    The Arabic is purposely not connected and it’s also going backwards. The only explanation I can come up with is because it’s directed by Virgil Abloh who is a popular fashion designer and you know they’re into weird shit like that

    Xanny is Xanax, an anti-depressant Benzodiazepene that's pretty damn addictive. It's the new hype beast drug together with Percocet, Oxycontin, Codeine and all that.
    That's also the reason for the cheap looking video edits and the overall video and lighting quality, it represents the zoned out, nearly psychedelic mood of rolling on these kinds of drugs. It's not meant to look like professional and high budget production (although it probably is just that) but it's supposed to show the world through the eyes of him, or more generally, how the world looks when you're high. At least that's what I associate it with.
    The lyrics are whole different topic to me, but what I know inspired the song is his break-up with his former girlfriend Brittany, and I'd speculate that in his lyrics he wants to show the difference between his Tour Life with the fast cars, stacking bands and fucking random groupies and his Love Life at home, together with all its depressions, suicidal thoughts and betrayal (perhaps that's what he means with "all my friends are dead").
    Maybe the whole deal makes a bit more sense now, these are all just theories I thought of when I listened to the song and, just like you, didn't understand his quick change of topics in his lyrics.

      Great explanation of the lyrics. You made some connections i haven't been able to make yet. I believe the "all my friends are dead, push me to the edge" could be a play on the imagery of throwing money in the strip club (ie dead presidents)

    • @saudigz
      @saudigz 6 років тому +12

      Clément Lauret it also means Uzi’s real friends are actually dead. He has talked about some of his friends that died. “Chico looking down at me with his momma”. So it’s a double meaning.

    People were saying that the changing of topics on the lyrics is to represent his state of mind, he's having suicidal tendencies. I feel its a stretch personally. Btw Xannys are Xanax... so drugs that are depressants and can numb you. The hands signs were "XO" the label that Abel "The Weeknd" leads. Lil Uzi Vert went on tour with him earlier.

    I don't know why it took me this long, but this video made me realise the lyrics are actually better than I thought. I tought the lines about money were just random bragging lines, but now I see how they connect to the story. Basically he wanted to get money to please himself and her, but the money and the fame ended up harming their relationship and himself.

    I like that you tried to understand it a bit. Mumble rap( in general pretty much) isn't supposed to make sense lyrically. It's more about the energy and the sound (musically). Some rappers choose to put some meaning to it but it isn't always suppose to make sense so this was a completely normal and logical reaction from anyone listening for the lyrics. Keep up the good work man 👍

    Basically the song is about a break up with his girlfriend - Britanny. The "all my friends are dead" part references dead presidents (money) is his only friend now she is gone. Most of the first verse is about this - "xanny make it go away" (using anti-depressants) to make the pain of the break up go away. However the second verse doesn't at all really match the theme. So yeah that's what the song is about.

      Sean Holtzkamp you are part of the problem with the shit music going on nowadays. Its good to have the fun and crazy shit, but trying to find a meaning behind a song is part of the experience. Looking into every detail is something we have to do, in order to get the art that the artist has made. It also teaches us how the artist feels at the time/moment. This song is a rollercoaster. It goes from being a "casanova" to being a emotional wreck.

    i still stand by the theory that “all my friends are dead” is referring to money (dead presidents=money). the only friends he has are the stacks of money. he has nothing to live for but money and materialism. hes suicidal because his life has no meaning anymore. its a commentary on the materialism of rap culture, hence the back and forth between talking about money and wealth and suicidal thoughts.
    OR im just giving him way to much credit either way its a fun song.
    p.s. xanny means xanax, the opioid drug.

    I think this song talks about being famous and rich, all my friends are dead , dead = dead presidents= money. It's like i don't have real friends because i'm famous , and also the drugs references of xanax (that was the drug for 2017) , and also lil uzi likes "dark" stuff like demonic topics and aesthetic like the 666, upside down cross and all that. I really like this song cause show the otherside of be famouse , his flows are cool and it's very catchy imo. And also i like that he is taken the 666 and that topics haha some people talk about devil workship but like i love bands like slayer and i know i little about the art in dark stuff and it's cool to see it in rap too.

