    Before Watching Video: Here's Hoping it doesn't suck!
    Post Watch Necropsy: Muddy, bass heavy tuning. Bugs. No passthrough. Biggest fail is not being compatible with aftermarket straps. And I guarantee you are correct on the power drain, no way to get that much bass off ear without some form of an amplification circuit. All for an asinine price tag! I'll take 8! This by far is the most in depth and accurate video about these. They got that first party accessory feel which is nice, but that's kind of it. The sound is such a shame, wish the highs were more pronounced and the bass less overblown. I primarily use the quest wireless with ALVR and a battery pack to keep me going for a long time during the night, but with it on I notice it's not keeping its charge up anymore. Hell, it died while it was charging and not being used. That amp in there is going to kill battery life for sure even when nothing is happening (explains why it's also so noisy anything playing)
    Hope they go on sale for 60€, that feels more fair

    One of the things you've gotta be careful about when comparing the audio from the stock Quest 2 speakers with any other third-party speaker solutions is that third-party speaker solutions can ruin the audio from the Quest 2 speakers while they are attached. Anything the interferes with the path of the soundwaves from the Quest 2's speaker opening to your ears will dramatically affect the frequency response. In fact, any nearby object - even if the object doesn't block the direct path - can have a significant effect. You can test this by simply putting your hands near the sides of your head while listening to music via the Quest 2 speakers.
    I noticed this when testing the VR Ears. The attachment clamps that those speakers used massively degraded the Quest 2's stock sound, which made it impossible to conduct a fair comparison while the VR Ears were attached. In the end, I wrote off the VR Ears as a big waste of money because they don't provide a significant enough improvement to audio quality to justify the huge inconvenience and bulk they add.
    These new Logitech Chorus headphones are tempting because they look like they'd be less of a hassle than the VR Ears. But I still think I'll probably pass because, despite what a lot of people say, I think the Quest 2's stock speaker system is surprisingly good for what it is. Whilst it doesn't provide rich, deep bass, it does provide more bass than I would expect from this kind of recessed system and it makes the headset so streamlined and convenient.

    • @ProgrammistMusic
      @ProgrammistMusic 2 роки тому

      totally agree. Some of the headstraps can ruin the Q2 speaker sound, especially halo-straps which remove the soundwave paths. Also the Q2 speakers are pretty good for what they are. I only play with headphones if i reallly need to shut down from the world and need full sound, but to be honest, for most games the build in speakers are perfect. Playing sports games with headphones does not for for me at all and i usually don't like to have something on my ears while playing.

    • @PSWii360onBaSS
      @PSWii360onBaSS 2 роки тому

      The Quest 2 speakers remind me of iPad/iPhone speakers. Suprisingly good for how small they are, and I believe they use the same method of laying the speakers flat in the chassis and conducting air through the openings at the bottom.

    • @ProgrammistMusic
      @ProgrammistMusic 2 роки тому

      @@PSWii360onBaSS yep, this is quite an achievement in terms of design. Other companies like Pico did a terrible job with their Pico Neo 3 Link, which has a real bad sound, although the headset itself has some pretty good comfort advantages compared to the Quest 2. Unfortunately the bad sound is not the only downside of the Pico.

    • @PSWii360onBaSS
      @PSWii360onBaSS 2 роки тому

      @@ProgrammistMusic I haven't really been following the pico 3 that much, since it seems to essentially be a Quest 2 without facebook. So I'm guessing it's the 3rd party support? Or is there other technical issues with it?

    • @ProgrammistMusic
      @ProgrammistMusic 2 роки тому +1

      @@PSWii360onBaSS the overall design of the Pico is better than the Quest 2. The headstrap and the facial interface is excellent compared to the Q2 original. Although it rules out any 3rd party accessories and it's not for everyone. The Pico has a display port, which makes it a full PCVR headset with excellent display quality. It works with STEAM VR motion smoothing which is extremely helpful for GPU hungry games on midrange PCs. Games like No Man's Sky do look and run better on the Pico under those conditions. The native game library is okay, but of course does not have the amound of games available compared to Quest 2. The build in video player can also access SMB shares, so you won't need additional players. The headset supports external storage via USB, so you can play files from USB devices and it allows to install APKs via USB and network.
      Nevertheless, for me personally the Pico has massive downsides apart from the really terrible speakers. And that is a smaller FOV (at least for me i can only get about 68 degrre horizontal) and most important some sort of image warping. This makes the image jitter a little bit if you move your head. The video scaling seems to be off as well as the controller position in PCVR mode. If you play games like Tennis the racket / hand positions simply do not match the way they should.
      All in all it's nice to try out the Pico 3, but i wouldn't recommend it, to be honest. But in about a month the new Pico 4 will be announced and released soon. Hopefully they can improve on the issues i have.
      Regarding Facebook it does not make any difference, to be honest. Pico is owned by Byte Dance which owns TicTok. I am not sure if it's better to give my information to Facebook/Meta or a big chineses company, which ist basically under control of the CCP.

