He would grown, walk around, pant, lick my hand, sometimes even growl, and stare at my every movement to see if I was OK. Dogs... they pay attention to us in ways that we don't come close to understanding.

Dan perfectly explains what I love about going to baseball games. Just hanging out, watching a slow and relaxing game (pre pitch clock), drinking beers and eating overpriced ballpark food. And that 1st beer always goes down so fast

If you're a comic AND you've been abusing substances for 25 years, there's definitely some unresolved childhood trauma going on. Usually when they quit, the person will then transfer the addiction to a different substance…because the trauma is still there & you still need a way to check out to not think about it. Glad to hear that he is in therapy....that's supposed to be the answer. Being a perpetual 15 year old with arrested development (hello video game obsession) can be endearing in a way in your 20s & 30s, but in your 40s & beyond it just becomes sad if you don’t get a handle on it.
Quitting the green is life changing - I think the pendulum has gone too far the other way. It is not the worst drug in the world, but it is not harmless.
