  • North of Narvik lies a lake which was used as an frozen airfield during WWII. Some of the Junkers 52 transport airplanes that landed here sunk in this lake as the ice melted.
While several planes were salvaged one lies very easily accessible near the eastern shore of the lake in a depth of only a few meters.

I wonder if this 52 was one of the planes carrying mountain troops to Narvik , to bail out German paratroopers there, or was it one of the planes bearing the paratroopers? Maybe a plane used to drop supplies to the paratroopers? Are there any suspected remains on board? If so, is this a war grave?
Always liked the huge windshield on this plane. It gave the cockpit a very majestic appearance. Great job, boys. Keep these videos going. Respect from USA

Great video! And what incredible vis, definitely a bit envious of that dive. The aircraft is in good condition all things considered?

Nice video well done. I am going to Narvik in the next few weeks. Can you give me some directions or link how to find this dive site? Depth is 8-9 meters? Where to park the car. Really appreciate thank you

The exact position is N68°33.252 E17°42.118. You can see the wreck even on the satelite image on norgeskart:
      norgeskart.no/#!?project=norgeskart&layers=1003&zoom=16&lat=7607082.98&lon=610357.81&markerLat=7607074.7161865225&markerLon=610218.8093261719&panel=searchOptionsPanel&sok=Gaupanj%C3%A1rga
It is possible to park at the little creek east of the wreck - depends on the weather (and on your car) how far you can go. You have to swim (or walk) the rest in the creek.

BTW - it is really a nice place for freediving. It is rather shallow, mostly clear water and close to shore. When I was there in August I met two freedivers from Finnland.

In summer it was between 12 and 14°C, I guess it is much colder in winter and in spring, when the ice on the mountains is melting

Looks like someone salvaged stuff from this plane by himself.

Or a fire got it on the way down, and the rest was lost upon impact.

    • @UnderwaterNerd

I am not aware of any plans to salvage this plane. Last year some divers found another one in the same lake. I know in the past two of them have been recovered
