I Had a Brittany Spaniel Australian Shepherd mix he live to be a month shy of being 13 years old love to find another one like him he had a bushy tail he was very smart wrote a song for him after he pass away posted on youtube
I got my Brittany completely by mistake from a shelter as a puppy. Best mistake ever!! He is gone now and I miss him so much. You folks talk about training the dog, hell it took my "Rowdy" 2 1/2 years of patient effort just to "train me", seriously! He had so much instinct and desire to please. Best dog I have ever known.
Thank you! Brittanys have a ton of energy, that can make it hard to focus. Pan gets a lot of exercise! I would also recommend getting a clicker & learning about positive reinforcement. Pan doesn't get fed out of a bowl... his eating time is training time. I also use REALLY good treats when I'm training something hard, want more focus, or that I want more drive with. I use fish or chicken. Good luck with your brittany! they're great dogs! feel free to ask me anything! =)
In the process of adopting a Brittany from American Brittany Rescue right now and cannot WAIT to have her here! This is a fantastic exhibition of the abilities of this breed outside the hunting field. Well done, Pan is pretty amazing, and you've done a phenomenal job teaching him!
Thank you! I'm so sorry for your loss. It sounds like Marion was well loved and lived a long life. I'm not sure how I'll survive when Pan passes. I tell people he's Peter Pan, so he'll live forever!
If only ahaha, I still have two other dogs with me so i still had some other dog company but no dog could replace Marion. Its funny, both my dogs mourned him just as badly as we did. One of ours didn't leave his bed for awhile because he was so heartbroken. How old is Pan now?
@lortsloki I'm so sorry for your loss! I keep telling myself Pan will live forever, because I know it will crush me when he passes away. He is my first Brittany and I had no idea what a wonderful breed they are! They really are so smart and happy! He isn't just a pet, he's my family :)
Fantastic video. You are so clever and have so much patience. We have had 3 brittanies over the years. Great great dogs. Two of them lived to be 13 years old and the last one had to be put down at 9. We miss them all so much and are hoping to get another one. I see that this video is old and I hope you do some more or maybe one on how to train just one thing.
Amazing! I have a Brittany and the dog trainer has taken to calling her "a special kind of stupid" but this video gives me hope. Words cannot express how impressed I am!
Aww that makes me so happy! He's getting old and unfortunately struggling with seizures and cancer. We're cherishing every moment we have left with him, and know our time with him is running short. 💔 He's still the same amazing dog he's always been, and we'll fight for him to be here for as long as he wants to fight
He still is learning new tricks! I really need to post a new video of everything he knows! He's SO stinkin smart! We started training him from the day we got him as a puppy!
I have a britney as well and she is great. Do you have any suggestions on helping them learn to fetch? she is smart, gets bored and does it once or twice. Any thoughts here would be great!
Thank you! Brittanys are amazing dogs!! The length of time it took to teach each trick varied. The longest one was the painting which took about a month I think. Some he picks up almost immediately! He's super smart, so he ALWAYS has to be learning something new! I need to post his new tricks... he's learned a ton more since this video! Thanks for watching!
Thank you! They are great dogs, but be ready for tons of energy! They need lots of exercise! It's totally worth it, though... they're such sweet hearts =)
Brittanies are incredibly intelligent, and are easily trainable with positive reinforcement and treats! They are so intent on pleasing "their people" and learning skills or tricks as part of the "work" that they crave. One thing I noticed training my Brittany buddy years ago (Roxy, who is nearly 14 years old and is now very much the little old lady) is how emotionally sensitive they are; they are so in tune to the tone of your voice and body language, and patience is the biggest key to training success. Brittanies easily sense when you are impatient or aggravated and become confused quickly. Roxy was able to understand most tasks and commands after about 6 - 8 training repetitions; I think that is about the average for Brittanies (?). Two things I could never get here to do (though we tried and tried); getting me a beer and catching things. The inability to catch in particular has always perplexed me. It's a concept that she just either doesn't seem to be able to comprehend, or she just doesn't want to do it. She just watches things fall to the ground and then retrieves (which she is great at). Bar none, she's the best dog friend I've ever had, period.
i just lost my beloved brittany Lacey. She was such a beautiful and loving companion. You are so right about Brittanies being sensitive. That dog lived to please me. I miss her so much. Your video was great. All Brittanies are beautiful.
