    I really love Shinzen Young's teachings, so free of dogma, so full of precise explanations. Can't really relate to any of the " do nothing" paths, since I need to focus on something while my mental movie theatre is creating it's own reality :). But I love Shinzen's openness to whatever works. As far as the clothes, I like them. I would never want Shinzen to turn into a yuppy fahion plate ( EEEK!) or a yuppy anything, but this outfit is nice, contemporary, tasteful, IMHO.

      They're a normal person's clothes, which is kind of nice to find in spiritual circles LMAO

    I have tried this and this works the best because it forces you to stop resisting if you are going to stay still

    Hi, I have ADD/ inattentive ADHD and this method really works for me. Does anyone else have this and wants to share experiences?

    It is a great base line and maybe not a bad idea to minimize superfluous measure. Doubt you could get through life never manifesting measure though.

    Hi everyone when doing this technique and I have a though I fear should I allow my mind distract myself with another thought? If I interfere with my mind distracting myself from this scary thought and force myself to face the scary thought, am I not doing something?

      i think the idea with a lot of this stuff is, you can either unknowingly act out your distraction/coping strategies (or whatever may be jamming you up), or you can knowingly see them occur. by knowingly being there while your mind runs wild, that's better than being fully identified with it.

    Is free monitoring meditation the same as do nothing?

    • @mihugong3153

      What is "free monitoring meditation"? Who teaches that?

    • @Woodzal
      @Woodzal 4 роки тому +3

      @@mihugong3153 It's the commonly used term in scientific community when conducting research about mindfulness and meditation; the term used in opposition to focused meditation. Lots of bloggers use the term as well.
      Open monitoring meditation is described usually as 'being open to whatever enters your awareness at any given time during your meditation sessions, observing everything that is happening without judgement'
      Example of the term being used in a research paper: www.nature.com/articles/s41598-018-28274-4

      @@Woodzal Yep, that's do nothing.

      @@Woodzal I do not think so because when you "observe" whatever happens in your brain that is usually an effort. For me I let whatever enter my mind but I do not attempt to be aware of it. The awareness of those things may happen, or they may not. Check out his other do nothing meditation technique video.

      I would say that no it's not the same thing. Because having the objective in your head of monitoring whatever comes in and out of your head is in my opinion actively doing something. For me, the do nothing meditation is to sit down and think if you want to think, plan if you want to plan, listen to your body if that's what you want, etc. There is no right or wrong.
