This might be the best video I've seen you guys do. Amazing to see how things change through the years head to head. Might make me question changing WITB but really helps reinforce making smart, educated changes versus changing for the new shiny toy. Another reason to get fit - maybe WITB already working great and just needs a few tweaks. Can't wait for the other brands through the years but happy you started with TM!
Especially because second-hand clubs are so accessible nowadays. Nearly every club just one model/2 years old is half the price of a new one and you can usually get length, lie, and grip modifications for cheap too when you purchase them online.
Now that we're later in the year, I can comment on one thing the stealth 2 really struggles with. I work in a golf store and I've had to send about 2 stealth 2 drivers per week back for warranty because either the face pops off, the crown pops off, or the sole bit breaks. Like SO many more stealth 2's than anything else gets sent back. It's a great performing driver, it just falls apart.
This has to be one major advantage callaway has in the used market. Public just doesn’t trust durability of carbon face and being honest I think the real reason that Taylormade switched isn’t performance based but that they knew once manufacturing was nailed down carbon is probably cheaper than titanium to manufacture.
Still have the OG Sim and have never even thought about changing. As you guys said, it is one of the best looking drivers ever made and performance is top notch still. Great video
I'd love to see the Mizuno heads tested. A bit like the Titleist story, they have been on a journey, ST190/200/220 & now 230. One of them won the bracket so it would be intriguing to see if the newer ones are even better. I play the 230 and have played all the others. Personal experience says the 230 has definitely upped the ball speed. No data to back that up but on course is a positive. Keep up the good work guys, long time follower, my source for everything technical in equipment. Your UK partner at Precision golf is also putting out good interesting content, very different to yours but interesting.
Great show guys. Previously used the R11S and when the SIM came out, the feedback was extremely positive. I tested it and loved it. I had a unique shaft in the R11S and moved it to the SIM, end result great combo. Within a couple of months, I had to have the SIM 3-wood. I had to locate and purchase a used SIM 3-wood as Taylormade moved on. After using the 3-wood for a couple of rounds, i then modified it but using the SIM Driver shaft, I carry both still today. I really know why Ian whispers to that driver...it is the best.
This was an awesome video, I’ve played the last four generations of Taylor made drivers, and definitely hit. My longest drives back with the original. Sim… I feel like all of the drivers have gotten better with the high toe miss… but the original Sim driver had that big 380. Holy crap ball in it once in a while that you just don’t get with the more forgiving drivers.
As a old dude 71, I enjoy these comparisons. Darn shame you don't have a few old guys hitting drivers and clubs for comparisons. I'm still gaming a Sim. Keep up the good work.
Actually I'd be interested to see the growth of Callaway's AI jailbreak evolvement over the last few iterations of drivers. To see if any of this and where they've tried to change how it pushes the head performance wise. Just like Sim2 seems like it tried to push for more spin to reduce the low spin knucklers that Sim1 brought.
You guys have been crushing the content game recently, This is the kind of stuff we love to see, as well as the fittings with Rocket Ronnie and others etc. Great stuff and THANK YOU!
I was a long time Taylormade consumer. Original SIM was an amazing driver. High launch low spin. Used to play mine down at 7 deg and hit 340 yd bombs all day long. Cracked the face and Taylormade replaced it with the first gen Stealth. Couldn't launch that driver and didn't like the look or feel. Switched to Cobra. Won't go back to Taylormade until they abandon carbon wood face technology. Cobras success in the last few years is a combination of a great product and the misstep of Taylormade with the Stealth. I bet if you ran a poll a lot of people switched from Taylormade to Cobra with the advent of Stealth and carbon wood.
I hate newer clubs. I hit the new clubs way lower and no spin. I went from a 9 to a 12 in 2 years. 2 years in age doesn't make that much difference. I'm 46 and stronger than I was when I was 35. Maybe not as limber.lol
In reply to the convo at 6:15, I bought Stealth+ and got fitted but on course it was awful for me, but a random used Stealth2 Plus up at the range, I was rarely offline with it. I had an OG SIM with an Oban Kiyoshi White on it, and it was a weapon. TSi3 came out, and I got that, but I never got the same feel of that SIM. The Quality Innovation 10 layers of carbon core for more MOI should roll right off the tongue in the shops
Question for the lads, when you originally tried the carbon face did you find you lost feel for the clubface in relation to impact? I have the Stealth 2 plus and often can’t really tell where I catch it on the face
Great video. The og sim is unicorn statin my opinion. I game the TSR3 but man do I still love that SIM. Might have to hit the used rack and pick one up
This video has inspired me to get a Sim driver with a similar counterbalanced shaft only a few months after being custom fit for my TSR3. Will have to wait until spring time to see how it compares to my TSR3 since I’m home recovering from my 2nd hip replacement surgery. Who knows maybe SiM will overtake my TSR3 ! Will be fun comparing them. About 2 years ago I had SIM Max driver but never got on with it.
I'd be interested to see the change in Ping drivers. Don't currently play Ping but I'm wondering if there is much difference in distance on a driver known mostly for forgiveness.
Love it, I still game the RBZ stage 2 in 10 degree (FULLY WHITE) and stock Fujikura regular shaft, with 235m average, and around 75% fairway. My driver headspeed has gone up from 85mph back then (2012) to 95mph now. You reckon I could game a SIM2 in 9 degrees with a stiff shaft?
