Hi im considering studying English lit at Glasgow university however I don’t think I know enough about it and feel my language and skills aren’t as advanced yet. I was wondering what type of work you would be completing studying English. Could you give me an example of a common task you would be asked to complete? And give any useful advice
Hi! I'd like to go to university of Glasgow, I really find it interesting that you can take outside subjects! I was just wondering: when you are looking for these outside subject, do you look at the description of the degree on this subject? I hope you understand what I mean. Thanks!
Depending on what degree you're studying, there might be courses that you have to take. Otherwise they're usually quite self-explanatory, and you can read the 'course-descriptions' of each course to see the learning outcomes and what specific topics that will be covered! :) Hope that answered your question! Hugs! x
Mathilde Hanoune well yeah, that’s the other courses that you have to choose from! So if you take psychology 1a you take it with the people who have psychology as their main degree! Except if you have required courses for your degrees, you take courses from other degrees in the first two years of uni! Did that answer your question better? :)
Hi Amanda! I'm starting Theatre Studies and English Literature at Glasgow University in September and I was wondering if you knew anyone else who is doing this combination of courses and whether they enjoy it! Thank you for making this video!!
Hi Amanda, I have an admit for MLitt in English Lit at the Uni of Glasgow. Can you tell me a bit about the English department at Glasgow? I understand you are talking about the UG course here, but if you know anyone in the PG course or have heard anything, kindly let me know. I am having a hard time deciding between the Uni of Glasgow and the Uni of York, so any advice is helpful :) Thank you.
Hi, I am currently studying English Language at Edinburgh but I’m planning on dropping out and applying for literature at Glasgow instead, I was wondering if you had and advice for getting into Glasgow for literature? Personal statement wise.
Hey there! I know you've (sort of) answered this question before, but I'm just wondering how many contact hours you had in first year weekly? I'm guessing it was around 15 lectures/seminars a week maximum (if you had approx 5 per subject?) I know it varies depending on the subject, but a rough idea would be great, thank you!
Jessie Davie hi! For first year I had exactly 12 contact hours per week! It does vary A LOT based on subjects though, as I know people who basically are in uni from 9-4 every day! xx
hey ! :) I will be studying english literature and russian next year at the university of Glasgow but I don't know if I should get English Language as a third course as I am a foreigner (french), and the essays scare me I'm afraid I will be lacking of some vocabulary and language at the beggining ! I'm C1 but I guess my english writing skills will have to be perfect. And I am hesitating on taking Italian so that I can have the opportunity to do a joint honours with Russian on my 4th year. Is English language worth it according to you ? Thank you for your amazing videos they really help ! :D
Hey! That's really great! I don't think you need to worry at all! I think english Language is really worth taking for one year as it really pairs well with English literature. You also just learn a lot of useful things about language (not just the english) that you can take with you to other courses. I also found that English Language was much easier than English Lit in terms of essays and language skills. For no course are they expecting perfection and it's all about the learning curve! Also, if you feel like you are struggling, there are a lot of resources available such as academic writing work shops, presentations etc! I would say go and talk to the advising team when you get to Glasgow in the Autumn, they can tell you exactly what you NEED to take, what your time table will allow you to take and what you need to to if you want to keep your options open! I hope that gave some insight at least! Hugs x
Thank you very much that helped me a lot ! It's great if there"s some workshops and stuff, I'll definitely see someone from the advising team. I just thought about something else, when are the breaks/ holidays during the year? and when do you finish school approximately at the end of the year? Sorry they don't really relate w/ the video but I was wondering xx
We usually go from mid-september to about a week before christmas! Then around the 7-8th of January to end of March! Then there is a 3-week spring break and then after that you have exams! The exact term dates for an upcoming school year can usually be found on the website under the registry tab! Hugs x
Hello! I'm considering studying both English and Comparative Literature at Glasgow starting next year so this was really helpful, thank you so much

Hey Amanda! Are you planning to teach after you graduate?
Actually, my 'long term plan' is to do a master in English Lit and then eventually a Phd! (So I guess I'll end up teaching some then!)
Hugs xx
Hope u ll succeed then!! ❤️
