Dave you are hitting the nail on the head with your vids keep up the great work. I have been practicing what you preach for 50 years great job keep it up
Dave, have you considered a lapel mic hooked to a $90 digital recorder, and just sync in post production? I think that'd be better for us, as the wind noise can be cut down, and you can also be as far from the camera as you want, and we'd still hear you.
Awesome video cool to see how easy it was for you to move that stove in and set it up. The "Benny Hill" style camera work took me back! I was waiting for you to slap a little old bald man on the head. Hope you get that joke! Thanks for this series brother I find myself waiting on every new video. God bless you.
Nice. I was going to say something about the state of your yurt and what you did for cleaning when I saw how dirty it was in your last video. Seems you took care of that nicely. I also have to say that while I love these videos, I feel a bit cheated. I was hoping to see how you would cope with some snow or real winter weather, kinda like that early video of you camping in the ice storm. Oh well, can't always get what you want.
@wildernessoutfitters So then you're not praying for good weather every night before bed? I would. But hey, I don't know how long you intend to go with this yurt series... I do hope you keep the structure up for the duration of the season.... and maybe do some short series when the weather gets bad or cold, to really test the yurt. But I love how you're demonstrating the lifestyle that can be lead, that of a more simple time.
I was wondering if any Monster cans were going to come rolling out from under the bed...LOL So I was wondering.. the firewood you keep outside. Why not build a small shelter to keep under? Seems like it would be a good way to keep it out of the elements.
Dave what would you think about using a 5 gallon bucket with a "Gamaseal Lid" in a backpack as a main carry device< as you could keep everything watertight?
I know in America rifles and long black powder guns are easy to access but would you think of ever taking an airrifle with you for squirel and rabbit as the ammos cheap and light and with a 12lb pressure it means you can hit bunnies at 40 yards no problems with a head shot.
Some times it scares me how much we have in common!! someone makes a comment about yurt being dirty and you blow it off then it diggs at ya lol keep on keeping on!!
Hey Dave , Im in Youngstown OH . and was wondering how our warm winter is affecting your self reliance situation . I would imagine its easier but what are some of the things you do differently ... also did you feel the earthquake we had on new yrs eve ?
Dave if you have answered this question then i am sorry But where did you get all those deer hides? did you tan them your self? if so can you post a how to thanks love the seris
Dave, do you ever wear waxed canvas/cotton clothes? Clothes like those made by Filson are very much of the longhunter period and mentality. They can be made by waxing Carhartts which makes them and everyman item. That would be a great video. Just crossed my mind so I typed it down.
@SilentStormOne I was referring to Native American, woman was the only one that clean the camp.I was just kidding Dave.I know its important to keep you camp clean
Wood is the only heat we have at my house. When I clean my stove pipe all I do is prop it up in the yard(on about a 45), ball up some news paper and light it in the bottom of the pipe. It burns up the creosote, and then I just tap on it and the ash stuck to the walls falls right out. A chimney fire would be the end of the yurt series for sure, which would really suck cause I freakin' love it.
@wildernessoutfitters Hi Dave I got a question about the stove. How often do you clean the stove pipes? I remember from when I was in the service we cleaned ours out about once a week. We used snow sand gravel pine bows and rags and various other methods. my ultimate tool I found for cleaning them was a brush for cleaning mortar tubes which fit just right and pulled through with a piece of 550 cord.
now you should hang the broom upside down from the outside chimney. clean sweep = mission accomplished = no problems. The old school way of house cleaning called for all out in the springtime for every rug and curtain for an airout and to get beaten into submission on the clothesline. It was 60 yesterday and 50 today in the 1st week of Jan when it usually is subzero here.
Dave, i would really like to know if you still have the emergency space blankets at the top of the yurt to reflect the heat, or did you take them down again?
Dave have you seen the manual washers made from a 5 gallon bucket and a new plunger it might be worth checking it out for in the yurt here is a decent video of one if you have seen it b4 watch?v=NRixmU_AOzg
good thing you cleaned up, the hay on the ground was annoying me! Still love to see just a little of your time out in the thick of it! Please continue these videos.
Was studying the layers on the floor of your yurt shelter. I usually put a tarp under our tent to keep the tent clean. It doesn't help with dampness inside the tent. Is that a wool blanket you put on the shelter floor under the cot? We don't have enough deer hides to cover the floor, but I'll bet that makes an awesome insulator against cold and damp, eh? Any suggestions on keeping moisture out of the tent during long term, wet weather situations?
Hey Dave...I was looking at Snowtrekker Tents as a comparison to the yurt, and was curious what your thoughts would be on stove location. Their tents have the stove jack in the corner....having used the center placement in the yurt for a while...I'd love to hear your thoughts on the pros / cons of these two stove placement locations. With the corner placement, I was concerned how hot the stove is right next to the tent fabric..and a potential fire hazard. Thanks!
@Redferdman1 Only lady Dave will be having in his Yurt will be his wonderful supportive wife or another family member or fellow brother, from what I have gathered from his vids he is a Strong God fearing faithful man, not being snotty here so please dont get me wrong , but your comment was just a little over the edge in my opinion. Peace
Hi Dave I have seen your Hudson Bay Tobacco and Fire Tin setting on the table. I would like to see what is in it. I have just recived one and have started putting it together as my main fire kit for my pack. It is a great pice to have. Thanks for the Videos keep them Comming Stewart from California.
@wildernessoutfitters Dave, I saw a few people have been asking about your intro music, and that you said you got it from a music company Does the song have a name? It's a great tune, and fits your videos perfectly. Keep up the great work, looking forward to the next video!
@wildernessoutfitters Nice. Keeping an eye on the stove pipe is very important for safety reasons as well. There is some kind of powder we used to burn in our stove from time to time to keep build up in the pipes down but can't remember what it was called. Great video series!
Bet you wish you could do that like that without Methamphetamine? lol Disclaimer, I am in no way suggesting drug use, just joking about the speed ... hahahah (that was sort of a pun, still joking!)
I love how practical your videos are. I subscribed because you talk about real issues, not the stuff most others discuss. Anyone can spend a few thousand dollars on an outfit, but doing it your way ensures you know how to use it, and can probably replace it in the woods. Thanks.
i have same prob when i start doing thing stuf never gos bark the i have to climb over it to do things when is the stuff going to learn to go back where it came from lol
Great series! How about any out of the yurt cleaning dutys? And I really want to see you get a deer, tan its hide and smoke the meat!! Keep up the great work Dave!
@wildernessoutfitters Wouldn't heat be more widely dispersed if it was in the middle? Or would you want it out of the way? Could you please explain why.
Dave you are hitting the nail on the head with your vids keep up the great work. I have been practicing what you preach for 50 years great job keep it up
Man I love this series!!!!! Can not get enough!
Now I understand why the women love their soap-operas. This is the best ever series.
Hey Dave, We put dirt in the bottom of our stoves. it helps keep them from moving around.
Most of what he was shaking out of the deer hides was hot chocolate mix! :-) Great videos, Dave...keep 'em coming!!

