Years ago, I was one of those women in a homeless shelter. I recall when rich women would come by as ' humanitarians'..... did they bring money to help us out of our situations? NO.... did they offer any of us a job at one of their many businesses they owned? NO. Did they bring us second-hand designer clothes? NO.... We HATED when these women came by in their finery. We knew they were there for 1 reason & 1 only. Slumming. To show their social circles that they 'cared'. Meanwhile, we were paraded out for these women and made to feel like shit.
I have no doubt that felt dehumanizing. That kind of treatment doesn't lift people up when they are down.

Why would any charity let them come by knowing the outcome? If the charity got publicity it was probably more the the self-centered self-important women.

@Martina I agree. This type of behavior with charities has been a sore spot with me ever since. All I could see was those women when I saw Meghan. They give money to the charity. But that doesn't help the women out of the situation they are in. What the women need are job/school opportunities . But they rarely get that. At least not in my experience.

The PR, humanitarian act she pulled in Rwanda is sickening to me. I was a little girl when the Rwandan civil war took place. Almost an entire tribe of people was eradicated. I remember seeing the pictures and videos rivers/trenches full to the brim with the dead. It was a genocide and I can't imagine the impact it had on future generations. To go there and strut around like your Lord Muck of Turd Hill is out of touch, and imo, a low-brow thing to do.

I’ve done a lot of volunteer work with the homeless in a few cities and everyone knows to ‘dress down’ as much as possible. To ‘dress up’ is a very strange thing to do. Especially with over the top designer clothes that very few folks (including myself) could afford. 🤷♀️

And leave the jewelry in the designer bag in the car too. Especially in Meghan’s case where she’s got staff with her. Someone could surely help her manage that and keep an eye on everything.
Or better yet, explain to the people at the meeting that you’re dressed down because you just came from a homeless shelter. That would be completely understandable.

I am legal adviser for the child protection and social services. My office is in the same building with all of the other departments. I don't usualy meet with beneficiaries, but still, I may pass by them downstairs, in the hallways. That being said, I love fashion and unfortunately I am a sucker for certain designer items. Still, I would never ever wear a designer item at work. I don't even wear my engagement ring- I think it's too flashy and there is no need to accidentaly flaunt it in front of people who financialy struggle in life. The thought of it makes me cringe. This woman has no shame.

King Charles, when he was the Prince of Wales, paid for Catherine's and M's dresses. Catherine would often wear £200 dresses from a High Street chain; she still does. The bill for M's dresses came to more than the dress bills for all the European Royal ladies put together. The woman was born with a major sense of crass entitlement.

Meghan acts like "new money," and she has a need to remind others of how rich and important she thinks she is. "Old money" is different. I am a personal assistant to a very wealthy woman with a last name who is very impressive and nationally recognized. I have learned a lot from her. First of all, one dresses for the occasion. Out and about without knowing her last name, you would not know her wealth from her clothes and jewelry. We have shopped at Target as well as the high-end designer stores here in Dallas. She doesn't dress up for eithe, though she always looks classy.She has fabulous jewelry, but most stays at the bank except on very special occasions. What has impressed me the most about her is not her money and social position, but it's how she treats everybody from her gardeners to the rest of her housekeeping team. I think most people are like me when it comes to respect. We give it to those who treat others well. Meghan isn't likable because she treats people like dirt. She is not someone that can be respected.

Mostly likely it is their posture, confidence and attitude in life. They are the center of attention in a good way because they uplift anyone around them. Actually, when I saw MM's photo op in Rwanda, I thought of AJ. And that was part of my disdain for Meghan because I had already judged AJ as a fake, too, in her humanitarian work. AJ was just copying Audrey Hepburn. A woman who actually lived through horror and nearly starved to death. A woman who was probably plagued in life with survivor's guilt and hence her true compassion and dedication to help where she could. That's just my take, anyway.

When I was a teenager, our school organised a charity event for an orphanage. We were clearly advised by the school to dress as simple as possible. The weirdest part to me will always be she's only ever photographed with her assistants. No bodyguards unless its a big event, no husband, no mom, no kids, only ever walking around a few steps ahead of whoever's with her in order to ensure they don't id don't know...talk? For a woman who claims to want to be relatable, caring/compassionate and inspiring all while fearing for her safety she has a weird way of doing it. If she truly cared about helping others in a selfless way she wouldn't feel the need to always do it publicly. She would simply do the work and be happy that she gets to help other people, but i think she just wants to make herself look better in the public eye.
