Here's one more thing about the 'Kukur Tihar' (dog festival) worshipped in Diwali (Tihar). Kukur or Dog is considered as the vehicle or chariot of Bhairava. It is believed that, in folk tales, that it was Kaal Bhairav, one of the eight among Astha Bhairavas, that in ancient times, it was Lord Bhairav who brought a wild wolf or fox home and domesticated it. And that's how it became a friend of Kaal Bhairav and they can see what human eyes can't see. So, there are plenty of stories behind why dogs are worshipped and this is one of them because it is connected with Lord Bhairav.

Many liberals want to deny the historicity of Ramayan, well, your opinion but how do you bring harmony among people of a region so diverse, you go 50km away and you have a completely different ethnicity living, if it wasn't for Ramayana there would have been so much unrest and disagreements between different ethnic groups but because they all have Ramayana as a glue that binds them together we live so much harmoniously.
