Well. twitch channel/youtube channel hyperrpg went through a lot of rules from saban and had a saban higher up on their behind the scenes each week live when they did PowerRangers HyperForce tabletop rpg. and Mike Ginn guested during their travel to the rpm verse for a short time. so.. that was an experience. Mike Ginn also stayed on hyper for some 1 shot rpgs and a series of rpg livestream volumes using 10 Candles. follow that up with HyperForce Yellow and HyperForce Black are digital in Power Rangers Legacy Wars the video game... it was a great experience
That is why Power Rangers RPM is my number one favorite Power Rangers series because it was willing to be different compared to any Power Rangers series and even the Super Sentai adaptions
The irony is with all the drama is easily considered one of if not the best power rangers series and literally saved power rangers here. Also one of if not the only series where almost every character/actor had and has mainstream success to this day to the point lots of people forget they were on power rangers. It shows how well written and acted the season was. Probably the best acted season overrall.
To be fair there are other Power Rangers actors from the series that have pretty mainstream success off the top of my head the Pink Ranger from Time Force is a mainstay on those Hallmark movies which despite being cringe actually make quite a bit of money.
@@theninjamaster67 only her and Johnny young Bosch in mainstream media so far... he's currently voicing Ichigo and vash in the current seasons (which I will left to other people's opinion on the shows).. was hoping the og red ranger to be back in the Netflix ranger reunion but got accused of COVID medical stuff charges and the others choose not to show up due to undecided contract or choose not to reprise their roles...
@@drifter4training Eka Darville has been in many shows and movies. Every time I see him I lose my shit. Also the dude who played Jack in SPD has been in movies as well
RPM did great at explaining their powers and the suits/mecha. Why it was designed the way it was. The suits were really cool too. It was a really solid sentai season as far as design
People don't remember how special 2009 was for tokusatsu. We not only got RPM, the last Power Rangers season by Disney, but we also got Kamen Rider Dragon Knight, the first American Kamen Rider adaptation since the 90s, Kamen Rider Decade, the end of Phase 1 Heisei era, Kamen Rider Double, the beginning of Phase 2 Heisei, and Samurai Sentai Shinkenger. And Shinkenger and Decade would crossover a couple of times.
Considering the brought back Venjix and Dr. K back in Beast Morphers (not the best season, but decent) really says a lot about how much this season meant to PR as a whole.
For me, the problem I had with RPM had nothing to do with the series itself. It was the airtime. RPM was the last program to air on Saturday mornings. Unfortunately, ABC often pre-empted it with sports programming.
I never understood why Disney didn't even put the show on Disney XD. It would been a hit period. I wished they tried a little effort to put it on Disney XD. It's like they wanted to air the show at 4 AM on ABC Kids.
Great video! It really makes me wonder how different the ending of RPM would have been if Eddie had been allowed to finish as EP. There’s even a rumour of there not being a “Black Ranger” episode because he wanted to have that be the finale title where Dillon is discovered to be a Venjix bot & final villain from the beginning, and for Tenaya to have been a red herring. So then she would have gotten her morpher and became a ranger, as said in the panel. It would have made 10 year old me CRY but I would have also kinda loved it
I can't help but wonder what Tenaya's ranger would have looked like if Eddie did get his wish. There was no counterpart in Go-Onger, so whatever they would have come up with, would have had to be completely original. While still resembling the RPM rangers.
And now we see why RPM was the best of the series, because oh . . . writers were allowed to actually be creative and not do stupid gags that made it seem like the show needed to be dumbed down. Hopefully Hasbro/Netflix considers doing this going forward themselves.
In my opinion, this series coulda been a great send-off to another variation of rangers, perhaps in an alternate world. Of all the Disney Ranger Teams, Jungle Fury was probably the closest thing to the old school rangers team that we had, but RPM suffered from Disney preparing to write off the whole franchise instead of trying to figure out how to get kids attention to the show again. I would have made it so the next ranger team was the children of the first 2-3 teams and that they got their powers in different ways and good it from their parents. That way, you could re-introduce this generation of PR fans to the original generation.
from a business standpoint they had to get something out that year bc of their deal wit Bandai and we’re not going to produce a new series, so I get it in that aspect it’s just tht it ended up bein garbage lollll
@@gogereaver349 Who do you mean? Super Sentai's not over. It's coming out with a new series in March called "Oshama Sentai King-Ohger" with a hybrid insect and monarch theme. Or are you referring to the old rumor that Hasbro has cut ties with Toei and will not be utilizing Super Sentai footage for future series. Cause that rumor has been debunked for months now by Simon Bennet himself.