Hilarious, and awesome... now you've got us single guys thinking about doing our yearly house cleaning... maybe...
Thank you, loving this series

made a set of bamboo toast tongs out of a broken back scratcher today. It works great for ramen noodles. great idea.

so i wasnt the only one busy w this :D think i'd prefer the yurt over app tho, quick broom and finished
good thing you cleaned up, the hay on the ground was annoying me! Still love to see just a little of your time out in the thick of it! Please continue these videos.
Now this is Monster energy at its best, ^ minutes and its clean as a whistle....

Its amazing how much drit can wide up on the floor of your home.I have hard wood floors and every day i wind up with 2 are 3 cup of dirt every day..
Those deer are up in heaven thinkin' "I worked my ass off dodging bullets my whole life to grow that damn skin and you just step on it all day! sigh"
@wildernessoutfitters Wouldn't heat be more widely dispersed if it was in the middle? Or would you want it out of the way? Could you please explain why.
can you make a video of your dish washing set up im kind of curious.
man it awesome to be in the other bunk living in the yurt with you learning one on one with the man himself that would be a great experience
Does your wood burning stove cause problems with soot and ash in the yurt? I was raised with wood heat and prefer it to electric heat.
OK I was just cut'en up with dave I think he under stood what I was saying. But so no ones feeling gets hurt I'll remove my comment
Hey Dave you are the perfect Housemen ;) A Video about dressing deer skin's would be nice ;)
hunter's greeting from Germany
Love the vids. Kinda already worried there ending soon. Do I see a hint of a 3rd season of you know what in this video?
I would rather have the self cleaning yurt.
Dave, if you're ever in IL, you can help me clean my place LOL! Love the vids and everything you do and stand for!
Dave are you lefty? Your watch is on the same hand as me and you para-cord on the same hand too. Just wondering?
Dave, after spending the time in the yurt, would you rather have the yurt or a 10-12 ft canvas tent?
Looks good!
Hey Dave. How many more series of these will you make? I'm hoping you'll hit 60 videos at least.
Dave what about dental hygiene in the wilderness? you talked about hygiene in its other forms.
Any guy that goes thru this much trouble in such a hurry has to be expecting a lady ...
i was starting to notice the clutter; makes me feel better...but I am ocd. looks great
Im wondering if you might not leave the yert, i know i would want to live there. :)))
Must ask. Why black powder?
I would like to know what he said at 3:13 until 3:23. Ten seconds of wind lol
Haha how many furs do you have Dave? lol
