    The newbie lieutenant Jones that’s fresh out of West Point and goes on the patrol across that river is Tom Hanks son in real life. He’s a good actor

    Btw that scene where Spiers ran through the Germans wasn't just a Hollywood added part of the show, he actually did that

    Lt. Jones was promoted to 1st Lieutenant and moved up to regimental staff after just one mission because he was part of the Regular Army who would be needed to staff the army after the war when all the volunteers were discharged so they wanted to keep those men safer. He was part of the occupation forces in Germany but sadly was killed in a car accident when he was only 23.

    I like the fade out of the killed and wounded soldiers in the church at the end of Episode 7, mainly for the call out of their names, so that we can spend a few seconds mourning these heroes. Some reviewers called it cheesy or not in keeping with the production’s high standards. If you ever get to Luxembourg, a number of Easy’s men killed during the Battle of the Bulge are buried at the American Cemetery there. I hope to visit soon.

    My grandfather was in Europe working in ordnance in the Army and he went through a couple of those shellings while tucked in a foxhole. He remembered hearing guys in other foxholes crying for their mothers during the bombardments and that the experience was frightening. He had already accepted whatever happened would happen but he survived it all.

      I had a grandfather who drove ordnance around in the army, when they were shelled/bombed they would stop and dive under their trucks. Which would give better protection from random shrapnel than just diving some random spot on the ground, and assurance if it was a direct hit you would not be in pain long.

    As a South Philadelphian who has had the pleasure of meeting both Babe and Wild Bill many times, the accent by Bill's actor is horrible. Sounds nothing like us. The kid who played Babe on the other hand nailed it. I'm guessing he's a foreign actor because of the skill. Other guy thought he was at his Sopranos audition.

    The distance Spiers ran in real life was actually quite a lot further than what they depicted in the show. They cut it down for the show to make it fit, and make it more believable.

    Jackson hadn't been featured previously in the series. It's well worth watching 'Episode 11' - the accompanying documentary - after you finish the series, even if it's just for your information or entertainment. If you're interested in the filming aspects of a documentary, it would be great to see your reaction to that also. It's mostly made up of extended interviews with the veterans. There is also a 'making of' which details the explosions in the woods.

    The drunk soldier, Cobb, ended up court-martialed out of the service after Hagenau. Not for what we see, but for starting a fight with an officer while drunk. He had served in Africa before joining the Paratroopers. From what I have read, the Allied soldiers must have drunk Europe dry during their time there. Sometimes they had to because drinkable water was hard to find.

    • @emil87th
      @emil87th Рік тому

      You can actually see Cobb in the back of a military-police jeep at the end of the episode when Webster gets helped up into the truck!

  • @SnowmanTF2

    From what I understood from the episode, the guy who threw the grenade and ran in too early was the same guy who asked to go on the mission because up to this point he had just been working with supplies, and felt he had not actually done anything in the war. So the reason he did that was just inexperience.

    • @emil87th
      @emil87th Рік тому

      Nah, the guy that asks to go on the mission is the guy freaking out and trying to kill the german POW at the end.
      Jackson has been a minor character with I think no lines spoken, but referenced a few times. Young kid, replacement if I remember correctly.
      He probably tunnel-visioned hard, which is why when I did my military service we always counted "one-thousand, two-thousand, three-thousand, four-thousand" when throwing grenades to ensure that we wouldn't pop our heads up too early and get it blown off.

    Commenting as we go along. Some people say Lt. Dyke was not portrayed fairly. He received a wound at Foy and was in shock while trying to lead the men. He received medals for his actions during the Market Garden campaign. Supposedly the book’s writer was heavily influenced by Winters’ and Lipton’s dislike of him; which is what counts I guess.

    • @przemekkozlowski7835
      @przemekkozlowski7835 3 роки тому +2

      Dyke's record seems to point to someone who could lead under fire and had lots of personal courage. However, he clearly was not the right leader for Easy Company at Bastogne. He seems to had a tendency to over-delegate to Lipton and the platoon leaders which made him invisible to the enlisted men and tanked morale. A unit like Easy needed a more proactive leader like Winters, Lipton or Spiers.

    Sound levels feel a bit challenging. Commentating voice relatively low and episode volume high. So when you want to hear what talking you need to have audio high. With home teather episodes sounds hit the roof. All the time dropping volume when loud parts in the episode.