I was probably one of the few people at the time who was aware that this season was out there and happening, mostly because I searched fan sites that chronicles this stuff and kept track of air dates. The now defunct Linear Ranger website was one of my favorites to go to before he retired during the airing of the revised Mighty Morphin' in 2010. I did watch it and I enjoyed what I saw. The downside was that in the area I lived, the show aired at six o'clock in the morning. As a result, I only watched about the first 13 or 14 episodes before giving on "Power Rangers" because I was getting tired of waking up that early and it was the summer before I would officially be starting High School. I did manage to catch the rest later thanks to early era UA-cam. I realize it's probably a moot point now but a part of me can't help but wonder whether or not this season would've been a ratings smash had it been left in it's old Kalish Era time-slot of Monday nights at 8 o'clock when Toon Disney made the switch to Disney XD. I'd like to think the ratings would've been at least comparable to S.P.D. I remember early on they stated that Disney XD's mission statement was to air content specifically targeted towards boys aged 8-14. It sounds like "Power Rangers" would've fit right in with that demographic. Not to mention one of R.P.M.'s motifs was of race cars which I was under the impression that most boys loved. Eddie Guzelian was right. Disney foolishly set aside a gold mine.
Actually the rangers also aired at noon Saturdays on abc that’s where I watched the Disney era of the show it would get preempted occasionally due to some college football games having noon start times but that’s where I normally watch the show
A girl in my 3rd grade class told me there’s toys for it and her brother has some and I eventually found out but didn’t know where to watch it back then
I was born in 86 so I was there for the OG ones. Always kept my nostalgic love but lost track of them. Once I found this in Netflix and had just started doing home office. It was my downfall, my productivity decreased 10 fold. The show totally gripped me. I watched it for the plot, I couldn't believe it. Everyone's super charming and it's the kind of stuff an adult loves to see in PR (without going full mature).
I was born in 84 and became a fan watching the original rangers and still a fan all these years later but I have heard conflicting information on the fox family purchase one source said that Disney wanted the channel and happened to get the rangers a like a consolation prize not really wanting the franchise and the other was that the rangers were a big factor in them buy fox family but the first account sounds more likely true cause of the information that has come out over the years of how Disney treated the franchise that they saw potential in the channel at the time but since did really nothing with as far as breakout shows that crossed generations to now just being more of a teen focused channel
You're not the 1st person to speak about the RPM problems but the weirdest is that some people in the Disney era of Power Rangers wanted it to be animated, so we could have gotten RPM as an animated version with in the Disney Era.
@@HedgeOnStage there’s a couple of other animated shows that I kind of wanna see animated Power Rangers look like, one I recommend watching, even if it’s just the first ever episode, as I have is Arcane, it’s based on a video game called League of Legends and the animation style is so unique and beautiful, every shot is a literal work of art, probably because of the animation style, your guess is as good as mine, but yes, I want a Animated Power Rangers to look just as unique and beautiful as Arcane.
@@HedgeOnStage There's a few advantages to the idea though. They could do a lot more with the monsters that would be impossible to do in live action. Besides, I feel like a lot of veteran actors would be onboard should it come to pass. (Excluding the ones who were enrolled into a union, died or moved on from the franchise, of course.) But I think it could work. I'm just imagining how all the original rangers from MMPR to Dino Fury would look in animated form. My issue would be all the distinctive features of each actor being simplified to look more child-friendly, to be honest. But yeah, I've always wondered how they'd look in modern-cg visuals.
RPM was and still is easily the best power rangers show i have ever seen. it had such a great all or nothing final grand hurrah feel to it. its still the best. and i watched it as an adult after seeing the "why do the zords have anime eyes?" scene, while channel surfing. seriously i was flipping thru and suddenly theres a girl in a lab coat with an anime eyed vehicle behind her on a screen and green guy says his line and i was all "wtf what!? no! the rangers never question the absurd logic of their weapons and kit they just go with it like its the greatest idea ever! why are these guys rebelling?" watched it thru and thought it was pretty great. did some online digging found out it was supposed to be the final show. and decided to watch the whole thing thru.
I would say Power Rangers in Space while not as snarky was also really great for the same reason that it was to be the last season of Power Rangers and you can feel that they went ya know what this is it guys this is the end so lets go out with a bang and it ended up being so successful that it saved the show but that time it was a bit more impressive I'd say cause it wasn't about the company that owned it not wanting to fund the show it was the fact that Saban entertainment was nearly bankrupt and Power Rangers in Space saved the entire company because of how well it did and how good it truly was. I really have a tough time deciding which I like better cause they were both really good and have that same feeling of lets go out with a bang.
