Not sure how much I learned, but definitely the most fun I've had watching a plumbing video! I have a Tempra 29 to install tomorrow. Glad I didn't pay extra for the Plus model, maybe it'll last longer.
Thanks for the video. A friend has a 10 year old unit and was trying to learn some troubleshooting. Probably time for a new unit but I really enjoyed your video.
I think the bottom valve with the motor is for regulating your flow to control constant temp. I'm certain it doesnt read the pressure just the one above. as incoming water temp changes, the processor tries to keep temp stable by closing or opening that bottom valve via the motor.
These thing should last 20+ years. I noticed on your install there was no service valves installed, meaning the unit was probably not maintained for 7-years. It needs to be descaled every once in a while with vinegar, depending on your water and usage. Do that and it'll last for decades. Have your buddy come back and install the service valves.
Good video Kenny, the plumber is super funny, I was laughing a lot!. Cool unit, looks like a pretty easy install especially if you are just switching out units which is very nice!
My unit has just quit working after 7 years too. It keeps turning on one of the elements even when no water is flowing, tripping the thermal safety. A little disappointed as was hoping for at least 10yrs but that said I have a new one arriving tomorrow. With the aggravation of a service call and then getting parts it made more sense to just replace the whole thing. My power bill changed little but having hot water on demand far out weighs any downside plus, where my tank used to be I installed a sink.
I agree 7 years is good The gas inits don't last that long I'm pretty sure I'd rather h a.c ve a tankless unit and replace every 7 years than a tank unit
Mine is doing the exact same thing after 8 years. I replaced the flow sensor and the temp sensor and still overheating with no flow. One of the boilers stays on after the water is shut off and trips the thermal. My concussion is that the main control module is bad and can't order one. Oh well I have a new one on the way.
@4:27 LMAO! Thanks as I just start to figure out why one (out of two) heating units is dead (Tempra Plus). I suspect internal element is shot (over 10 years service), the primary heater is still kicking (eliminates flow sensor issue). If correct, sounds like NEW unit time, (or is it worth trying to replace only heating units)? Any wisdom from this post are greatly appreciated. /Mike
Great video. One question. I see a check valve was not installed on the cold water side. Is a check valve not needed or is there one built into the unit?
I see a couple of post about unit fails after seven years...Could calcium (scale) build-up the cause. Do you think a water softener system and/or scale cleaning would help? Or would it be worth the cost or replacing the unit is just cheaper and easier?
Just curious... normally they last 20 yrs.... did you ever change the filter at the inlets cold and hot... reason is if they clog up it will shut off system as fail safe for insufficient flow..
I have the same unit. When I got it installed, they placed a small water filter next to the unit. The filter is now leaking and I’m considering bypassing the filter. Is the filter necessary? All the units that I have seen do not have the filter.
It would be very very usefull, to know if somebody measured the actuall lowest power in Kw, that this heater can work, even with the lowest available gpm.
I have a tempura plus tankless, but the hot water cuts out pretty quickly, and then the cold water comes out for a minute, and then hot water comes out. I'm starting to hate it.
What is the sound that the unit makes right at the 7 minute mark? I just installed a Tempra Plus 20 and it is constantly making that same noise. I don't think it is normal.
Hi , I have a tempura plus, for some reason out of the blue. The high limit switch tripped. I resets the switches and one one resets. What the reason for this to happen?
*** A quick answer would be appreciated *** Need to ask a silly question but necessary to keep a happy family. I had my Steibel Tempra 29 installed today and 2 water heaters were removed. Great to hear back from you! I live in Fort Myers, Florida and I live here in a condo with approx. 1625 square feet with 2 full baths a laundry room and the usual kitchen appliances, dish washer, etc. I live here with my wife and I occasionally have friends and family that visit.
