mass hallucination
@@DannySmith- the last season isn’t really that bad though compared to the rest of the show the last season is dog shit but just as something part of a show that’s not as good as game of thrones to me it’s not that bad also don’t let the last couple of seasons of this great show ruin it cause it’s still a great show
Dude it's rare that I sit through a 2h plus video, I believe you hit the nail on its head for this one, rewriting and logically ending such a complex story shows how much talent you have as a storyteller! Again Thank You for curing the massive headache that season 8 gave me.
I love what you did with Theon, got me tearing up. But at some parts where he’s mentioned cracks me up, he just can’t die! And I’m like, ‘Poor guy, couldn’t catch a break.’
My favorite part of your rewrite is fate completely refusing to let Theon die no matter how many life-threatening situations he throws himself into, so much so that his "bravery" earns him back the respect of the Ironborn there such a dramatic irony to that; he no longer want the honor of respect, he only longed for redemption by death, and yet he got it, and lived through it too
With some work, more or less making it more lore accurate and such, it’s pretty good. I think the most important thing is new beginnings, second chances. Really liked the Varys and littlefinger conversation. Both characters are kept as some of the smartest in the realm.
I avoided GoT cuz stories like them always feel like pain for pains sake, but this rewrite actually makes me want to consume the story more because there’s HOPE at the end of the pain!! So many people forget that a story of pain and sweat and tears SHOULD often end with hope. Because what was the point of all the pain otherwise. LOVELY rewrite that feels super satisfying and fits with things set up already
I teared up at several points listening through your re-write, maybe I'm just in an emotional mood, but omg what an awesome video! What got me was Dany on the Quiet Isle, drawing a comparison between herself and The Night King. Feeling empathy, or something tangential to it, for a capital "E" evil villain (The Night King), is not something I expected to feel watching a GoT rewrite, amazing work Uniquenameosaurus! And I love the optimistic ending. My new head cannon for sure 👍👍
Me too!! Some highlights being: The part about Theon leaving his kid because he wouldn’t allow himself to be happy Theon almost dying by dragon fire/Sansa wanting to sacrifice herself Dany letting herself be the mad queen while realizing she had no home to return to Every interaction between Tyrion and Jaime Dany creating her own home Arya and the hound hugging The whole ending with the black screen had me too
I'm very nitpicky with stuff and there were a few moments where I was like "eh, I don't really think [character] would act that way", but I was also very pleased with some of the twists that were laid out. Some of the ending seemed a little cheesy and too good to be true to me, but I do love the spirit of it and okay there were some details that made me tear up. All in all, not exactly a perfect ending, but one I would have been much happier with than the show's actual ending
I haven't watched GoT, but having a 2+ hour video to listen to while at work sounds nice. Thanks, Uniquenameosaurus. I'm already halfway through. Gotta say, I like that you're punishing characters for their actions. Getting your tongue cut out kills your ability to be yourself...
I wish I could mention all the things I love about this, but putting a hopeful, peaceful ending to Game of Thrones is something special. I love the imagery of the wall melting between Westeros and Dany’s new kingdom.
Legit got me tearing up many times throughout the video, not just due to how well you laid out all the hooks and twists, tying up the lose ends while staying true to the source material but also because how much your passion for writing shows in the quality of the video. That ending for Jaime and Tyrion was so fucking sweet and well deserved.
This is really very good. (A few things I would personally alter, but who doesn’t have their own headcanons?) the stand-off marriage between Jon and Dany, Theon’s thwarted attempts to die, and Jaime and Tyrion’s reconnection and self-actualization are stellar. This would have been a satisfying conclusion to the series. And of course, the Long Night being given appropriate weight. I like drawing a thematic parallel between Dany’s desire to go home and the Night King, and giving her an ultimate motivation to build a new home. Also no notes on the Littlefinger plotline, that was awesome
There’s a theory that it was actually Davos who resurrected Jon, and I recommend looking it up if you haven’t heard of it. Thoros tells Mel that he knelt beside Beric’s cold body and said the old words, not because he believed them, but because Beric was his friend. So you don’t have to be a red priest. You just need a friend. And Davos is a WAY better friend to Jon than Mel will ever be. I haven’t read the books, but at least based on the show, after Mel gives up on herself, Tormund, Edd and everyone else leaves, leaving Davos alone with Jon for a few silent moments before he leaves, too, and I think this is the moment that brings Jon back..
I can never be more thankful for the people that warned me about Season 7-8. I made sure to stop watching at the end of Season 6, so this is basically the real Game of Thrones ending for me. And I could never be more satisfied. Literally every character got the ending they deserved.
Ah, this is beautiful. The endings of Theon and Arya are beyond satisfying, it brought me to tears. I especially really like how you handled Jon and Daenerys's rocky relationship. Matter of fact, you handled all the relationships really well, and the finishing arcs, plots, and deaths were great. Thank you for giving me this closure.
