Last summer Alaska was so warm we probably could have grown watermelon 😂🤣. I kick myself for not growing some tomatoes outside for the first time ever in Alaska. Months of 80+ degrees was great here in the valley. I am stoked on global warming!😂😂🤣

I'm so glad to have found this content! I've been a passive food grower for the last couple of years, and this year really encouraged me to think about my food production a little more seriously. Now, I have neither then plans nor the space to grow everything my very large family eats (and we have plans to move come summer), but I'm glad to that there is content relevant to my growing area. Thanks for making these videos!
Also, do you know if this extension offers soil testing?

Great video! What flowers (perennials)would you recommend for planting outside a house in Fairbanks? Would roses survive?

Hello! There are many perennial flowers that do well in interior Alaska. My first recommendation if you're located in Fairbanks is to visit the Georgeson Botanical Garden (GBG) a few times throughout the summer to see how certain perennials grow in our climate and yes, there are several cultivars of hybrid roses growing there! Some perennial flower standards that do well here in Fairbanks are: Day lilies, Iris, Delphinium, Maltese cross, Asiatic lilies, and Trollius. You will find more information on perennial flowers, and rose varieties growing at the GBG here: www.georgesonbotanicalgarden.org/learn/plant-trials/

Pansies aren't technically a perennial, but they many varieties reseed beautifully. As far as roses go, most varieties sold at places like Home Depot will NOT survive in Fairbanks. Look for rose rugosa for your zone www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=georgesonbotanicalgarden.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/2014.-Holloway-Note.78.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwjB2P__-o-EAxUJMDQIHQmJDe4QFnoECBwQBQ&usg=AOvVaw3jomlNQ9S3B80Dg6HaxKG_

so that didn't really give us any info except cold weather crops. I was hoping this was going to be more specific and not so generalized. Like in South Central along the coast you should Avoid this or plant this they do really well there.
