  • Updates on the 10GHz Microwave Source project.
    The sampler is working great, the frequency trippler has moderate performance.
    Now we need to design the 3.333GHz VCO, the PLL phase-detector and the reference oscillator.
    See the explanation how the sampler works:

    And here I was thinking I had to pay for 4 layer impedance control PCBs to do RF. This guy does it with toner transfer! Love this channel ❤️

    Gregory , you are killing me by your very high level of professionality on all aspect of EE although you are not in this profession as you said to me earlier ... I just wonder why could not you work for RF telecom production companies with all these skills ?? ... For me , an engineering certificate is meaningless after watching you ...

    When I did my translation loops, I went on ebay to buy a piece of "for parts, not working" network or spectrum analyzer or uwave synthesizer for the sampler. I never thought of one could actually made one at home. I will try that following your approach. Joining your Patreon.

    Beatuiful.
    How do you design your microstrip filters? I like to use QUCS however it can be a bit tricky at times since it can't show you how the design is supposed to look.
    It is coming together nicely.
    The VNA is really beatiful, the 7 segment LED displays are an interesting contrast to the green CRT.

    Hello Gregory! Very good lessons about frequency! Thank you for sharing so much information. I'm trying to build a frequency divider that could be used to measure a GHz signal with a 100MHz osciloscope. I've been tinkering with some circuits using decade counters, flip-flops, but they all fail to bring a GHz signal down because they are mostly intented for 1MHz to 60MHz frequencies. Do you know what is the best way to achieve this?

    • @AllElectronicsChannel
      @AllElectronicsChannel  Рік тому

      Hi Cesar, frequency dividers for GHz frequencies are called prescalers, make a search on google.

      Hahahaha it may interfere a bit.. you need position the things with care to reduce. In this case the balanced design helps a lot to cancel some leakages

    HI! this is a beautiful project. I would be interested in reproducing the sampler to lock my HP 86290C. Do you think that as it is it can work decently up to 6GHz? I would like to have a diagram, or at least the abbreviation of the balun you used. Thank you so much for your kindness!

    • @AllElectronicsChannel
      @AllElectronicsChannel  2 місяці тому

      Yes, absolutely think would be possible. I'm traveling and don't have access to the diagram right now. The balun man, is probably a network balun, I bought from surplus. So.. Conclusions is: try it, iterate.. Don't lose much time thinking about parts, you will also learn a lot on the process. Greg.

      I'm almot always using two signal generators and 1 spectrum analyzer. Two power supplies at least. And take a look at the noise generated by LED lights, sometimes I need to turn off my LED panels to make measurements.

    • @AllElectronicsChannel
      @AllElectronicsChannel  2 роки тому +1

      The proper way would be using a 10ghz VNA.. nevertheless is difficult to test this is circuit, because you need to place conectors and test prints that would change the behavior of the circuit

      I don't have a specific seller. Actually I remember the seller of the SRD, is TILICHIP.
      Some sellers send fake parts, so I aways buy from more than one. PIN diodes where always good, the SRD also.
      BAT15-099 Bridge I got good, I think there is only one seller of them in aliexpress.
      One that is difficult is BAT15-03W, I have bought 2 or 3 times from different sellers and always got fake parts

    The tripler looks like it uses BFP620 transistors.
    What sampling diodes are you using? Are they a pair of BAT15?
    It is impressive how much performance you have from designs that look so simple, on FR-4! Like the Tektronix S-4 and S-6 from the late 1960s and early 1970s!

    How to work with such a high frequencies? 1 pF capacitor has impedance 15 Ohm, 2.5nH inductor (1mm length of 1mm diameter wire) has impedance 18 Ohm... Any millimeter of wire can leads to parasitic oscillation in an amplifier.... I made only FM transmitter 100MHz, and 5mm of wire increase SWR. But what we will have in 10GHz? Any micrometer influences on SWR in a cable?
