    I watched that Uruguay game in a state of amazement. My whole life I follow England because Canada never had a team. My whole life, England played a cautious hesitating (possibly boring) game. The number of times a ball carrier would turn and pass back without even an attempt at starting a rush, far exceeded the attempted rushes. And as the years passed, I just thought that's soccer no big deal. Now all of a sudden Canada is playing football like it's friggin' hockey or something. There is an attempted rush on most every possession, just like in hockey. And if the ball is turned over, who cares, just go get it back again. I can't believe how this team has come together out of just about nowhere.

    I love listening to Sid talking about the CMNT... And he's absolutely right about Ismael Kone... Once Kone fills out his muscle, he will have an imposing presence coupled with a terrific skill set in the midfield. Eustaquio is our General, but we need a driver, a guy who can move the ball from the defensive zone into the attacking third of the pitch, effortlessly... And Kone is the guy to become that dominant, imposing presence in the midfield... I can't wait to watch his game grow.

      until Kone coughs it up and they score. Dont mean to be harsh but that is part of Kones game and he has to fix it

    Sorry Sid, but I think that you are totally wrong about Jonathan David. Marsch totally complimented both his & Larin's defensive & overall game. If they did not play that style, Canada's defensive game would have had many more holes & Canada would not have gotten so far. Marsch's system also had those 2 running many miles. David has already proven that he is a goal scorer at Lille. However, he does need a good #10 to set him up through the middle. There was not nearly enough of that.
    Similarly Davies was terrific defensively & I think that is being underappreciated here. Yes, they have to find a way to increase the goals; but believe me, David & Davies will be in the thick of that strategy.
    You both gave accolades to Kevin Blue, which he totally deserves; but you didn't mention the great Friendlies that he arranged before the Copa vs The Netherlands & France. Nobody has ever done that before & it set the table for the team's success at the Copa. I think that having the Friendlies vs the U.S. & Mexico in September is excellent too. Let's get more matches at home for a change. Especially vs the U.S., who always have homefield advantage.
    Finally, I loved every minute of watching most of our B team start & outplay Uruguay's A squad; but let's be realistic. How many times have we seen a full Team Canada All Star hockey team lose to lesser teams after they lost out on a shot at the gold & had to settle for the Bronze game? No matter how hard they try, they just can't often get up properly for those kinds of games. I'm quite sure it was the same for Uruguay & especially after all of the depressing bad press & the threat of suspensions because of their idiotic behaviour in the previous game, when they went to fight with fans in the stands.
    While it was great to watch, I would be very hesitant to read too much into how that match played out for Canada.

    Hi guys - only two players scored more goals than Jonathan David in the Copa America: L Martinez from Argentina (5) and S Rondon from Venezuela (3}

    Davies playing in attack gets us the WC issue where he takes on more than he should and then it doesn't lead anywhere. Sid is wrong there. Davies is a LB by trade and should remain so.

  • @jb1934
    @jb1934 Місяць тому +2

    Davies is left back, that's just not a high impact position in terms of altering a game. And then to come onto a national team of somewhat lesser talent and make an outsize difference is also not easy. For a number of years I believe Lewandoski was one of the top forwards in the game, but playing with Poland he could never really change their fortunes. If there's going to be a face of this team, and it's not Kone, it's likely not going to be David or Schaffelburg either. But it probably doesn't need to be Davies.

    • @benjaminarends8964
      @benjaminarends8964 Місяць тому

      so to your point, even having the best striker in the world cannot help your team unless it has supporting players. We have a world class LB, we are behind Poland then.

    David's issue is the deployment. Larin-David worked in the past, it doesn't work anymore. a 3-man MF with David up top alone is the way to go.

    Bombito has come out of the woodwork. Shaff has come out as an explosive player. David and Larin have been exposed to an extent that they are not matured finishers. Davies is best leading from the rear. Osorio derseves to start based on his passing ability. Ugbo needs to get over his personal issues. David Choinière deserves minutes. Kone is class until he isn't and he has to mature. Crepeau is our keeper for the next 20 years. I could go on but 2026 is coming fast and we better be ready. Please get us one group stage win and our nation will hear it.
