I worked in Yardley in the mid to late 80s as a live in carer at a care home for adults with autism and disabilities. It's long gone and it's housing now.
Haven't been there for over 40 years, seemed okay as I stayed in Yardley for the weekend. Birmingham is what it is, not pretty but Manchester, Sheffield, Philadelphia all have that same feel.
Plenty of beautiful pretty parts of Birmingham m which is btw one of the greenest cities in Europe…. It also has areas with lots of independent shops, restaurants. Cafes etc…. People on the whole are very friendly and welcoming too