I loved rpm even though I was only 6 at the time, ziggy was my favourite after he was introduced I just loved tuning into each episode, he was hilarious and by far one of my favourite greens. tbh thinking about it now I loved the whole team.
@@HedgeOnStage IT IIIIIIIIS. And honestly, the first time I watched it, I didn't notice the change in direction/writing toward the end. It wasn't until someone pointed out the change a while after that going back I could be like "oooh, yeah, it is a little bit more noticeable now." But that doesn't detract from my love of it. If anything, that a new crew came in and still managed to land the ending that they did is impressive.
I remember finding out about RPM when me & my brother went to the Disney store and pointed out to my parents 2 water cups and two plates one for rpm and one for operation overdrive which how we learned about rpm, i was just in middle school at the time and wasn’t until we found it on UA-cam and Comcast on demand that we got to watch some of the series
Ngl but I used to be obsessed with this season as a kid. Like every time a new episode came on, I was ecstatic! It made 2009 one of the best years, if not the best year, of my childhood. I even bought the DVD for it recently. I also really liked that Behind the Scenes episode they did. It felt so surreal for a children's show to show that kind of stuff specifically to young audiences. Also I want to mention Blood Punch here because that movie feels like a sequel to RPM since all the main characters/actors in that movie are the same main characters/actors we see in RPM.
This is a great video of one of my favorite series of Power Rangers. So many people overlook this season, but this will be a special season and I appreciate it for being so different
RPM is made more for adults and it is how a combat unit like Power Rangers are likely to be used in a real war. It is actually very similar to the Battle of Britian during WW2. (I don't know whether Eddie that wrote the show is familiar with the Battle of Britain and draw inspiration from there. But, it is really very similar.)
I remember doing a beige watch of all power rangers series before samurai came out and when I got to RPM I lost my mind on how good this series was compared to all the others. Things were explained that never were explained before and the characters were well fleshed out. It became my favorite and still is my favorite series in the franchise. There were even moments that I got emotional which from watching many of the series was rare. If you haven’t watched RPM I recommend as a huge RPM fan that you do.
I think a handful of channels who've dove into what happened to Saturday Morning Cartoons may have solved the main problem that Disney had with Power Rangers. While RPM was the only season that aired exclusively on the ABC Kids Saturday morning lineup, it was the only show that ABC Kids had for years where news episodes were on their block before they aired reruns on cable. They'd had one or two other shows over the time that the block existed, but mostly leased packs of episodes of other Disney shows from the Disney Channel. Except, one day, they straight up just stopped ordering new episodes. I think it was upwards of three years that the only show ABC Kids aired new episodes of anything was Power Rangers. How those cartoon lineups had worked, for a long time, was that a specific group who leased the episodes of shows for syndication subleased time on Saturday mornings from the public channels & these lineups were run almost like their own little channel. One of those UA-cam channels that did a documentary on the matter figured out that whoever was in charge of ABC Kids had a falling out with Disney because Disney was charging too much for their shows. Power Rangers was cheaply made, cheaply leased & was technically created by a separate company from Disney, Buena Vista Studios. Disney owns Buena Vista, but I guess they couldn't control the price of that show. So, Disney decided the only way to fix the matter was destroy ABC Kids & replace them, to entirely cut out the middleman. Unfortunately for them, whatever contracts were set up regarding the production of Power Rangers in the first place single-handedly kept ABC Kids running until the edge of when streaming services slowly began to rise up as a new market competitor. Ultimately, Litton showed up, subleasing equally cheap educational shows that had an easier time appeasing the FCC & took over almost every single public station, squashing Disney's plan, while the increasing move of audiences towards streaming kind of also made the entire matter obsolete.
Or that the only reason RPM was made simply was because DIsney was filling a contractual obligation to Bandai. Jungle Fury was meant to be the finale season to Power Rangers until that point.
I do remember having to wait through some cruddy Disney channel shows that I wouldn’t watch cause I didn’t care about them on the Disney Channel so wouldn’t care to watch them on abc but would tune in to see the rangers
Thanks for doing this episode. RPM is the best season of the franchise and should be talked about a lot more. This deep dive was top tier. Happy to subscribe.