  • @OliverLiangEngTurtle
    @OliverLiangEngTurtle 2 роки тому +1

    I wouldn't completely blame Logitech for the lack of Oculus Link support. They had a choice between audio quality and link over USB compatibility, and they chose audio quality.
    Logitech could choose between sourcing analog audio from the Quest's 3.5mm jack, or getting digital audio from the USB-C port. Digital audio over USB would have better audio quality, since separate DAC, amp, and digital signal processing can be designed by Logitech, and that's what they choose. However there's a gotcha with Oculus link.
    During normal operations, the Chorus connects to the quest over the short rubber USB cable, with the Quest acts as USB Host, and the Chorus as USB Device. However, with oculus link, the Quest needs to be the USB Device, and the PC the USB Host.
    There can only be one USB host in a connection, a USB-C port can't be both host and device at the same time, plus the Chorus can only receive audio from the host, likely only over the rubber USB cable.
    So any design that can approach the Chorus' audio quality is not going to work with Oculus Link over wired USB.
    There might be a "duck tape" solution to get something working. The Chorus could be connected separately to the Host PC, and selected as the PC's audio output at the same time as wired link. This could be done using a USB-C extension cable connected to the small rubber USB-C cable.

    Not being able to use PCVR Link cable is reason enough to pass on this, serious oversight on Logitech's part of not allowing Link using their passthrough USBC port, what a shame, they should have dropped the built in electronics and used the headphone jack instead, the Deluxe Audio Strap sounds pretty good with good bass and it uses the headphone jack.

    This guy sure knows how to open boxes up in style... :)
    Would like to know if they make the headset feel similarly front heavy as the RR VR Ears. I used them on my Q1, but even with a battery attached to the back it felt like a kg more to the face thanks to the weight distribution of those cases facing forward and the heavy batteries in them. I didn't like that you can't just flip them up to clear space when laying the headset down somewhere, they always made the whole headstrap with that intentionally heavy battery pack hanging in the air, constantly putting strain on it which basically made me take them off after every session which was mildly annoying to be fair.
    I might get them for improved audio since I just have the Elite headstrap and I'm not using wired link. I also have an Arctis 9, but putting up an extra item and wiring it up isn't that great either (at least I have some good other uses for it and I didn't buy it for possibly Quest use only). (I doubt this would work with the elite strap without battery due to the location of the charging plug). I can still use the hand chargers. I'm just afraid of trying to pick out the right cord. I wish I had waited for a dock with a better design. :( Not fitting into the egg though - HUGE PROBLEM. 😡

    maybe the audio is mixed for the onboard quest speakers so it sounds weird with the chorus

    • @jaybratt
      @jaybratt 2 роки тому +1

      I would hope since they partnered with Oculus (err Meta) for this and used the USB C they could fix any pre mixing. It seems like they really just went after bass and sacrificed all else.

  • @CorporateZombi

    Once you have accounted for the moulding and the packaging. There isn't a lot left for audio out of $100. If you want clear bass and clarity then you need to buy some decent wired in ear monitors. They will cost *way* more than $100 though. They will be good for everything not just for VR though, and you will be amazed at all the sounds you never realised were there.
    Plugging wires into the quest and having them dangle and keeping the things in your ears is annoying however.
    Ideally oculus need to just sort out their damn on board Bluetooth so it isn't so delayed. Then noone would need to buy any of this and faff with wires either. Let's hope they spend some of the 100 extra dollars for quest 2 on this.

    here i am using a 20$ Koss KSC75 headphones and am perfectly happy of the sound. 100$ mark is a high one and i expected more than "bass". i hate when companies do that. i thought they would take inspiration of valve on how to eq properly.
    as for not having link passthrough, thats insane! i cant believe they missed something so basic on what tries to be a premium device.

    I've seen on other reviews that when plugged into the cable connected to a pc the audio reverted to stock quest audio. The audio continues to work with the quest elite battery strap.
    Does it work with the bobo M1 plus battery pack? Or does the audio revert to the headset with a non quest brand battery. Biggest question for me.

    14:28 “This is a strap I can not name, so that’s why the backend is all blurred out.”
    14:45 “So kiwi elite straps, no, no go.”
    And it looks exactly the same o the kiwi elite strap, he’s reviewed the kiwi elite strap and I plan on buying a kiwi elite strap, I’m betting the reason why the back was blurred out is because it’s a experimental kiwi design elite strap with a battery pack on the back.
    Edit: It’s Definitely a Battery pack, you can even see the wire come out at 14:32 & 14:38 the kiwi design elite strap is hands down the best elite strap type accessory that I’ve personally tried, so I’m going to wait for a kiwi design elite strap with battery pack to get released and either het the normal kiwi elite strap because it will be cheaper then normal or get the battery one if there’s a good deal on it