Nick Battistella So sorry for you loss! Losing a fur baby is always so very hard. Time helps and thinking back on on the wonderful memories you had with her
rif167 Using a Brittany for a pet is a waste of good gun dog material :) The reason for not catching things is the setter part of her. Setters (and Brittanys) are not supposed to try to catch things still in the air, or else they would be jumping at flying birds and get themselves shot! They are suppose to retrieve after the bird is down. That is just generations of genetics. They are fast as lightning! She might be great at flyball. It is hard to work them enough to tire them out. They are bred to go in a dead run for hours at a time hunting. You will give out long before a Brittany will! A setter is worse! (longer legs) The setter that won the bird dog championship 2 years ago ran in a dead run for 5 hours, with no stopping and no breaks, and pointed 12 coveys of birds! You can walk and hunt a Brittany, most field trial setters must be hunted on horseback!
The brittany i grew up with would not lay down on command no matter what i tried but he learned to back up and to run when i said "children" because he didnt like kids other than us after one damn near tore his ear off. Glad to know another brittany wouldnt do a common trick lmao
There are Brittany's with naturally long tails, but the one in this video isn't one of them. If you look closely, it's just that he has really long tail hair on a short tail. I know because my Brittany, Apollo, has the same look whenever I don't trim his tail hair. I call it his little pom-pom.
Thanks so much! Pan doesn't require nearly as much now as he did when he was younger. The first couple years he needed at least an hour a day, or he would be stir crazy. Good luck with Pippin! Enjoy the puppy days, they fly by!
I am picking my Brittany pup up this Saturday. I stumbled across your videos and I am even more excited. I have a bunch of questions I would love to ask, would it be possible for me to email you?
Pan is amazing. I just got a Brittany puppy. I've had her for about a month and she's 3 months old now. I plan on shoeing her in rally, agility, confirmation, and many other things! I have a question. How did you teach Pan to bow along with you? And how did you teach him to get a tissue when you sneezed? :) Thank you. He's beautiful by the way.
Jose L. Valero Oh, the bow! I lured it at first. Rewarded it little by little. You can usually hold a treat between their front legs & they'll bow to try and get it. click & reward. Then start putting it on cue
Brittanys are GREAT dogs! By far the best breed I've ever come in contact with! Pan's breeder is Stonesriver Kennel. When we get another brittany we're definitely going back to them! I will warn you that they need a lot of exercise, though! For their brain & body! Let me know if you need any more help with your brittany search! Good luck!! =)
Hi I want to get a brittany. I know they are high energy dogs and need lots of exercise. Would the dog be okay with 1 hours exercise 3-4 days a week and play time in yard rest of the days? Also, would the dog be able to stay at home 4 hours at a time. I work 8 hours. I can come home in lunch time but other 7.5 hours dog needs to be by himself.
Ahaha i love Brittanys^^ and my dog crawl in the same way XD But why i see comments where there's write that Brittanys are not trainable?I always read in books, sites and in videos that they are great and very easy to train! Sorry for my bad english,i'm italian^^°
Brittanys are great dogs! They are completely trainable... People often confuse high energy with untrainable. Brittanys are really smart and if they get enough exercise are super easy to train! Thanks for the comment! =)
Aww! Don't listen to that trainer! She probably just learns different than the trainer is use to! Brittanys are smart but sometimes their energy makes them seem a bit crazy! haha! Good luck with her! I'm sure she's going to be a great dog! =)
I think Pan is amazing, I'm getting my Brittany puppy in a week (Roxy) if you could give my some tips on the dog that would be great, I'm planning on teaching her many things.
mary anne Congrats!! That's so exciting!! I would say you want to start right away. I highly recommend clicker training. Have Roxy work for her breakfast and dinner, do a lot of recall (try puppy pingpong), be patient, have fun with it, consider working with a trainer (make sure to look into credentials... I don't recommend pet store trainers), LOTS of exercise (VERY IMPORTANT!), and enjoy every second you have with your new pup. They grow up too fast and are gone before you know it.
