They are face scanned, all their movements/animations are also scanned, there was not a lot of animation going on. There was no face/body modeling going on by the tech team either, these were scanned too. You can watch it behind the scenes.
Yeah, it's scary cuz in the game it's like a real person being killed, also they can't just create a random face because it's too difficult, on top of that to get the right sort of facial movements they need to film the actors the selves then put that in computer and work from that so it's realistic :)
