    3:03 In Australia 🇦🇺 There are lots of great railways to travel on. There’s the ZIG ZAG Railway here in NWS, The Puffing Billy Railway in Victoria, There’s the NSW Rail Museum in Thirlmere and there’s the Coffeepot in South Australia’s Little Rangers.

    3:17 There’s also Australia’s very own private Railway, and we’ll also catch the old Gan to Alice Springs.

    the steepest grade in Australia is actually 1 in 16 on the west coast railway in Tasmania, not 1 in 25 or whatever it was

      I think he was referring to the steepest part of the Zig Zag Railway.

      He means Steepest adhesion worked grade in Australia at Richmond Vale. The West Coast Wilderness Railway in Tasmania uses Abt rack system to get up the 1 in 16 grade

      At the time this was filmed, it was, if remember correctly, the steepest section of railway line *active.* The ABT railway was still closed at this time, but once the ABT reopened, then it became the steepest.

    Why dose the tank engine have a tender

      Some tank engines that used to run in the darling harbor goods line where modified to become tender engines to become more efficient.
      I believe that the engine in this film was one of them.

      extra water since all the water stops have been removed

    • @Steamtostay
      @Steamtostay 3 роки тому

      If you're referring to 3112 at the start - additional water to increase its range between refills, sort of the same idea as when flying scotsman ran with two tenders in early preservation.

    • @flamingfrancis
      @flamingfrancis 3 роки тому

      @@Steamtostay The Pommies tried some real innovation with the Scotsman. To cut down on taking water from tanker(s) they built troughs in between the tracks on a section or two. A scoop would channel up the water into the tanker.