+Happy Thoughts Agility About how much exercise do you give him a day and in what way? I really want a Brittany because they seem like the perfect fit for my family, but I want to make sure he'll get what he needs. We have a medium sized yard. But I expect to take him on a 30-minute walk/jog and play a half hour of fetch/play every day. And then obedience training on top of that. Do you think that's enough? Also, my husband and I both work full time but while I work 9-5 his schedule is pretty random. So there may be 1 or 2 days a week where the pup will be left at home for ~7 hours (although I can come home for lunch for 40 minutes), then 2 or 3 days he'll be home for ~4 hours, and then 3 or 4 days a week one of us will be home all day. I know this is a lot to ask and you're probably not an expert or anything, but as a Brittany owner, do you think a Brittany would be happy with that routine? More than anything I don't want to bring a dog home and have him be miserable.
+Queen Rexy Hi! When Pan was young he required A LOT of exercise. I would have to give him about an hour of running or swimming for him to be tired (a tired brittany is a happy brittany). Another aspect you should consider is mental stimulation. They're really smart and need mental challenges. I think if you and your husband are committed to getting your brittany exercise and mental stimulation everyday then it can work. I see far too many brittanys end up in rescue because people don't realize how much attention they need. I highly recommend giving them a job. Pan loves agility, but it can be anything... hunting, agility, obedience, rally, nosework, etc. Not sure if I answered your question well enough, but hopefully it helped. Let me know if you have any other questions! :)
Thank you so much for the quick response! It helped a lot. There's a dog park 10 minutes from our house that has a large pond for dogs to swim in and I bet it'd be great in the summer to give him exercise and still be able to stay cool. For the running, did you run with him? When he's older I'd love for him to get some mile or two long runs alongside my bike, but I've heard bike running isn't recommended under a year and a half. The job part I've been wondering about. We don't hunt but I'm sure a Brittany would still enjoy hide and seek games. Maybe we could get into obedience like yours seems to excel in :) or agility could be fun. How much per week do you spend working with pan on his specific job, such as agility?
Sure! Congrats on your new pup!! That's SO exciting! you can either message me through youtube or send me your email & I can email you from my personal email. I love to talk to anyone about brittanys... they're an amazing breed! =)
My family and I are thinking of getting a Brittany the only problem is my brother is handicapped(9 years old), do you think the dog will be gentle with him?
I mean: i saw once one guy trow his disc and disc fell on the ground and brittany took it and bring to him. but didn't see catch in the air :( so if you do pleeeeeeeeeeeease make vid :)
My Brit never figured out the "catching" thing. And, I've never seen one that was able to catch; they all just kind of watch things fall to the ground and then retrieve (which they are great at). If you're looking for a frisbee dog-buddy, I'd be looking at a border collie or lab.
+CODExpert Boy If you work with and train your brittany to respect your bunny, then you should be fine. You have to put the time and effort into it though... it won't happen magically
different tricks took different amounts of time for him to learn. Some he picked up right away, and some took multiple training sessions. I'm always teaching him something new to keep his mind active =)
I Had a Brittany Spaniel Australian Shepherd mix he live to be a month shy of being 13 years old love to find another one like him he had a bushy tail he was very smart wrote a song for him after he pass away posted on youtube

Great job training your pooch. You can see that he is enjoying it also.
Good looking Brit and of course smart.
Pan is so cute! I had a Brittany named Marion, he died last year at the age of 14, but he new a ton of tricks too! Makes me miss him more.
Thank you! I'm so sorry for your loss. It sounds like Marion was well loved and lived a long life. I'm not sure how I'll survive when Pan passes. I tell people he's Peter Pan, so he'll live forever!

Fun video. My Brittany is 6 now and they still learn as they get older, sometimes he teaches me new things!
Totally awesome dogs! Wish I still had one!