    Haven't even watched the video yet but since you've done a lot of trap-bangers lately I'd love some more lyrical stuff (not to sound elitistic - I love me some bangers). Since you like Kendrick, "u" could be a nice one (the video is called God is Gangsta fyi), Brenda's got a baby by Tupac Shakur is a must listen and also has a good video. Problem is many legendary old-school tracks don't have videos (at least not very good), but Life's a Bitch by Nas and "Uncommon Valor: A Vietnam Story" by Jedi Mind Tricks are also must-listens!
    Edit: to clarify, "Trap" is a sub-genre of Hip-hop which includes songs like this one, Bad and Boujee and even Humble. It's kinda hard to explain if your not familiar with the genre but it's basically a type of hiphop which utilizes a lot of 808's (sub-base) and much more. You can spot it pretty easily by looking for ad-libs (basically the shouting of words etc. in the background).

    this guy has so many questions about why this why that, it's art bruh. that's it. it's a young 20 year old kid who just came into a ton of money and is basically just having fun. you don't have to think too hard about it lol

    • @nurotikk3560
      @nurotikk3560 6 років тому +8

      Well your name precedes you. There's no such thing as anti art because art is in the eye of the beholder my friend. Also lil uzi vert gets paid 100 grand for each show he does as well as was given a million dollar advance for his recent album from his record label. If this isn't a fuck load of money to have for a 20 something year old then idk what is. Lastly, you're biased dislike for millenials speaks to a naivete, every generation that has ever existed has done things or made progressions that the older generation show vehement hatred for. When 80's hair metal came out, the hippies thought it was simple trash and more about the look than the music, the 80's hair metal guys then hated the 90's grundge saying it was too "emotional" and depressing, the 90's grunge guys then hated on rap saying it was idiotic and again simplistic and didn't have depth to it. Now old rap hates new rap. It's a never ending cycle that continues on. I at one point in time did not listen to ANY rap, or pop music because I thought it was retarded in every way. HOWEVER, I had a self realization one day that I was needlessly limiting myself because of an unspoken bias within myself that I didn't even realize I had until I genuinely took an honest look inside myself. From that moment on I've judged music purely on how it makes me FEEL. If I like the way it SOUNDS, then it's good to me. I realized I didn't need to over intellectualize music, because at its core, none of it really makes any sense, from love songs, to depressing sad break up songs, to hype drug songs, to intricate lyrical masterpieces, what did they all have in common? They create a feeling inside you. There's deffinetly good and bad within it all, or I should say, my PERSONAL preferences, but if something sounds good to me. I enjoy it for what it is, and don't question it any further. After all music is meant to create enjoyment. When you start picking apart things that you KNOW are catchy and can't get out of your head, you're just depriving yourself of some joy. I may not think a pop song is the greatest masterpiece of music to have ever hit my ears, but if i can glean SOME enjoyment from it, I take that enjoyment and move on with my life, rather than build a hatred for something that does me no good at the end of the day. That being said I love the young rappers coming out because they capture a vibe and a feeling no music has captured before. And for that, I enjoy it, and love lil uzi vert and all the others for their contributions to the musical world. The progression of music is one of the most intriguing things to me, and trap music is no different, it's a new and different progression from anything anyone ever heard even 5 years ago, and that to me is interesting.

But he feels like he can't because he has such a large following, "I cannot die because this my universe." He's built a cult following, his own universe.

    "All my friends are dead" is refering to the faces on dollar bills. It seems like hes changing the subject between showing off his money, and his negative mental state, but hes trying to show how the two are related. He lost his one girl, "brittany", because the famous party lifestyle led him to do some dumb shit, now he's discovering that fame and fortune are not the key to happiness.

      @wozing 6 років тому +7

      For future reference, you don't wanna say something like "migos" pronounced "migos", even if you do clarify afterward.
      A better iteration would be Migos, /mē-ɡōs/, or something like that to actually demonstrate the vowel pronunciation. I understand you said "as in 'amigos'", but the focus is on the redundancy of the first part.
