Does it have a metal or plastic outer shell? You said it has a 9-volt power supply input ... that sounds like it can take a battery but the two-page manual doesn't specifiy that. Can you run it on a battery or do you have to use a regular power supply?

I'm looking at mine right now out of the box and it sure does not seem to accept a battery. Wish I would have known to also order the DC 9V supply cable although I'm certain I have one buried in a box somewhere.