I remember after Jungle Fury ended having the same issue. Was PR done? Because I hadn’t heard or seen anything about a new season until I randomly saw some episodes and was able to watch a good chunk of the series. It wasn’t till MUCH later when all the series were on Netflix did I finally get to watch RPM from start to finish for the first time
Disney themselves got very quiet with Power Rangers towards the end of their time with it RPM was essentially only made by contractual agreement. Jungle Fury was originally the last series they wanted to make Saban himself after buying the franchise back even said he didn’t feel Disney used the property to its fullest potential
@@HedgeOnStage it’s crazy we almost got robbed of the best season of PR because Disney didn’t care about it at all. They definitely didn’t understand how popular the franchise still was at the time
@@lexsellsmerch3512 I feel as though they did, but as a company it seemed they were walking on eggshells when it came to the complaints, how much money they were making there was a lot of stuff going on at the time it must’ve just been too much. It’s interesting to think about though for sure
Having a ranger question everything around and mention not to be self conscious about anything because how goofy and weird they looked morph and who they are fighting against is probably one of the best idea of a ranger, the one guy who doesn't go along and points out the abnormalities
marketing for power rangers in the disney era was the worst. especially during the breaks. never knew when it was on. was on at like 12pm on Saturdays and never reruns during the week.
it would’ve been interesting , but realistically that’s a lot of money to be poured into a second production as opposed to having someone sit at a computer and edit old episodes They didn’t want to spend money Rangers anymore
ty!! I’m not sure if officially planned but Bandai definitely wanted to make the most out of the toy line if possible considering promotion wasn’t all there
Good timing on this video considering the season's on UA-cam now! I finally watched it recently (as a lifelong Power Rangers fan, might I add) and absolutely loved it.
I can personally attest to not knowing about RPM when it came out. I was in college when it was on, and so TV in general was just not something that I had a ton of time for, but even online, RPM was not even talked about the way Dino Fury was this year. Barely any cast interviews, no fan interaction, and no ads for it on TV. But I managed to catch the episode, "Ranger Green" on Family Channel, which, at the time, was a combination of Nickelodeon and the Disney Channel here in Canada. And, unlike with the seasons prior to RPM, I actually saw the RPM toys at stores around the city. Mostly at Toys 'R' Us, but after MMPR: The Movie came out in 1995 finding Power Rangers toys was hit and miss as to whether stores would even carry them here. RPM just happened to be one of the seasons where the toyline was carried here. And like you, I only discovered just how great RPM is after the Shout! Factory complete season/series DVD sets came out.
MMPR was the only thing from my childhood that was as big a phenomenon as TMNT. People that are younger have no idea how big MMPR was. With that being said I quit watching as I aged out at ab the 3rd season (or which ever season they dropped the original costumes bc they ran out of Sentai footage). About 5 or so years ago I got the urge to check out where the series was & looked up where to start/best seasons & one of them was RPM. After watching RPM & a few other seasons I was honestly shocked by how good RPM was. My current ranking of thos I have watched is: 1. MMPR 9.5/10 For suit & zord designs & heavy nostalgia 2. RPM 9.5/10 For the story. Loses the .5 for having to use extremely goofy Sentai zords. Hate the Megazord. If I'm being honest this series is much better than MMPR, nostalgia feels just can't let this be #1 3. Time Force 9/10 For the story and Villians.
Parents did complain that Power Rangers wasn't educational enough and had too much violence which is why the show had stopped airing Saturday mornings on FOX or ABC. It was on the Disney cable channel and if you didn't have that cable channel, you couldn't watch it
I just looked that up. It's only partly true. There were ABC affiliates that refused to air Power Rangers but, for the most part, it did air on the ABC Kids programming block on Saturday mornings. I know that firsthand, actually. I still remember being confused about it switching from channel 26 (our FOX affiliate) to channel 13 (our ABC affiliate) after Wild Force ended.
Thank you for the "look-back" at this show. It was different and a bit more grounded then previous Power Ranger shows. RPM is definitely a top 5 favorite of mine from Power Rangers.
RPM hands down was one of my favorite seasons, if not outright my favorite one (I fell off at DInocharge onwards... need to catch up). Definitely in the top 5 favorite seasons.
I agree. I feel Power Rangers can learn from Power Rangers RPM. RPM is my number one favorite Power Rangers series because it’s so feel refreshing and aimed for young adults despite being an TV-Y7-FV and this series that is Power Rangers RPM will actually make you forget that this is a kid’s show. This proves that Power Rangers is willing to take more risk of it being more-matured in tone despite being an children’s series. Like from MMPR-Turbo, light-hearted fair enough, In Space, Lost Galaxy, Lightspeed Rescue, Time Force, and Wild Force proves to be a bit more-matured in tone, while the Disney era did try to have an more-matured tone, which is mostly SPD and RPM, with parts being with Jungle Fury in it. This is something that I wish Haim Saban understood that Power Rangers needs to be taken seriously, but make it fun for all ages at the same time, if they wish for Power Rangers to be mainstream. I’m just saying. Power Rangers RPM proves to break that trend and is willing to be different compared to any Power Rangers series, which I wish that Power Rangers could do that a little bit sooner or later. I’m just saying. I’m not too worried about that! Although, I do give credit in an positive way that Haim Saban did have faith in adapting the Super Sentai series and giving birth to the Power Rangers franchise.
