Thesis Writing for Higher Degree by Research

This webinar covers the most important topic and provides constructive guidelines. The following Sub-themes are covered:
Sub-themes: Exploring research ideas (topic selection, where to get ideas from, supervisor’s research interest, hot journal topics, repetition), research contribution (body of academic knowledge, real-world), literature review (selecting key articles, structure), theory (the “P” in PhD, narratives, hypotheses), data and methodology (selecting an appropriate data set, robustness, endogeneity), presenting results (paint a picture, economic or statistical significance, no evidence is not evidence against, tables), conclusion & policy implications/real-world relevance, appendix, references, number of pages, the importance of clarity, the importance of writing clearly and succinctly, etc.

Prof. Peter Verhoeven
Prof. Peter is the Associate Professor of Finance at School of Economics and Finance, Queensland University of Technology, Australia since August 2008. He holds a Bachelor (Honours) of Chemical Engineering and a PhD in Financial Econometrics from the University of Western Australia. His primary research interests are Risk Analysis, Corporate Finance, Corporate Governance, Sustainability, Banking, Fund Management, and Trading Strategies. He has taught Corporate Finance, Risk Analysis, Banking, Investments, and Valuation courses at graduate, postgraduate and executive levels and has taught extensively in Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, India, Singapore, and Malaysia. He has supervised in excess of 70 postgraduates (Masters and PhD) dissertations and has been recognized for his high-quality supervision and mentoring. He has published in top tier journals like Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Construction Engineering and Management, Journal of Portfolio Management, Pacific-Basin Finance Journal, Accounting and Finance, Journal of Business Ethics, International Review of Finance, Australian Journal of Management, Quantitative Finance, Journal of Risk, etc. He has refereed for many reputed international research journals, some of which are Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Applied Econometrics etc. He has participated in several conferences as a session chair, discussant and presenter.
