I’ll say this. I basically made a rustler ultimate over my time with a classic vxl 4x4 and LOVE it. Perfect level of speed, durability, jumps well, handles well, cheap to fix, you name it. It’s awesome. I crawl much more than I bash but the rustlers are awesome. If it’s your first basher or you’re looking for another basher to add to the fleet, this is a great option.
My first rc was the rustler 4x4 vxl. It eats driveshafts which is the only con. I have bought many more other rc’s since then so it’s a shelf queen nowadays. 😂
I picked up the Rustler Ultimate a couple months back and it’s great. However, it’s absurd they don’t include the two cooling fans as part of the “Ultimate” upgrades. A real missed opportunity.
I agree wholeheartedly, this is an excellent beginner car. I wish Traxxas offered more kits. That is the best way to learn the ins and outs of maintaining your car. Sadly, Traxxas discontinued the Stampede 4x4 kit, which I get as the new Stampede has debuted.
I started with a Drag Slash and then a 2wd VXL Slash and now Im on Xmaxx and XRT also a couple TRX4 Ive had good experiences with customer service So Im happy with my Traxxas 🤙
got a rustler 4x4 bl2s for my first "real" RC car. Did the VXL 3S upgrade after the first battery pack lol. it is a handful but man I am suprised the beating it has taken. The body looks horrible now but it has taken some HUGE cringy hits and doesnt skip a beat. the rear diff needs some mods to be me more durable, but otherwise I have no complaints with it.
Just ordered a rustler ultimate to bash, my niece graduated from the associated dr28 to a losi jrxt i gave her, so i needed something to bash outside with her. Next day update: Rustler ultimate is freakin insane even on 2s, those shocks are amazing…
Idk if I would recommend a 4x4 as someone’s first rc, it’s more maintenance in a new world that can be a lot for new guys. I would tell them to start with a 2wd myslef🤷♂️

I completely agree that Rustler is the absolute best first choice overall of any manufacturer ...Traxxas is simply the Best overall manufacture of RC today!!!

Community support is so abundant for the 4x4 rustler/stampede/slash/hoss/Raptor r because it's a 30 year old design that they refuse to sell as an affordable priced roller or a complete ultimate package. The ultimate versions lack a center diff and the new extreme heavy duty axles and bearings kit. It would cost you over 600$cad to upgrade an old 4x4 chassis to be like the bl2s and that doesn't include electronics! That does however include a center diff upgrade which is the most expensive center diff that traxxas sells unfortunately. Crazy.
If you could only have one or the other. Would you pick the new stampede 4x4 vxl or the rustler 4x4 vxl. I am on the fence about getting one of the two and would love your opinion. I just cannot decide lol. Both are great options.
Best first rc car is something your local hobbyshop carries parts for. nothing more frustrating for someone with their first car than breaking something and having to order a part and wait a week to get it.

only thing i dont particularly like about traxxis is their pricing (and their ugly looking remotes) i feel like this thing would be stupidly good at $350 and would make it much more competitive with arrma's 3s lineup
Amen. Traxxas is the bottom of the barrel hobby grade RC. They won't even sell roller chassis individually. But they charge professional race grade chassis prices.
I honestly think traxxas cars arent the best cars to buy because down the line , if you decide to get other brands . You'll have to get basically buy new electronics cause traxxas lock you in with their battery connectors (with the built in balance plugs ) . Traxxas stuff isnt standard to other brands using ec5,ic5 connectors . They try and lock you into traxxas stuff . I got so much traxxas stuff that just sits and collect dust .
This has nothing to do with the video other than you saying that you dont use your cars. Switch the connector plug like everyone else and move on seriously.

That's because Traxxas isn't interested in your cheap Chinese batteries and they don't want their customers to burn their house down, hence the ID connectors.
The rustler is trash honestly a vxl to a ultimate with plastic still for an extra 100 same system is all kinda trash this was just a promo video yes for a kid this is good rc but if you want less maintenance less headache get a 3s from the arrma line for a good 30 foot bashing there m2c upgrades for those not these
I keep listening to the video and im legit rolling on my chair. This thing is an absolute junk rc car. That car made me depressed, kept burning money wishing every run the axles wont break.. i kept seeing the u join stretching until they broke one by one. The feeling of hopelessness. it broke an axle every single 3 packs running on flat ground. Countless of pairs i broke, how many times i lost the shock perches and popped the aluminum caps i installed in day 1. I can legit write a book on this truck. I never bashed it after my first ever jump i did with it. Because I learned it couldnt take it. Flat ground on concrete and short grass and it would fall apart by itself anyway. I like You mark as a content creator about RC but i cant remain silent on this one. I doubt they made such massive changes other than improving the axles for the 3rd time now to make the truck go from absolutly bad to great.
Omg. This was my first rc car... and it was the absolute WORST RC i ever owned. Paid 400$ For it. In a nutshell the issues with the car i had was the wheelie bar, shocks, esc, motor, servo, steering system, AXLES and tires. Pretty much all of the car was a dumpster fire. It couldnt even jump because the throttle was 50/50 by default. First jump i landed slightly to the right and the arm pulled away. Changed te arms to rpm and they also broke in the smallests of tumbles, after that i broke 4 pairs of axles in the rear and 1 pair in the front for no reason in tumbles. I decided to just get rid of it. Because i wasnt willing to invest 400$ on a 3s truck that is overpriced to begin with and you get dont get ur money’s worth. They updated the axles now on it.. its like the 3rd time they updated their axles. At the time the axle tire side was 8$ a piece And 12$ for the ones that connect to the diffs. Esc and motor overheated non stop, very slow at 42mph with stock pinion. The esc started to fail and there was 0 warranty. Wanted me to ship it at my expense to them and they would judge if they would warranty or not for half price. Pretty much the middle finger. Compared to horizon they remplaced 2 escs, 2 motors and non warranty parts that they decided to warranty for some weird reason. 2 yr warranty on all the electronics and any default like an unglued tire in the first runs. I sold the truck for absoltely nothing. Bought the kraton 4s the original after that. Also for 400$... first days on my jumping spot where the rustler failed.. first jump, i land it... i then land my first backflip, my first front flip.. full speed sends at 50mph at an insane height, the insane adrenaline rush and joy i felt... car had its issues but the performance made it worth fixing and upgrading and gaining experience. Im not the only one who felt absolutely robbed for going for a traxxas 3s as first rc. I know you love traxxas. But these trucks are not for beginners. I could arguably also say for the 3s arrmas because of the clutch. I really find the traxxas 3s trucks to be insanely predatory to beginners. Because of the marketting and brand name. What had me was the name and the insane speed of 65mph on the box. Then you learn you need to buy parts to reach that speed, add fans and stuff. While other brands its just a simple pinion.
This looks cool and all, but I don't get how they just keep re-hashing the same old cars by slapping some different parts in it, changing the body livery, and then call it new. It's not new, it's just a different version of the same thing! And it's not just Traxxas, although they probably do it more than any other company. I just wish RC companies would just come out with actual "New" models. Not the same model with some different upgrades. I mean, we can buy it, and make the same upgrades. That doesn't make it new....smh

put some washers between the body and mount system. spaces out the front makes it much easier to get off

This vs the ultimate?
The ultimate most of the aluminum upgrades, and it has the tqi module and has the belted tires from the XRT

Ever taken a look at arrma? Like 5 to 6 different versions of the Kraton. Yeah okay it’s every manufacturer