I agree. I also wish that Saban understood that or maybe learning and being influenced from Power Rangers RPM and the best Super Sentai stories in order for Power Rangers doing their own original storylines and being more creative, and being a bit more-matured in tone despite being either TV-PG or TV-Y7. (Which I feel like Power Rangers can maybe benefit with an TV-PG rating despite airing on Fox Kids.) But I understand realistically in an Bussiness perspective, which I won’t go into details. But I’m just saying about Power Rangers, nothing negative towards anyone that is the cast and crew of the series. I respect them all!
I tought it great that the Yellow ranger of RPM went on to do IZombie and the Red Ranger went on to play in Netflix Jessica Jones. I wanted to see more of this if not a new franchise... Disney should sell it off to a company that don't destroy other peoples stuff as they always have.
From what was said, the cast liked the vision Eddie had b4 Judd came and took over. This season was different from any other season in the past. And when Judd came in, it turn into a traditional Power Rangers series… hell from what was said, the intended final episode RANGER BLACK would have been the darkest Power Rangers episode ever… with Dillon being a falsehood the whole time and Venjix would have took over Dillon body which would lead the Rangers killing him in the process…
I can’t believe I forgot to mention the Ranger Black idea, they would’ve really pushed things over the edge with that And I woulda been HERE FOR IT LOL
RPM has one of the most fascinating stories and I only watch it when they put it on Netflix like in 2014. I almost binge it at how refreshing was watching a serious kind of adult story of Power Ranger. Definitely in my top PR shows. I love the Green Ranger and the Doctor relationship and years later I discover they actually married in real life which is awesome.
This is sooo good! I love this. I think Disney had the best run with the Rangers. I was growing out of PR when RPM came on, but I rewatched all the disney ones and Light speed when i got netfliX. I hope the new show they are making has more of a serous vibe cause when i tried watching PR samurai when i got older it was bad due to the actor or red, and just the annoyance of the green ranger. I think they are taking more of a kid approach now cause even the ones after samurai it just seemed like they don't care about the production anymore. Who ever has control now does not put as much into bad guy costume designers as they used to. The only other thing is PR samurai and Dino charge had the 2 hottest pink rangers i had ever seen on the show, besides AJJ.
As a fan since the original series, RPM ended up being my favorite season back when it aired. The self-awareness was a breath of fresh air, and it was all really well-executed. It was also my final season. Tried an episode here and there after Saban bought the franchise back, but I never really found it engaging again. It's certainly a "me" thing, though. I've barely been able to get into any Kamen Rider shows after Fourze either, and on the Super Sentai side I've only ever finished Gokaiger and Kyoryuger.
Using Sonic Colors music because Wisps use Hyper GO-ON Energy? I see ya. It's all Toku anyway, since the JP belt voice from Kamen Rider W was the announcer voice in Colors.
LOL YOU ALRADY KNOW (don’t know if you know this, if you look on the channel, just two vids before this one I covered the Sonic Colors/Kamen Rider W situation ~~~~~)
RPM made an impact on me, i love dark stories, but I still dont know how so popular show cannot have better suit design, better zord design, and less toy looking weapons :D Still nice that the creator made fun of this in the show and made it more serious. The argument that its to much violence? i lought... I was rised on action cartoons and comics and Mortal Kombat :D I dont get how this show is to much violence :D
I wish that Disney would've stayed and produced until super megaforce. But Saban made super mega force, the worst season of pr. They just focused on quantity, not quality unlike Disney.
I remember first learning about RPM when samurai had that one special movie when RPM red ranger came into the universe of the samurai team and I have only watched the entire RPM series last week so, I don't really have much experience with the series in terms of childhood.
where did you hear of a plotline with flynn's dad being the original blue ranger? i've never heard about this :o. and i feel the "little character interaction" you mention after the switch in showrunners isn't quite true, we have episodes delving specifically into the interaction between dr k and ziggy, and with dillon and tenya, and we even have great scenes fleshing out dr. k and colonel truman in the episode you solely mentioned was focused on introducing new zords. even the episodes about gem and scott as well as gemma and flynn were made during lynn's time in charge. i'm also surprised you didn't mention the ranger black episode, which was rumored to be have guzelian's planned finale.
