Bob Nelson from Wolf Ridge brings us a brand new newly designed grapple that is AWESOME for firewood production.. Today we test it out...In The Woodyard!!
We have 2 skid steers and 2 tractors to use it on and we have already had 2 or three working together to move firewood, you will see what it can do soon. Kinda like having multiple saws with multiple guys to run them at the same time....lots more work gets done lots faster...if you are into that sort of thing....we are.
With a few mods to side plates, it will work well for both logs and split wood. This is also for a guy who wants to use 1 piece of equipment to do both jobs without switching attachments.
This is Ken from Western North Carolina. I think it'll be a great asset. I had doubts the first few minutes but after I saw it working in that pile of firewood" I like it a lot"
Chris, thank you for showing the Wolfe Ridge grapple on your channel! Really looking forward to see what else you do with it. Also thanks for the mention of my channel, appreciate that. Have a good week!
I had a 262b Cat skid steer when I had roll off trucks and bins. I sold it when I retired from the business, not knowing I would be in the firewood business years later. It had a grapple on it that would pick up 2 tons! The unit weighed 11, 500 lbs. Sure was handy to pick up a deer and skin it. Lol
You guys had mentioned on the Friday night live, you had a new toy, I kept hoping Wolfe Ridge sent you a 40' conveyor to make those piles of yours taller!!!!!! (Wink wink Bob, get the man a conveyor 😂😂) That grapple is nice though too, new toys, I mean tools are always nice 💪💪
That’s a great design having the curved fronts like that. Holds the logs a lot better than mine. Might have to do a little work to mine!😬 Take care Carl!👍🏻
Morning Woodhounds! Sorry, I’m late, had to get a fire built to keep the wife warm today! It’s a chilly, 28 with wind gusts to 35 mph here in Southwest Virginia.
Awesome looking grapple and in the right wood yard to put it threw its paces to say the least. Loads of feedback, finds its limits, Bert to fix it and show how easy or hard it would be to fix, and add suggested modifications or changes. Let the comments flow. Great to see Bob again. Always enjoyed his content at his last job as well as visiting that other wood yard in North East Ohio, Ohio Wood Burner. Bob also has a great channel going. Subscribed to all. Gotta say, Bert has a great channel going as well, Bert’s Customer Cuts. After seeing the shop at Wolf Ridge on the channel of Wolf Ridge, things are on pace for growth while maintaining quality and customer feed back. Chris, thank you for all the hard work and long hours you put into your videos. 👍🏻👍🏻
That bucket will be sweet for split firewood on concrete. You could split into a huge pile and then scoop it to where you want it, especially during the snow season.
If grabbing bigger piles of logs, I would say take sides off. When using to load processor 1 at a time works best. Talking with Bob more after using it, they are making end plates with cutout towards front more for grabbing logs better and still being able to utilize as a bucket as well. There should be more videos of using it coming soon.
@@BertsCustomCutsthat’s a good idea. If those sides were cut off vertically half way you’d be able to do a little of both. They’re removable anyway so that’s convenient.
That looks like a very nice bucket and grapple. You can scoop up wood without all the dirt and trash. Looks like it would be very useful for many applications.
I have one just like it. Really a great do it all attachment for all types of wood from brush to logs. The side plates on mine aren't as pronounced and it's ok to remove them for hauling more logs.
That grapple is a tank! I have a Wolferidge skid steer splitter to bust up the big stuff and videos and pictures dont do it justice and Im sure that grapple is the same way! AND the fact you can remove the sides is huge benefit!
Hey Chris, there may be a way to hook up the grapple to your tractor with out changing your hydraulic tips. Go to a farm and ranch store and ask for two quick couplers. You will need to know what the names of tips are and the name of your tractor hydraulic ends are called. The quick coupler will snap onto the ends of the grapple hoses and then snap into the ends of the tractor hydraulic hoses.
Great video again! And yup, it is an interesting toy! Too far out of our budget (now) albeit. Well, You started with an ax and chainsaw, and look at where You are now. At least we have chainsaws and grabby little Chinese splitting machine. Maybe we will be there one day... (btw my son watches Your videos too). Best job he (and I) ever had, You know. Go Chris!
What a nice grapple. 2nd video before i get out of bed for the day!! Coffee soon... glad bob was able to hook ya up with thise beauts and good on yall for being able to hook bob up with some totes
I think this is better for shrubbery and rocks it may have uses on the farm but as far as the wood business not so much. Picking up the split works nice but then they all stick in the slats. I'm pretty sure you made your mind up when you saw it perform. This is Kenny from Western North Carolina chili here in the 40s but getting moderated the end of the week in the '60s. No wood for me. I broke my arm.
That Grapple is Very Impressive, Bob is doing very well at Wolfe Ridge they have very nice Equipment, would you consider going to the Wolfe Ridge Facility in Wisconsin,
I bet wolf ridge ends up changing the profile of those bolt on side plates slightly. Just enough to capture a log a *little* easier and still hold the loose split wood in.
Good morning everyone!!!! 🌞 Chris, who is the elderly gentleman running the skid steer? He was also the gentleman who ran the tractor when you guys were cutting down all that ash. 🤔😃👍❤️📹🚜🚜🚜🚜
That looks like a direct copy of our hla skeleton and grapple assembly ours is about 15 to 19 grand Canadian depending upon the configuration..... what's the price for this one
Now, to switch your eastonmade ultra to a wolf ridge wood splitter, and you'd be set. Makes sense to support an American company if you are an American. Being Canadian, it would be eastonmade for me.
@@InTheWoodyard yes I heard that but my comment was meant to cause anyone that thinks this world just happened without God to think a little tiny bit and realize that human beings were designed and created by God and not some big bang or something that happened through evolution.

Bert need tracks on his 483 S now for logging into back fields . My CAT loader gear up 🔝 the same way just a little bigger them 483 S there work great in the woodyard Chris . Cut down on time and time is money 💴 in firewood 🪵 business 🧑💼. Chris there work great on over size cabbage 🥬 to take out in the field for the moose herds in the 709 . 😊😊
The self leveler on the skid isn't helping any. I have a stone fork and need to tip it a little higher as it goes up to stop the spillage. They'll get better with practice too. I kind of scoop down from the top to force more splits into the bucket then you close up as you lift.
Machine operator isn’t doing the machine any favors lugging the engine and hydraulic system,it’s supposed to be run fast enough to not lug and strain the pumps,if that was my machine I’d get him out of it before he damages the pumps or engine.
I have 3 different grapples for wood and wouldn't do wood with out em.. i think im actually around 17 attachements for my skid loader. Everything from post holes to stump grinders, and many others in-between.. they can do so much ..

I don't actually see the advantage of this. It's DEFINITELY cool but seems redundant. Cool video.
redundant perhaps for those that already have both a regular bucket and a grapple.
I works great!
We have 2 skid steers and 2 tractors to use it on and we have already had 2 or three working together to move firewood, you will see what it can do soon. Thanks for trying out the new grapple Chris! We look forward to working with you more in the future as well!
Thanks for bringing it over! More to come for sure!

Yup, so far it has been great, we just moved a big pile with it and she did great!
Awesome new tool to play with. Best of luck to Bob with his new job at Wolf Ridge.👍TCT

slows down the hydraulics and better meets reaction time.
