I will say this while being the first to comment. Derek, you are on your way to becoming a legend in your own right. As a matter of fact, in my mind you already are. Ever since I discovered you by watching your videos on UA-cam a year in a half ago, You have inspired me everyday since. Keep up the great work, continue to inspire many more generations to come, and I am so proud to call you my friend. YOU ROCK!!!!! - Sam Levine
Wow. Came here after watching a few Lucy (from The Piano on Channel 4) videos. She's great for her age, but Derek is not just on another level, he's in the penthouse.
This brought me to tears, yet again. A wonderful reboot of the original documentary, In the Key of Genius that shows how much Derek has progressed in his present state. Derek, you are my role model and my hero. Thank you for your music and thank you for being you. We are all fortunate to have you in the world.
It’s really a miracle that being a premie didn’t affect his small motor abilities . My son was a 23 week premie, and although he can sing and whistle perfectly in tune, he has very low tone in his fingers. I was a piano teacher, and when I tried to teach him, his fingers would just collapse, and he couldn’t play.
You are a miracle Derek. Quite literally. I wish you as much happiness as you put into the hearts of everyone listening to you. You are an amazing person and quite sure one of the best piano players and musicians this world will ever bring to light. Thank you!
Derek are so lucky to have so many lovering friends around him. Every time when I feel sad I watch this video. I feel so much positives again. Thank you Derek 👏👏👏👏
Hello from NYC, Derek! I think you are truly incredible. I could hear you play for hours! I hope that in the future, you become more well known here in the US. Dr. Adam, you are truly a patient and wonderful man. God bless you both! Much regards and Happy Christmas!
I love your style ! The way u flow from boogie to jazz to flourishing chromatic arpeggios and u always find your way back to the melody so seamlessly and effortlessly .. Your musical style is bold and showy and beautiful , thanks, great video!
Hello Derek (and friends) I recently saw a documentary on you and was extremely amazed with your musical gift and endearing personality. After watching it I spent a couple of hours searching for more footage of you playing and different tellings of your story. I see that you sometimes take requests online. I was wondering if you would play Norman Blake's "The Old Brown Case," the version on "Fields of November." It is on UA-cam.
I almost feinted when I realized that he was playing Happy at the end! It gives me that amazingly distinct warm fuzz whenever I hear him play :) I'd love to listen to him one day and watch the smile of his face as the other musicians join in! :D
Astonishing. Absolutely astonishing. I've seen many videos of Derek playing, but sadly a lot of them have been a bit... forced, contrived, in the way he's been presented, but this was far more intimate, and seeing him with the band and then with Joolz was a huge bonus.
Derek hearing your playing makes me feel alive , becasue you add that personal touch to it appsolutely amazing ,thank you Derek this is a beautiful piece by led Zepplin "Bron-Yr-Aur" i still listen today.peace
Such an amazing performace by such a versatile pianist despite hid blindness. Its a blessing from God. His ability to play music from all the different periods is great. I have thoroughly enjoyed this video. Thanks for the presentation. God bless.❤❤❤❤
I had to stop right there: 10:03 ''You sound like you'' Biggest compliment you can give to a musician, just as I am watching this video curious and wondering how Derek went on. (and I know this video is 6 years old). He's just gone exponentially better hasn't he. Not only smooth but inspired. Amazing to watch, as always.
Great playing as always! Could you play some Cory Henry solos or Jacob Collier covers? In a very different group of music, how would find playing Rachmaninoff or Liszt?
His unique flair and style is evident and amazing. I'm curious, can he transpose at will as well, or does he only able to play the song as he hears it?
Oxygen causing blindness in newborns was a problem in the early incubators of the 1950's. How could anyone be so ignorant in the 1970's when he was born?
j4mie g because my aunt is on my dads side and my uncle isn’t really related to me and then his brothers son is derek, also because you never really call your aunts husbands brother an uncle,
@@yt5957 Makes sense. I was related in the same way to a certain well-known actress, because my sister was married to her uncle. (I won't divulge her name -- too personally identifying, lol.) Unfortunately, divorce severed my familial tie to her. I never did get to meet her.
I would like Derek even if he was not autistic and blind his musical genius is his calling card. While the natural world may have taken his sight and his mind. Lord blessed him with a musical gift for real. Him and Kodi Lee are both musical savants! I bet you there's never a dull moment with Derek!
Would he be able to play Rondeau fantastique (Opus 5 no. 2) from Liszt? As it is known to be one of the hardest technical songs in existence, being called unplayable by top pianists.
Is he interested in other instruments? Would like to see him introduced to a string instrument. Also I was wondering how sensitive he is to an outta tune strings
This is just one way that God demonstrates His great gift of musical creativity and unbelievable talent. Understanding this man's ability to play (considering his great challenges) is just as difficult as understanding God's existence. Just as scientists cannot explain animal instincts, they cannot explain this man's abilities.
+Derek Paravicini This is amazing!!! Hey, maybe this is an odd thing to point out, but I can't help but notice I didn't find much of Derek playing a piece of music in different styles. Like... What he did in his requests video and Christmas requests video. I love how effortless it is for him! :3 Thanks. (this is dominics brother, btw. I go by the name "Joey" as my online persona/ name, whatever you call it.)

Music and maths is a universal language
Music is not. Whole art is not universal. While every creature in the world follows math it doesnt enjoy art.

Love to see him on a pipe organ! A real one. Maybe playing his own take on Toccata and Fugue in D minor.
Very good music
I'd love to hear Derek play some chopin or maybe "misty".
Seriously though, Chopin please!!! I'd actually but an album of Chopin performed by Derek.

Hello! Yes Derek can transpose anything he knows into any key, instantly!

Вспомните Короленко... "Слепой музыкант "! Музыка умеет объединять людей с любыми отклонениями!
Derek, could you please play the Koln Concert part IIc by Keith Jarrett? That would be great. Thank you very much!!!
The outro song sounded familiar, it’s happy by pharell!

It’s 2023 right now but ALL the clips are posted 7 to 10 years old. Is Derek still alive ?
