Always remember you’re not the only one. Almost every top athlete in every sport by the time they hit 40 years old they’ve battled a multiple set of personal injuries. Some that took them out for 3 month, 8 months, and sometimes 2 years. But almost EVERY top athlete has to cope with a chronic condition they have from a previous injury. Almost every top athlete go 5-15 years with some stupid thing that never goes away and they persevere! I tore a ligament in my knee playing soccer when I was 19 and till today at 23 i have to deal with it. Every time I play soccer there’s certain movements I can’t do or my knee will give out and take me out for 2 weeks. I never give up. Not because I’m crazy head strong or whatever, but because I see many pro athletes like Kobe, Dwayne wade, Derrick Rose all triumph and win even after their knee’s are so heavily worn
i’m a high school gymnast and I just got told I will be out my entire season and I need surgery. it’s the week before our first competition and i am in so much physical pain i can barely walk nor tumble. i feel like a failure, weak because my body can’t go any longer. i finally took myself to the doctor and i have a broken bone in my ankle and a torn ligament. it’s my junior year and i’m devastated. i worked so hard in the off season so i didn’t miss out over another injury like last year, and here it is happening again. i’m having surgery to reconstruct my ankle and i’m so scared and upset. dealing w the mental aspect has been the worst. i hope i can get stronger for my senior year at least.
i’m also in a very similar position, i missed out several important competitions last year due to injuries and this summer i tried to catch up. i got injured again and also some other previous injuries have been bothering me a lot. the mental aspect is the hardest as you’ve mentioned. i feel like i’ve fallen behind way too much. im going to be a junior this year and i also hope i can recover fully by senior year. i believe in both of us! we can push through so we shouldn’t give up. not sure if you’ll see this comment though lol
I’m 18 and haven’t managed to complete a full football season for the past 5 years due to a multitude of different injuries mainly in my knee. I still play at a very good level and managed to complete 53 games the season before last (still missing 2 months of the season). I resonate with what this man is saying, taking it too hard in rehab, and constant re-injuring myself. I hope that now as I’ve matured I’ll be able to take my rehab easier and manage to stay injury free for the rest of my career.
I had the same exact injury and I am trying to get into contact with the head coach at Michigan. I am also a wrestler and I feel like he could give insight into what to do. This is super helpful.
i has shoulder surgery this morning after years of shoulder problems and a torn rotator cuff and i’m currently struggling harder than ever to find the strength to keep pushing
before football season started (sophomore year in high school) i partially tore my MCL. I was out until week 7. Those were the most rough 7 weeks of my life. Yes, i’m only 15 but trust me I don’t think i’ve ever felt any worse mentally and physically. But finally, today I played my first game in forever. Unfortunately, I ended up fracturing my heel. I’m so upset right now, words can’t explain.I worked harder than anyone on my team the previous offseason, and i know i did. All to play only 1 of 10 games in the season. Idk what to do i feel so. Idk Stuck? yeah
Heretopissyou off I play Varsity Basketball,Football,Hockey and I was a national 17u soccer player. I got hit with the injury bug early in high school, started hurting my calf every game of every sport plus concussions adding up lead to tearing my mcl in my first game back after a season off due to a torn calf, I came back for the last two games first game back in basketball I get fouled and cut my head a quarter inch deep across my whole head. 51 stitches I recently started playing hockey a lot more and I fractured my wrist, first game back sprained the other wrist, then next game back I got a concussion. Just played my first game in playoffs after a month off got a concussion first play, kid hit me over the head with his stick for no reason. I am 17 with offers to play soccer in Brazil and Greece and now I can’t even run again or face serious brain issues, I have post concussion syndrome now and have to do mental rehabilitation (it’s a real thing) but I learned the best thing to do is surround yourself with friends and family... don’t think you aren’t enough because you aren’t like you used to be and don’t rush yourself back into anything for anyone. Take it slow, an extra week or two or month off is better than your whole life. Hope you guys stay strong and have a good year !
I get you. Same with me. Im sophomore also and season just started when I strained my quad pretty badly i was out for 3 weeks and when I came back the same thing happend again, eventually i started too early. This second time I really did a good recovery and I knew my quad was fully healed. On my first match after injury I got injured again, I sprained my ankle. Fracture of ligaments. Now Im recoverying, its been about 3 weeks now and I hope Ill be back on field soon. Its really frustrating but its essential to stay positive and not get into depression.
I’m replying a year after this comment I know. But it happens to the best of us buddy. God tests those he loves the most. It’s about persistence. You’re working harder than your team and you got injured again. You’re young. Show em that nothing will stop you. Sometimes times away from training like this is for the better. It makes you hungrier to get that win forever.

Recovering from acl reconstruction, I though I will feel normal again had high expectations from the surgery but no, my doctor didn't addressed patella cartilage damage which was clearly spotted on operation table and now I am limited by it and just was before the surgery, can't squat, can't run, can't gain muscles without them, feeling so depressed, can't afford another surgery now oh god why me?

Searched for information about how to deal with being injured and came upon this video. Funny enough this is my exact situation… just fell short of the Olympics, had a torn labrum, and was told that I’ll be out for at least 6 months. I’m 1 week post-op today and my mental status is not great. How did you eventually accept your injury?
In my first game as QB for my high school I help lead my team to a 38-7 win. The next game I only played 9 snaps until I did a qb run and broke my collarbone too. I had to leave the game within just 3 mins into the game. It sucks knowing I can't workout or play the sport I love. But I have to get through it. Still got another month till it fully heals.
The doctors told me I might have a labrum tear and could be out for the rest of my senior year of wrestling. I feel as if I'm failing at what I want to do and can do nothing to change it.
I tore my labrum in the 3rd to last game of my senior year of football and I continued to play as soon as I dislocated my shoulder in the beginning of the first quarter and I was able to play the next two weeks in constant pain, not able to do what my body was originally capable of. Fast forward to today, I am 4 1/2 weeks post labrum repair surgery. I had to skip my senior year of basketball and I won’t be able to participate in track this year as well. It really sucks a lot, I think about sports everyday.