I just love this boy, I have watched this so many times! Dreamer is jealous of his blanket roll up!
haha! I love that trick too!
I love getting the tissue, closing the cabinets and the fridge trick. Really great ideas. Very impressive training. I have two brittany’s.
outstanding!! I have had Brittanys for 30yrs now and they never stop amazing me.
Awesome. Reminds me of my Tara. I loved her so much.
@lortsloki I'm so sorry for your loss! I keep telling myself Pan will live forever, because I know it will crush me when he passes away. He is my first Brittany and I had no idea what a wonderful breed they are! They really are so smart and happy! He isn't just a pet, he's my family :)

You are so talented,
That dog is too! But you are most talented because he/she couldn’t teach herself those amazing tricks!!
I am in love with this breed even more *_*. He is more smart, responsive and obedient than most of the kids.
Brittanys are truly the best dogs im getting one as a puppy cant wait
Brittanys are great dogs! I'm sure Pan will be teaching me new things well into his old age!
You've done extensive work with your Brittany and it is a wonderful sight!
Wow, this is incredible. I wish my Brittany was taught stuff like that when he was younger. They're great dogs!
They really are wonderful dogs! I love the breed!
Brilliant dog training, he is wonderful
Amazing! I have a Brittany and the dog trainer has taken to calling her "a special kind of stupid" but this video gives me hope. Words cannot express how impressed I am!
You are so talented and really do tricks well!
How is Pan these days? Pan's videos inspired me to get a Brittany of my own, but I can't believe 6 years has passed by since then.
Aww that makes me so happy! He's getting old and unfortunately struggling with seizures and cancer. We're cherishing every moment we have left with him, and know our time with him is running short. 💔 He's still the same amazing dog he's always been, and we'll fight for him to be here for as long as he wants to fight
I just found my new favorite breed 😭 so cute it makes me cry
That was AWESOME to watch!
We are getting a Brittany soon!!
I love Brittanys. Had two love the breed!!! Best ever!!!
I have a Brittany spaniel too and he is a great dog
nova five Britts are wonderful! I don't know what I'd do without my Pan =)
brittany's are the best! my chloe has been gone for 10 years now and i still can't bring myself to get another pup.
:-( hang in there bud
Thanks! He loves to do his tricks... mostly for the treats! haha!
When it can do my boring office jobs I'll adopt one in a shot!!
He still is learning new tricks! I really need to post a new video of everything he knows! He's SO stinkin smart! We started training him from the day we got him as a puppy!
Thanks! He is SUPER smart!
Hahahaa the way he crawls xD... he is amazing !
Thank you! He's super smart and has learned lots more since this! =)
Such a smart dog 💕
Great job!

My brittany would never do this XD I tell her to crawl, as soon as she sees the treat she just goes BOLTING for it
My dream dog is a brittany! How long did it take for you to teach him, because this is just amazing!
This is a great video I am planning to show it to my parents so I can get a brittany spaniel.
Thank you! They are great dogs, but be ready for tons of energy! They need lots of exercise! It's totally worth it, though... they're such sweet hearts =)
Thank you! Good luck with your new furry baby! :)
Thank you! He's a silly boy!

He is fantastic!!! great job, but what do you expect from a Brittany :-)
I WANT ONE WHERES TH PLACE U GOT URS!!!!!!!!!! SOOOOOOOO CUTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great job with the tricks, I subscribed.
I want a brittany pup so bad! Do you have any suggestions for one (I need a puppy so it can't be a rescue) where did you get pan?
What kind of cheese or treats do you use with him?
THANK YOU SO MUCH. WE LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a Brittney and he loves to do tricks
Love this video, I have a Brittany spainel🐶
Thank you! Britts are the best!! =)
Hey love the video...we have a male brittany and two other dogs. I haven't seen many with a long tail but they are so funny regardless
There are Brittany's with naturally long tails, but the one in this video isn't one of them. If you look closely, it's just that he has really long tail hair on a short tail. I know because my Brittany, Apollo, has the same look whenever I don't trim his tail hair. I call it his little pom-pom.