You misinterpreted “little character interaction” as ‘every episode after Eddie was gone has little character interaction’. I never said there weren’t great episodes after. I said there were episodes , with little character interaction definitively after the switch. RPM is my favorite season behind Dino Thunder, your opinions are not guaranteed to be the same as mine.
@@HedgeOnStage i respect your opinion, rpm isn't even in my top 3 lol. just looked back and i see you said "a certain set", i thought you said "the set"-my mistake. still, i am curious about the flynn story, do you have more information on it?
@@nickxcx for that I mainly meant that it was a potential point they could bring back up again but I could’ve sworn one of the actors (most likely Ari) mentioned it once in a panel or elsewhere before
I had the same experience with RPM, went to target when I was around 7 and saw this brand new Power Ranger toys, ended up with the green and black morpher, but never watched the show until I was older.
Like you, I also missed RPM during its original run(prior to Samurai the last series I watched was Jungle Fury, and even then I only ever watched a couple episodes because of how they would air it early in the morning.)and only watched many years later. It's definitely my favorite Disney era series and my favorite of the franchise vin general. This video does a good job illustrating how baffling Disney's treatment of the franchise was in retrospect, especially given how they're hellbent on milking the MCU(another long running superhero franchise) as much as possible.
I saw it once and only once. Saw the sliver and gold rangers at 6 am scribbling with crayons and did not see enough to understand what I was looking at
It's funny that this happen like this to RPM.. Simmerly something like this happened to Kamen Rider Hibiki where they changed the creative director towards the end and you can clearly see it changed for the worst. it was soo bad that Toei only ended up making up for it during the KR Decade Episode of Hibiki. People in control really don't care most of the time.
This just adds more fuel on why I hate Disney as a whole , especially todays Disney but looks like they were franchise killers long before Marvel and Star Wars. I watched Power Rangers since the beginning of MMPR as a kid to Mystic Force. I ended it at Mystic Force cause that show just had all the elements of my childhood in one. It reminded me so much of Young Hercules, Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog , Harry Potter and more. I came back to check out RPM and my god that show was amazing, I kept tabs on Operation Overdrive and Jungle Fury but it never held me. RPM was just a whole other show in general, and its one of my fav series next to In Space, Time Force, Wild Force , Mystic Force. PR was suppose to end when In Space was around, maybe going forward they should say PR is ending every season so we can get actual good seasons again cause ever since Samurai came out and then they started skipping some sentai, its been downhill since. Jungle Fury is okay, I havent finished but the stuff I hear about Cosmic Fury, not even adapting the suits of Kyuranger and it only being 10 episodes long, seems like they have no idea what they hell they are doing. Could care less about the Netflix series, and I dont like Hasbro. I just went and rebought my favorite seasons on DVD thanks to Shout Factory. Im content that what I grew up with in the 90s to early 2000s, cause all my franchises today, is dogwater.
Surprised you didn't mention the scrapped original ending, titled "Ranger Black", where it turned out Dillon was a new body for Venjix all along, and their final mission was to stop/destroy their beloved teammate.
What makes the RPM great though are their characters and the stories despite not having the traditional practices of the power rangers franchise (battlizer, super forms, cycles and some other gears) I was greatly entertain. What I don't like about RPM is their zords and megazords because of their designs and for me was the worst of all in 2000s but it was the 1st Robot combination with 12 zords or 4 megazord combination beating the Power Ranger Ninja Storm Hurricane Ultrazord (unless your not counting the minizords) that was only thing that amazes me.
Amazing video Hedge. This was an absolute treat to watch, and I learned some things I still didn't know on stuff with Disney, Bandai, and the writers. There actually was one pseudo-Behind the Scenes episode prior to this. When the Pilot (Lost) Episode of MMPR aired, we got some Behind the Scenes commentary and details from ASJ and Walter Jones.
I started watching Power Rangers in 1st grade, this season aired when I was in 12th grade, so I graduated High School with the season meant to end the franchise.
RPM was differend but i think, they didnt got full potencial of this series. Ziggy's thread from zero to hero could be developed, action between Dillon and Teyana could happen ealier (maybe Teyana could became ranger also), there was some possibilities, there was some options they could make better, despite it was good series. In Poland we remind this series very well since it appeare in June 2010.

It did aired on Disney XD in India and other countries Karmen Rider Dragon! I remember recalling this Japanese Sentai!
Unfortunately, ABC often pre-empted it with sports programming.
they treated it so dirty with its airing for sure
Coupled that with local news which many stations added for weekend mornings in the 2K's.
I remember all the power ranger shows were last to air. I remember SPD being at like 11 am.
@@HedgeOnStage it was in the era of morning cartoons on the way out.
That's the main reason I stopped watching RPM.