Thank you for for this video. Have been struggling with too much spin in my stealth driver and recently have completely lost confidence in it. I went to Edwin Watts tonight after watching the this video and found a pre owned SIM gen 1 with the same shaft I play in my stealth driver for $119. Looking forward to testing it out tomorrow on the range.
I tried the Stealth 2 plus driver and for me it was the face and the feel of it. Toe, heel, right in the middle there was no feel, I could not feel where I was striking it. I need that feedback.
Can you test low and pulled back CG with a lower degree head vs. more forward CG and a higher degree head? Would love to see how dynamic loft is effected. Have often wondered if a higher MOI driver with less loft would be effective.
I have a Sim 2 and Ian’s results match mine exactly been struggling with too much height and spin losing yards as I watch I drop out of the sky. With what Ian said about the weight of the Sim 2 head and dynamic loft being added , can I simply adjust my hosle to - 2 degrees to cancel out the flight issues?
Guys, such an insightful stuff, as always, thanks! I would love to see Calaway drivers comparison, starting from „the AI” implementation (Epic Flash) up to now. I still game Epic, found only marginal improvement in distance in Epic Max, haven’t checked the newest lines yet, rather looking for a better play choosing / fitting shafts
I have the original sim and love it. But i didnt know the tm logo was the strike point for nearly a year meaning i hit it off what looks like the middle of the club, (ie more of the toe). Have you come across this before? PS shows how good the driver is with a toe hit
Can you do this with Callaway please! Paradym vs Rogue were identical for me but go back a few more years with the epic ft and even the old x460. I bet the old x460 can keep up with paradym.
Around 5m 30s. The questioning negativity. From those in my circle - felt like marketing fatigue was setting in. Most of the guys had a TaylorMade but the unknown of carbon face and minimal gains from M to SIM (not saying they were right) began jumping to Cobra. PING and Titleist. Very few play TaylorMade anymore. Would like to see the generational comparisons of PING, Titleist and Cobra
This test is interesting. I hated the sound and look of the stealth and stealth 2 but couldn’t get the loft needed from my local fitter in the SIMs which sounded better. Now I play the stealth plus 8* and it’s much more inline with my needs. But it sounds f-ing awful!
I put a sim 9° w/ diamana zf 60-s in play last year. Just shy of 46". Beat driver I've ever owned. Recently removed the sliding weight and replaced the rear weight to a 21gr. Has been phenomenal
Would love to see the Callaway look back to at least the Mavrik sub-zero that I'm still playing. I haven't had any of the newer models out perform this version at least for me.
I would like to see the Cobra models done like this as well. I would also like to see a comparison of universal adapters for metalwoods, the pros and cons if you will.
I absolutely love the SIM Max! I have a standard Stealth 2, but when paired with my Ventus Blue, it is really heavy. Have you noticed the heavy head weight of the Stealth 2?
Still game original SIM, have had both the Stealths and while they are nice. I found that I didn’t give feed back. Something about the SIM just gives off confidence.
Unfortunately for @taylormade they have burnt a whole bunch of customers with the Stealth/Stealth2. For me there is no argument that stealth 2+ was a formidable weapon... "when it worked". The sad truth is that the build quality was far, far, far... far (that's one "far" for each stealth head that taylormade replaced under warranty for me alone in the last 18 months..) less than what was expected from them. There are literally 1000's of posts online showing the carbon face popping out of the heads, so much so that i dont know how many of those players would trust Taylors new head regardless of how it performs in a fitting... For everyone out there who had an issue with the build quality of the carbon face leave a like.
I've still got my trusty mav in the bag 😂 I bought my daughter the Epic Speed, but that's only because it was cheaper than mav at the time. Both were very similar to me.
Bring back the SIM! But one that doesnt break so easily. I guess it applies to golf clubs too - "If its fast, it wont last". I broke (4) 8* heads and unfortunately had to give up on them. Cracks in the weight track on every single one
I still play a Sim 1 and vids like this make me refuse to try anything else. Am now onto my second head and am totally OK with buying a replacement every year. Don't forget the shallower face means DOD and teeing it low are great options for tactical bombs!
For me, the stealth scares me. For no other reason than the carbon face. Coming from a baseball background, I know that carbon has a much shorter lifespan than with metal. I have no doubt that the numbers and ease of use is top tier. But the longevity concerns is what prevents me from spending the money on it. I’m sure it’s my own biases about the tech, but that’s my reasoning.
I know we are committed to carbon faces for the time being. But seeing just how good the stealth plus fairways are and the feel much different from the sim2 ti fairway. I wonder if they ever proto’d a driver at that time in the same style as the stealth plus fairways.
Can you do TS vs TSI vs TSR
Yes please!
Third this!
Skip the 917, throw the 915 in there👍
spoiler alert, theres no real difference, just good marketing like all the manafacturers
Please skip 917. 915 and ts line.
Cobra through the years all the way back to F9 would be a really cool comparison too.
Cobra F9 is one of my favorite drivers ever.....using stealth 2 right now
Would love this as well! I'm still gaming the F9 but have been getting more curious how it compares to the newer models.
Agreed I really want to see that
Would love to see this
Love the idea of the multi generation comparisons
Watching Ian hit the original Sim just always feels right😌