I love your videos with Pan! I am getting a Brittany named Pippin in June. How much exercise does Pan require?
Thanks so much! Pan doesn't require nearly as much now as he did when he was younger. The first couple years he needed at least an hour a day, or he would be stir crazy. Good luck with Pippin! Enjoy the puppy days, they fly by!
haha - fantastic. achoo is my favorite by far.
also that dog closes the fridge! i can't even get my kids to do that.
Putsomewindexonit how long did it take you to teach him all those tricks and how old was he when you started?
I am picking my Brittany pup up this Saturday. I stumbled across your videos and I am even more excited. I have a bunch of questions I would love to ask, would it be possible for me to email you?
My Brittany was a great catcher.
I have a brittany spaniel too, how can I teach him the first trick? Its so nice!
They're great dogs! I'd recommend you get a clicker & use that for trick training. Sit is usually the easiest trick to teach them first =) Good luck
PutSomeWindexOnIt Absolutely! But I wanted to say the first trick that Pan do in the video, the little bow. How can I teach that to Django? Thanks!
Jose L. Valero Oh, the bow! I lured it at first. Rewarded it little by little. You can usually hold a treat between their front legs & they'll bow to try and get it. click & reward. Then start putting it on cue

Also, would the dog be able to stay at home 4 hours at a time. I work 8 hours. I can come home in lunch time but other 7.5 hours dog needs to be by himself.
OMG!! That was great
I use string cheese, his regular food, chicken breast, & grilled fish with his training. He's a bit spoiled! :P
Oh you're welcome =)
And thanks for the clarification!
Ahaha i love Brittanys^^ and my dog crawl in the same way XD But why i see comments where there's write that Brittanys are not trainable?I always read in books, sites and in videos that they are great and very easy to train!

wow first time i saw long tail :O
Woah I didn't even notice
very nice
Aww! Don't listen to that trainer! She probably just learns different than the trainer is use to! Brittanys are smart but sometimes their energy makes them seem a bit crazy! haha! Good luck with her! I'm sure she's going to be a great dog! =)
How come the tail of Pan is feathered?
Most people shave the tail hair off... but I like it. I think its cute & I've never shaved it and never will
Oh

I might get a Brittany
My family and I are thinking of getting a Brittany the only problem is my brother is handicapped(9 years old), do you think the dog will be gentle with him?
Meghan Bankapur yes, they are very sweet, unless it gets raised roughly, they also love to play
Meghan Bankapur I know this was posted a while ago, but did you get a Brittany and if so how has it been doing with your brother?
Electro MC We actually did not get a Brittany, we got a puggle
Cute
Thank you! Your dog is awesome too! subbed back =)
Would a brittany in an apartment be so bad? I'd like one, but it will be long before I can afford a house...
caan brittany fetch flying disc in the air just like German SHorthaired poiter/?
I don't see why not =) Brittanys are just as athletic. I haven't done disc stuff with Pan, though.
Will he work without a bribe?
Could you train my kids to behave like your Brittany?
That's great. Brittanies rule. But it's just Brittany - no spaniel. That was corrected long ago. Cheers
im getting a Britney spaniel but will it Attack my bunny?
+CODExpert Boy If you work with and train your brittany to respect your bunny, then you should be fine. You have to put the time and effort into it though... it won't happen magically
+CODExpert Boy if it does it won't hurt it b/c they have a soft mouth
My brittany live with two bunnies and he loves them especially mine. He always kiss him and protect him
CEM PLATE Brittany's won't be so friendly with birds so keep that in mind because they are hunting dogs
they are the best dogs in the world, most friendly dogs ever
This dogs are for hunting not for playing take him for hunting he will be happy dog
ua-cam.com/video/sD6jSTS72t0/v-deo.html my new puppy Pippin :o)
He's adorable! Congrats!
How long did it take for the spaniel to learn all of that?!
different tricks took different amounts of time for him to learn. Some he picked up right away, and some took multiple training sessions. I'm always teaching him something new to keep his mind active =)
Ok because I'm getting a new puppy soon so I want it to be smart!
