i think the issue is that pogacar and evenepoel will always attack the peloton like this and then noone can follow. in the old days it was way more common that there was a group to the finish and then someone like allaphilipe won the sprint. but i dont think we will see many editions like that anymore. altho if Evenepoel and Pogacar would be on equal level and they dont want to ride with each other to the finish he could have a chance if hes in the group behind. but yea that can nly happen if they are equal and if they dont want to ride together (evenepoel and pogacar).
@@Lion-wd1pxif my aunt had balls… many ifs and he got 3rd, the highest achievable while the field wasn’t exactly stacked with some contenders having crashed out. If Pogacar wasn’t there, there would have been a group with guys like Van Gils, Healy, Cosnefroy, Bardet, Bilbao,… fighting it out for the win. The presence of pogacar was actually very beneficial for mvdp as the race for 2nd and 3rd is raced much more tactical, enabling mvdp to come back.
@@l.d.t.6327 you could see his form decline in Amstel, i bet he still can reel back all thos second tier guys with fresher legs and LBL specific traning. Keep in mind the man only had a 3 week break since dominating the cyclocross winter and spring and then the cobbles classics