RPM was such an amazing series, it's such a shame there were so many issues with the production of the series.
It would’ve been such an amazing opportunity and feat…
Funny how they only make good seasons when they think it's the last one haha
TBH LOL
honestly i think they're trying to go out with a bang
And now we see why RPM was the best of the series, because oh . . . writers were allowed to actually be creative and not do stupid gags that made it seem like the show needed to be dumbed down. Hopefully Hasbro/Netflix considers doing this going forward themselves.
Even today, the show is still filmed in New Zealand. It was moved there because labor costs were cheaper than in California
Like with In Space, they went all out believing it was the end. And in my opinion, RPM is the best season and may never be topped.
I think Disney reediting someone else's work (Sabans MMPR) is extremely disrespectful. Glad Saban bought it back and now Hasbro
from a business standpoint they had to get something out that year bc of their deal wit Bandai and we’re not going to produce a new series, so I get it in that aspect
it’s just tht it ended up bein garbage lollll
sense super sentai has ended Hasbro has no idea what to do with it.
Saban power rangers hasnt been good since Wild Force. Neo saban is a joke
The main thing that makes me enjoy PR as an adult, is the behind the scenes. RPM has by far the most unique production history in the franchise.
Disney foolishly set aside a gold mine.
oh man linear ranger… that name takes me back
Actually the rangers also aired at noon Saturdays on abc that’s where I watched the Disney era of the show it would get preempted occasionally due to some college football games having noon start times but that’s where I normally watch the show
And u don't think anyone else did the same. Weirdo
You're not the 1st person to speak about the RPM problems but the weirdest is that some people in the Disney era of Power Rangers wanted it to be animated, so we could have gotten RPM as an animated version with in the Disney Era.
animated Rangers is still a yucky idea to me lolll, but it’ll prolly happen sooner or later
I have actually heard Power Rangers are currently working on an animated series
@@Master-Works yeah cause they now can use the image of Jason David Frank without problems 😶🌫️
The fact that this season not only was completed, but was hella good is wild

I feel like Power Rangers Dino Charge should have been the final season of Power Rangers.
So many people overlook this season, but this will be a special season and I appreciate it for being so different
for sure for sure , an absolute must-watch
Ultimately, Litton showed up, subleasing equally cheap educational shows that had an easier time appeasing the FCC & took over almost every single public station, squashing Disney's plan, while the increasing move of audiences towards streaming kind of also made the entire matter obsolete.
insanely insightful, thank you for this information!!

It wasn’t till MUCH later when all the series were on Netflix did I finally get to watch RPM from start to finish for the first time
Disney themselves got very quiet with Power Rangers towards the end of their time with it
RPM was essentially only made by contractual agreement. Jungle Fury was originally the last series they wanted to make
Saban himself after buying the franchise back even said he didn’t feel Disney used the property to its fullest potential
@@HedgeOnStage it’s crazy we almost got robbed of the best season of PR because Disney didn’t care about it at all. They definitely didn’t understand how popular the franchise still was at the time

Disney should've added a season 2 for RPM or done Samurai instead of re-editing MMPR if they had a honor a deal with Bandai.

Factory complete season/series DVD sets came out.
thank you for sharing!!
@@HedgeOnStage You're welcome. Late Disney era Power Rangers was a big frustration given how well it started with Ninja Storm, Dino Thunder and SPD.

LMAOOO CRAZY
MMPR was the only thing from my childhood that was as big a phenomenon as TMNT. People that are younger have no idea how big MMPR was. With that being said I quit watching as I aged out at ab the 3rd season (or which ever season they dropped the original costumes bc they ran out of Sentai footage).
About 5 or so years ago I got the urge to check out where the series was & looked up where to start/best seasons & one of them was RPM. After watching RPM & a few other seasons I was honestly shocked by how good RPM was.
My current ranking of thos I have watched is:
1. MMPR 9.5/10 For suit & zord designs & heavy nostalgia
2. RPM 9.5/10 For the story. Loses the .5 for having to use extremely goofy Sentai zords. Hate the Megazord. If I'm being honest this series is much better than MMPR, nostalgia feels just can't let this be #1
3. Time Force 9/10 For the story and Villians.
most say the first 3 where the best maybe zero to but the time trubo came around i think most older fans where done.
Ngl, I would have gone with Goo-zelian...
Totally forgot that the zombie and princess girls were in RPM!
Tenaya was basically astronema in that sense with the evil sister thing but way different and cool
Fun fact the yellow rpm ranger went on to play the main character liv in Izombie
Loved that Show.
Same but the liv major romance annoys the heck outta me
From what was said, the cast liked the vision Eddie had b4 Judd came and took over.