I actually got chills when Jon resurrected his army. I could hear the music and felt my heart soar. Amazing storytelling! Also Theon's attempts to die is the saddest/funniest thing. It is a way better way of subverting expectations
What is dead may never die never felt anywhere near as justified. Arya and Theon in this version are just amazing. The change in Daenerys feels earned.
This was fucking fantastic. This was the perfect ending for it, I absolutely adored all of the stories endings. The part where Jon was recognized as Azor Ahai during the kings landing siege was brilliant, and definitely my favourite part. You just got a new subscriber!
The Littlefinger twist around 1:28:00 is perfection, and Arya's ending actually made me cry. I'd like to imagine that Varys plan for Daenerys & Jon to fall in love actually happens, but not in the way the show did it, in the way this video did it.
I just loved how suitably phyrric this ending is. Yes, we got a genuinely happy conclusion, but at a realistically brutal cost. Exactly what GOT is all about. And it’s open ended enough to allow hope that perhaps Jon and Dany may reignite their relationship and gives us hope that Westeros will become one unified continent at last. This is now head-canon for me. Best fan-fic ever.
Even if it doesn’t align with GRRM’s grimdark, the wholesome ending made me smile so much, this is my head canon. W video, as soon as I got to that 18 minute mark, I was hooked for the next two hours. Great rewrite my man! 👍
Pherphaps that would be the better twist, not to get a grimdark ending... Or you could just end it with something dark looming far in the dark north, or in the lands from beyond the west.
This has inspired me to pick up my own ending that I had thought of. It's far different from this using a lot more of the lore from the books. I won't go into it here because UA-cam comments aren't for that but your ending is far better than any other I've seen and I am glad it inspired me.
It’s god awful and not at all what George has been writing. It’s amazing so many people want a Disney story when George is trying to show the true nature and nuance of human beings in his grounded fantasy.
@@ItsSVO Honestly not too different from the New World nations our reality. If you want to GRRM it a bit you could show how her new nation is displacing many of the wildlings that don't want a new kingdom, and have her destroying an ancient woods to build her capital.
Way too happy. Daenerys taking down the wall after being exiled and some peace with the free folk mayve. Going into a thawing north maybe but doing into trade relations, hand/raven, and building the city is WAY too much.
@@ItsSVO TBH I do like how there's like a part where she parallels herself with the white walker, and takes kinda the "Vinland Saga" approach of instead of taking over kingdoms, building their own.
I feel like the writer's were terrified to change him in any way other than making him a "sad boi" he's way more sadistic in the books, but if not sadism, it'd be cool if they just cut off his tongue.
im literally on the verge of my seat. this was so good. love how you gave a good happy ending, but it felt deserved, it felt in character. this is the best rewrite i heard. amazing
Wow. This is stellar. You’ve managed to create the complexities I’ve always thought other alternate endings lacked, like the simplistic “Dany and Jon’s armies are overrun in the north everyone comes together in the south.” (Which is obviously still better than the mess D&D gave us) But the re-write of relationships is what stands out. Not ignored but also not the superficial *justifies a certain decision we made in the writers room* relationships. We can only hope George gives us something similar, if he ever gives us anything that is lol.
My favourite show ever finally gets a good ending, many many thank yous for this. Two points though: Jon letting someone just found a kingdom without it being ruled by the Iron Throne is a betrayal of his duty to his people; it feels like you forgot about Sansa at the end there. These two issues can be pretty easily solved without actually changing the story you wrote. With the warming of lands beyond the wall, we're basically establishing three hubs of power - King's Landing, Winterfell, and the Lands North. We also have, if we remember Sansa, three rulers with rightful claims: Jon, Dany, and Sansa. Sansa WANTS to play the game of thrones, she's good at it, and it wraps up her arc nicely if she is installed as Warden of the North, Dany as Warden of Even Norther, and Jon (or perhaps Jaime and Tyrion) as Warden of the South, and Jon as ruler of the Iron Throne, which restructures as an administrative body than a ruling one, forming a political triumvirate tied together by mutual familial loyalties as well as use of powers of the Raven, Dragons, and wide spy networks Sansa would install built off her myriad experiences. There would then be three cooperative powers, who are united by a single authority, thus permitting cooperative peace while also allowing for independence and the growth of a new nation. I am in effect suggesting to create both America and the UN at once.
Thanks for making this, I have a 3 hour drive tomorrow and I'm excited to listen to this on the way! I love your rewrites, but as a ASOIF nerd you have a lot to prove to impress me. Good luck!
I absolutely love these rewrites man, every time I watch them they captivate me oh so well. Its rare to find videos that are 2 hours long that keep me from clicking off even once, yet you manage to do it without fail. Thank you for making these.
