Unreal club and crowd! Raved all around for the trance scene back in the day. Went to almost every gods night from late 2007, by far the best club, so many epic memories being here ❤

Could not agree with you more glad I'm not the only one who hears music much like every thing else in the world going straight to shit cuz the main stream shit sound damn near monotone vocals ffs why can't we get back to this era of music and at very least let us have that plz world where everything is overhyped and shit quality continues to let us down again and again. Trance ever since the 90's has been that 1 consistent thing that was good in life and now my favorite episodes of ASOT are the ones with the most classic tracks or reworks remixes etc of the tracks from this era I mean 2008 was HUGE! Why go away from that sound when it was so successful and so cherished and loved by the ASOT community and fans why go mainstream David guetta fkn ruined EDM lol bet it's true too cuz I've been live thinking ok well maybe it's just a nostalgia factor but in 2011 that was a sleepy ass yr the stuff puts ya to sleep save a few tracks. But "this is what it feels like" no it feels nothing like that and a lot more like this. So why go and change it there's maybe one new song every few mos or less that's on par with this quality and they're made by producers who've stayed true and are somehow less known then the W&W or abstract vision and shit deadmau5 last album was a bad NIN sounding mess with 2-3 good songs 4-5 if they're decent
Not worth a buy that's for sure. But all the ASOT year mixes are epic so there's that but I'm getting bored of the sound that 2011 evolved into 2012-14 & hopefully now we're starting to see a change like waves I notice that trance gets real good then like the rising and falling itself as a genre acts like the songs do with build ups and bass drops over the yrs it seems to peak about 08 builds up started getting better in 2005 even better in 06 better then that in 08 and then 09 sustain and 2010 starts the release its like its got ADSR within the time as it does with so many synths do throughout each song. I hope that's making sense lol.
But if I'm right & it sounds like it cuz each year is comparable to its counterpart from a decade ago, for example 2014=2004 and 2005 is to 2015 so if I'm right about this & (I've been reading between the lines it seems producers & the Djs are aware of this cuz I pointed it out & they tell me to ride the waves & always retweet this theory or fav it they agree which makes me think they do so on purpose.) why? Idk, my guess is cuz we need bad music to make $ for one to keep it going for the radio crowd Pop mainstream that like that sound they discover real music mixed in & either bite on or don't but that's neither here or there.
The main reason aside from profit to keep the show going is if it were always at its best we would grow tired of that sound and be bitching about that instead lol. So by contrast we need the good the bad and the ugly. To give us perspective so the bad makes the good sound better & the ugly finances it all. It's like if we were to do ecstasy every single event every radio show etc practically every day or week it looses its magic. Trance is a drug lol so the Djs and producers are giving us a tolerance then tapering us slowly parashute down then they become mad scientist again between the 06-10 yrs every decade 2015-2020 they're cooking up the best possible cleanest drug for us whil we have lost our tolerance to that sound and now appreciate and love it so much more. But they have been getting pretty desperate lot of classics being remade to spice the shows up that become redundant hearing same 10-20songs each week aka played out is to burnt out what music is to drugs and how good bad they sound feel there that sums it all up who tf is gonna read this even lmao. Smh but that is my 2 cents from experience and observation of the scene for 20yrs+ like E also got very bad in 2011 too all the dirty adulterated bs. Now it's starting to come back I frequently check the sites cuz I miss doing it can not find any and am too afraid to do so got more important things in life now bitter sweet sadness. But I like to provide harm reduction for the inexperienced and socialize & just see what crazy shit people are ignorantly inhesting as a direct effect or caused by the federal law and prohibition of substances ALWAYS MAKES IT MORE DANGEROUS HEAR THAT NSA OR IS THAT UR GOAL FFS! If idk it were legal we would have a problem cuz it's not the type a thing ya can do every day it stops feeling good so smart people wait long times between use. Dumb people find out the hard way go through a phase then quit on the down swing. It's way less harmful or dangerous than 99% of legal drugs including otc ffs same as shrooms and weed harmless tylonal killed more people then these 3 combine they don't tell ya that when they say all these deaths were caused by this drug or that. It's such bull shit propaganda same with DMT wtf is that illegal ya can't die from it we need it to live we all possess it and make it its in more loving things then not & we are on every night when we sleep. So fuck the drug war & let us have a time machine where we can go back to the good days and just slow it down pause it stop time and savior that moment till satisfied I wish but we live In the days of the sane being called insane and the insane is actually rational right is wrong n vice versa. I love Armins music new and old but I feel his style was so much better at this time compared to today. I feel like now a days too many DJ's are tying to appeal to the mass crowd...the people who didn't really listen to this music but are only doing so because it is becoming popular. Don't forget about the people who listened to you before it started becoming mainstream!!
Unfortunately we're the minority and from a business standpoint don't matter. Very unlikely we'll be seeing sets like PvD's sensation white set from 2004 again.
I totally agree; I find myself only listening to trance mixes from early 2010 and before that.
I think part of the problem is DJs being so widely heralded as rock stars in todays dance music scene. I always respected Armin as an artist, and he certainly was a DJ with great taste in trance, but that’s all DJs really are: people with good taste in music who can string the right tunes together at once. I think being able to attract such a large crowd as he does now entails a lot of performance-esque gimmicks like “Drop” tunes and cheesy LED display shows, whereas in earlier years (say, prior to 2010) it was just about going out to dance and hear great music. I guess it all boils down to, less is more.

This whole set is so warm, and familiar and just extremly melodic and uplifting! This compared to the stuff that we've been listening nowadays is miles ahead, which is kind of sad come to think of it. I dunno... i might just be getting old.

ASOT has been downgrading for the past years...This is still one of the best ASOT's i've listen.Starts slow but then enters Nitrous Oxide.From there its UP, UP and awayy!!!! 27:20 this Anjunabeats sound… Super8 & Tab were the ones who made me steer away from Armin/Armada in 2014 as I began to dislike their sound. This is the kind of track that made me rediscover my love for trance at the time. Anjuna was also going somewhere else but it was more of my thing, i do miss Nitrous Oxide, Super8 & Tab, Daniel Kandi and everything else uplifting Anjunabeats

When I first listen this 400 radio show is at my high school,and till now I still miss these real trance music day.

I remember listening leaving the stream up all 72 hours of asot400 (while sleeping too). Good Times! Yea I no longer listen to ASOT/trance, the trance sound changed to more of an electro sound which didn't really fit my tastes. You can find some older trancy sounding tunes still, but its not the mian sound anymore. Armin's DJing ability and being able to work a set/tell a story is still great though! Hopefully the trance sound will shift back. The older sets/days were an incredible time for me!

Nothing better than trance in its purest form. Sickens me that not many people have much interest in it these days i.e younger generations. Been a huge trance fan all my life, nothing comes close in my eyes . Nearly frowned upon by my mates and people I come across at parties when I start banging out trance. Most of the time I’m asked to turn it off, yet techno that has a simple baseline and not much else is what everyone wants to hear. I go to luminosity every year and nearly everyone there is older, which is savage because they’re such good buzzers to be enjoying the music with. Always think to myself that, as a trance fan, I was born in the wrong generation

OP: Yeah, sadly the time to be a 'trance' listener was the early to mid 90's. It meant when you listened to the music, you were usually in a warehouse at a rave, with drugs and love everywhere. The energy was off the charts. A club can't create the same vibe. And the fact it was still underground enough to not have caught the attention of the police made it feel like a bubble of simplicity within a world of complexity. I'm sure people who were teens in every era will say the same thing about their era :)