I can’t believe I forgot to mention the Ranger Black idea, they would’ve really pushed things over the edge with that
And I woulda been HERE FOR IT LOL
RPM has one of the most fascinating stories and I only watch it when they put it on Netflix like in 2014. I almost binge it at how refreshing was watching a serious kind of adult story of Power Ranger. Definitely in my top PR shows. I love the Green Ranger and the Doctor relationship and years later I discover they actually married in real life which is awesome.
Fun fact, Dan from game grunps, his band, put a song together for this season, it wasnt pick but still kinda cool
Red ranger from RPM was a main character in Netflix Jessica Jones...that was a come up lol
I swear loll
Jungle Fury Geki Chopper is one of the Russian mobsters in Daredevil
Saban should have kept that ball rolling when they bought the franchise back. That was one of the best seasons ever.
I knew Eka Darville he was a star in Jessica Jones in Disney+ orginial series!

I got to say can you imagine, @8:15 if he just busted out with fluent asl?
RPM made an impact on me, i love dark stories, but I still dont know how so popular show cannot have better suit design, better zord design, and less toy looking weapons :D Still nice that the creator made fun of this in the show and made it more serious. The argument that its to much violence? i lought... I was rised on action cartoons and comics and Mortal Kombat :D I dont get how this show is to much violence :D
I wish that Disney would've stayed and produced until super megaforce. But Saban made super mega force, the worst season of pr. They just focused on quantity, not quality unlike Disney.

also kinda crushed on Feedback Olivia Tennet (Dr. K). she is so dang cute.
where did you hear of a plotline with flynn's dad being the original blue ranger? i've never heard about this :o. and i feel the "little character interaction" you mention after the switch in showrunners isn't quite true, we have episodes delving specifically into the interaction between dr k and ziggy, and with dillon and tenya, and we even have great scenes fleshing out dr. k and colonel truman in the episode you solely mentioned was focused on introducing new zords. even the episodes about gem and scott as well as gemma and flynn were made during lynn's time in charge. i'm also surprised you didn't mention the ranger black episode, which was rumored to be have guzelian's planned finale.
You misinterpreted “little character interaction” as ‘every episode after Eddie was gone has little character interaction’. I never said there weren’t great episodes after. I said there were episodes , with little character interaction definitively after the switch.

Out of all the seasons RPM is overall the darkest since all the other seasons were lighthearted but have some dark moments.
This is actually one of my favorite seasons
Rpm and Dino thunder are my “perfect” seasons I see no flaws with them, the rpm demo theme is my favourite ( not anime) theme song of all time
GOOD TASTE
@@HedgeOnStage the Demo theme themes slap
@@HedgeOnStage RPM and Time Force are great seasons.
7:40 that explains the scottish meme with Flint lol
I think it's pronounced "Goo-zay-lee-en".
ty!!!
Sounds like a Character from Power Rangers.
The Evil Commander Gozalien Has Threatened The Earth !
I saw it once and only once. Saw the sliver and gold rangers at 6 am scribbling with crayons and did not see enough to understand what I was looking at
Flynn: I'M SCOTTISH!!
What’s you deal
Rpm blue: IM SCOTTISH!!!
No wonder the advertising and commercials for Jungle Fury were such a big deal, cuz it was going to be the last…
it’s like they went out with jazz hands and the curtains closing, just to come back and throw something on stage after the audience left 💀
My favorites will always be dino thunder, SPD, ninja storm, jungle fury, samurai and RPM
the backround music sounds just like the music in a sonic game i played a long time ago from Sonic Colours
that’s bc it is lol
Im content that what I grew up with in the 90s to early 2000s, cause all my franchises today, is dogwater.
aw man I’m sorry to hear that
sometimes it’s best when we can stick to what we love
Surprised you didn't mention the scrapped original ending, titled "Ranger Black", where it turned out Dillon was a new body for Venjix all along, and their final mission was to stop/destroy their beloved teammate.
I actually liked rpm but after it just went bad
I Heard that the house of mouse is thinking of buying ips, such as, POWERRANGERS, TRANSFORMERS, CANDYLAND, JAME BOND etc.
there is no way Disney is buying Power Rangers again they very much sold it back for a reason lolll
I knew something was off, Temaya was to be Ranger Orange, Series 6..
Hot take: rpm is overrated, and I don’t care about it.
Fight me.
A Power Rangers that does its' own thing (footage ect)? I'm sold.

Sweet home Alabama
Best season ever made
I started watching Power Rangers in 1st grade, this season aired when I was in 12th grade, so I graduated High School with the season meant to end the franchise.