Really loved this rewrite. All of the other rewrites I've watched often keep the "game of thrones" part and night king part separate. As if their two different climaxes to two different stories. I love that you were able to tie in the war of the dead into the game of thrones and make it seem natural.
I think it is more simple to think of the protection from fire as simply being a protection that Dany and Aegon/Jon has since the rebirth of magic and not something that is ad infinitum.
This is one of the best UA-cam videos I've ever seen. Made me cry several times. This is truly a masterpiece and I hope you all share it so other can experience it

In the books I assumed it was Daenerys’s “specialness” that kept her from burning, not her Targaryen blood, as proven by Viserys’s death, maybe having something to do with her likely connection to Azor Ahai. HOTD just had to go and show Viserys flexing his fireproof skin though, so idk
Two generally theories: unintentional blood magic or simply a recessive trait (which jon could also have). Looking at the official version it is clear something is making it so jon cant freeze to death because no way he could have made it back alone from the excursion north after being in a frozen lake.
I deeply loved the ending you gave with Sandor and Arya. It never made any sense to me why she would abandon her kill list when it had been such an integral part of her character. The ending you gave with her saying you're the last was chef's kiss :D Also, I enjoyed the rainbows and kittens ending that Dany gets instead. Much better in my opinion..... Also Jon actually being Azor Ahai was super dope. Thanks for lettin' freaking prophecy mean something....
honestly bro, i have rewatched this within the last couple days twice now just cause it is so well thought out and lovely.
Yeah, I'm not a fan of Tyrion being a secret Targaryen.
not necessarily, Jons real father was Rhaegar Targaryen but he grew up with ned as his father and arguably took after him more than his trueborn children (Robb and Arya betraying their word, bravery and command, etc). so it would offer an interesting parallel between Jon and Tyrion both inheriting their Targaryen traits whilst following in the footsteps of the men who raised them.
fuck me dude, you just consistently cook up these banger rewrites. The scene where Littlefinger looks over the dead with genuine fear on his face was just perfect.
Oh and just everything you did with Jaime, outstanding.
The Littlefinger part was absolutely brilliant! He got to play "the game" & even win... but such poetic justice in the end.
@@Audentior_Ito I like that Littlefinger got to play the game all the way to the end. He is, in a certain way, the main villain of the series, and directly responsible for starting pretty much everything that went down in the series. It was a shame they whacked him off so unceremoniously.
THE WAY JAIME TOLD THEM ABOUT HIM KILLING AERYS WAS PERFECT
With every re-write that comes out, its actually astounding how 99% of fan re-writes are miles better than what we got.
D&D really should have given the show over to the HotD showrunner, instead of rushing to the finish line.
HBO wanted more seasons, GRRM wanted more seasons the fans wanted more as long as it was good.
I don't think the HotD showrunners were even working on HotD back then
@@danculbert6349 They were working on the main show at that time, the showrunners even tried to talk to HBO about taking over the show since D&D were checking out, they said no, then Ryan Condell moved over to Amazon to work on a Conan series, that also didn`t make any substantial progress, and they got re-hired by HBO to make HoTD
@@qaztim11 well that's a bummer... Sure HBO regrets it now lol

@@samielsayed7445 would be insane and BASED AF
Did u watch Macabre Storytelling’s rewrites?
The ending may be more wholesome but yanno what?
It's still logical and make complete sense which is ultimately what all of us wanted.
Thanks so much for the time, care and passion you put into this.
the image of theon being the only one with plot armour is not only imapctful, but also fucking hilarious. i was in stitches every time theon tried to get killed and failed.
Particularly loved Arya’s psychological warfare against Cersei. Well done!!
this is genuinely incredible.
Imagine the cinematic brutality as he removes a sword from his own heart cased in fire while in extreme pain but also regenerating
I don't watch Game of Thrones, but I could listen to you rewrite it all day.
Same
Everything changed when the fire nation attacked
You should tho, at least the first 6 seasons

With how much people complained about the last seasons I'm inclined to not to.
And I’m like, ‘Poor guy, couldn’t catch a break.’
reminds me of reiner from aot 😂
@@vivvy_0 a bit like Kobeni too, the plot armor brings suffering for real
My favorite part of your rewrite is fate completely refusing to let Theon die no matter how many life-threatening situations he throws himself into, so much so that his "bravery" earns him back the respect of the Ironborn
there such a dramatic irony to that; he no longer want the honor of respect, he only longed for redemption by death, and yet he got it, and lived through it too
It might end up feeling a bit cheesy.. Tricky balance.
With some work, more or less making it more lore accurate and such, it’s pretty good. I think the most important thing is new beginnings, second chances.