Sim was the best driver TM has ever made. Such a great club, really miss mine 😢

can you bring out a TM M2 from 2016 and compare it with the SIM Max Gen 1?
As a old dude 71, I enjoy these comparisons. Darn shame you don't have a few old guys hitting drivers and clubs for comparisons. I'm still gaming a Sim. Keep up the good work.
Great video. SIM gen 1 is still my gamer driver. I love it.
The banter at the start is the best thing I've seen on this channel haha

340 😂

Saw similar findings when I switched from og sim to stealth 1/2…now gaming g425 lst; great vid guys
I would like to see the same test with with Taylormade 3 woods!
Thank you for the video. It shows/means a lot to us/buyers.
That's brilliant. Please do the same for Titleist drivers. Much appreciated.
Best vid I’ve seen from y’all. Please do more of generation comparisons.
Would have loved to see the OG M2 in this test. In some circles it was considered TM’s finest.
I game the M3 and it's a bomber, best club in my bag. and it's hard to move on from. SIM on a discount is on my radar!
I had the 2016 M2, and I swear it is still the longest driver I ever played

Great content boys! Ian getting comfortable on camera in the bay! Evolution
My 2018 Callaway Rogue driver is competing well with the new guns. Would love to see more generational comparisons. Great vlog gents!
getting a fit for a new shaft for my stealth 2 driver.....Should I try a TSR3 head too?
I pick on a variety of the videos, but giving credit where credit is due, this was a great video. 👍

You could see with stealth 2 it looked a slower smoother swing buy sim you were going after it a bit. What was the swing speeds mate.

the sim had the best feel off the face. I think I'm going back. just looks sooo much nicer then the newer drivers
Seeing Pings from G30 on would be pretty cool.
Sim 2 goated! Makes sense why I reverted back to the sim 2 after both stealths but I needed more spin. Thanks for the video!
I have the stealth plus would it make sense to get the sim 2 max I never had the Sims wonder if it will help my game....
@@antondeklerkdrtony3d412 sim 2 max is a great driver! Can’t go wrong. More spin usually means it’s gonna keep the ball on the planet in most cases.

Great test… little fella seemed to be ramped up with the SIM in his mitts!!!!!
I currently have the Stealth 2 plus but not really a fan of the carbon so my next driver will be Titanium... edging towards the new Cobra LS...

Love the sim gen 1 plus. Best driver ever.
definitely a little skewed by getting loose after many driver swings, but that sim looked mega comfy 💪
Love it, I would like to see Titleist next.
They’ve been doing a similar pattern since SLDR. Low spin head. Second gen slightly higher spin. Then new gen back to lower spin
Titleist, Ping, Cobra, Callaway ... would all be great to see.
i wanna se the c16 from titleist, as well as the cobra line up
This is an awesome video. I love this stuff!

I would love to see this with Callaway. Mavrick, Epic, Rogue, Paradym, I think Mavrik just might win.