Really liked the Varys and littlefinger conversation. Both characters are kept as some of the smartest in the realm.
'Tell me, did you ever get to think of where you'd run next, after you've made it to the top?' That line was so fuckin' strong.
I was legit on the verge of tears hearing the argument between Jaime and Tyrion.. it’s just so real. I can hear the actors in this scene.
Your line of Jamie to Tyrion after the final battle actually made me tear up.
You had me in tears multiple times. The Theon part with Sansa near the end killed me. Thank you for this story. It's amazing.
"Jesus, grandpa! Why'd you read me this for?!"
Me too!! Some highlights being:
The part about Theon leaving his kid because he wouldn’t allow himself to be happy
Theon almost dying by dragon fire/Sansa wanting to sacrifice herself
Dany letting herself be the mad queen while realizing she had no home to return to
Every interaction between Tyrion and Jaime
Dany creating her own home
Arya and the hound hugging
The whole ending with the black screen had me too
You’re in the thumbnail!!
@@kilgore1863 omg you’re right that’s crazy lmao
@@kilgore1863 Oh s***! lol no way; thanks Uniquenameosaurus! 😄😄😄
I hope it gets the vid some more clicks 👍
You are a brave man, rewrites of popular fiction, no matter how bad of an ending it may have, get strong reactions from people.
I can never be more thankful for the people that warned me about Season 7-8. I made sure to stop watching at the end of Season 6, so this is basically the real Game of Thrones ending for me. And I could never be more satisfied. Literally every character got the ending they deserved.
Oh you lucky bastard
@@colemacgrath2005 Indeed I am.
Me never having watched a single episode of GOT: hmmmmm interesting.
The chaos is a ladder call back had me shitting my pants 😭. Great work mate
This has inspired me to pick up my own ending that I had thought of. It's far different from this using a lot more of the lore from the books. I won't go into it here because UA-cam comments aren't for that but your ending is far better than any other I've seen and I am glad it inspired me.
"The cultures and traditions he grew up on are gone. Everyone who knew him or heard of him knows nothing of him now." Not gonna lie I cried.
Daenerys creating New Valyria is a great ending I never thought of.
I love how Tyrion not being able to speak is a huge improvement. If only he lost his tongue after season 4.
I feel like the writer's were terrified to change him in any way other than making him a "sad boi" he's way more sadistic in the books, but if not sadism, it'd be cool if they just cut off his tongue.
rip the wildlings that just wanted to live in the north and now got their lands taken by a dragon queen xD
im literally on the verge of my seat. this was so good. love how you gave a good happy ending, but it felt deserved, it felt in character. this is the best rewrite i heard.
amazing
Wow. This is stellar. You’ve managed to create the complexities I’ve always thought other alternate endings lacked, like the simplistic “Dany and Jon’s armies are overrun in the north everyone comes together in the south.” (Which is obviously still better than the mess D&D gave us)
But the re-write of relationships is what stands out. Not ignored but also not the superficial *justifies a certain decision we made in the writers room* relationships.
We can only hope George gives us something similar, if he ever gives us anything that is lol.
This ending was everything I wanted I felt my heart heal a little hearing "A Song of Ice and Fire" at the beautiful end, Thank You sincerely.
"a sweet song, a song of ice and fire..."

I absolutely love these rewrites man, every time I watch them they captivate me oh so well. Its rare to find videos that are 2 hours long that keep me from clicking off even once, yet you manage to do it without fail. Thank you for making these.
Theon whenever he's about to die: My time has come...
Universe: *saves him*
Theon: OH CMON!
You got me teary-eyed on some of these scenes. Your lines were amazing too.
I’ve literally been waiting on one of your rewrites

this was an absolute masterpiece. i could picture every detail perfectly. outstanding work
I loved this!! I think it'd be cool if instead of the John Worging into the dragon at the end of Bran do it, gives him more to do and puts more emphasis on the 3 eyed raven being able to keep the new kingdom in check!
He’s alive?!
Tyrion should never be a Targaryen. Him being a pure Lannister is perfect in a poetic sense.

theon is the definition of "suffering from success" in the long night battle loll
Finishing this video gave me such a release. Thank you so much
Love your Azhor Azai theory here, very clever, and insanely cool visual
I deeply loved the ending you gave with Sandor and Arya. It never made any sense to me why she would abandon her kill list when it had been such an integral part of her character. The ending you gave with her saying you're the last was chef's kiss :D
Also, I enjoyed the rainbows and kittens ending that Dany gets instead. Much better in my opinion.....
Also Jon actually being Azor Ahai was super dope. Thanks for lettin' freaking prophecy mean something....
OMG YOU DID I GOT CHILLS WITH YOUR EDIT!
honestly bro, i have rewatched this within the last couple days twice now just cause it is so well thought out and lovely.
