DC Electric Multiple Units JR-East E259 series N.EX, Narita Airport Express since 2009. 22 multiple 6-car electric units that can operate in two units forming a 12-car train. Manufactured by Kinki Sharyo, Tokyu Car Corporation. This type of transport is inspired by the Koploper or ICMm electric unit of the NS
JR-East NE'X E259 SERIES, the big Show I'♥️🇯🇵 💯💯 The JR-East Narita Express, N'EX is a limited express train that links Narita International Airport directly to major cities and districts, including Tokyo, Shinagawa, Shibuya, Shinjuku and Yokohama. Following on from the E 253 Narita Aéroport Express, N'EX, its successor, the E 259 series, which arrived in May 2009, follows the same principle, with the addition of reclining seats. The N'EX is made up of green cars (first class) and ordinary cars. Features and design adapted to limited express access to airports. On-board equipment has been further enhanced Seats with removable cushions double as comfortable, swivelling reclining seats. All seats are equipped with a large table and electrical outlets for computer use. Luggage space is also available close to the legroom. What's more, the trains are quiet thanks to the use of rubber flooring in the ordinary carriages and a carpet finish in the green carriages. Green car (first class) Seats are fitted with footrests and luxury reclining leather seats. Power sockets and large side tables are also available for computer use. Ordinary car (second class) Reclining seats are equipped with large shelves and power outlets for a computer. On board, large LCD guidance systems provide information on destinations, service status, news, weather and flight information (incoming trains) in four languages (English, Chinese, Korean and Japanese). Some content is only available in two languages (English and Japanese). Numerous accessibility measures have been implemented, including large Western-style toilets for electric wheelchair users, low luggage racks and reduced spaces between platforms and trains. Security cameras are installed near doors and in baggage compartments. Luggage compartments on every train are fitted with dial locks. In addition, in-train emergency alert devices that allow communication with crew members enhance safety. The JR-East E259 N.EX series, which was intended to compensate for the problems of the E253-0 series already competing in 1991 with the second airport, Haneda, never managed to establish itself, falling victim to the keisei operator (AE Skyliner series and the 3100 keisei Ueno series) in 2019. The E 259 N.EX series comprises 132 cars, i.e. 22 DC Electric Multiple Units, 6-car EMUs that can operate as two EMUs, or 12-car UM2s. Built by Kinki Sharyo, Tokyu Car Corporation in 2009 with an aluminum structure, they are numbered Ne001 to Ne022. The traction systems are equipped with Hitachi IGBT power transistors with dual variable-frequency VVVF, power distributed over the entire train with regenerative braking whose energy is redirected to the 4 x 190 kW three-phase motors. The two 1.5 kV DC pentographs, one of which is a back-up, are single-armed, and the track gauge is the same as for the 1067 mm Shinkansen. Speed of 130 km/h Equipped with an ATS safety system, in the event of the driver's failure to respond, the train stops. But unlike the E253 series, and the safety features in place, it does not have the ATC automatic train control system, which takes over in the event of the driver's failure, depending on the signalling. They are also equipped with a yaw damper to reduce lateral play, and a bogie-mounted active suspension system to adapt the vertical movement of the cars independently. The 22 NE'X units are serviced at the Kamakura maintenance depot. Since April 2023, the 22 Limited Express E 259 trainsets have been modernized, with the removal of the blue N.EX lettering replaced by silver on the fronts, and the installation of E259 series watermarks on the side walls of the pilot cars, while retaining the red stripe at the top along the entire length of the train. These new modifications, which bring them closer to other Limited Expresses, enable them to take on new routes such as Shiosai (Tokyo - Choshi), which are being implemented on the spring 2024 timetable. This may seem confusing for those wishing to travel from Tokyo Station to Narita International Airport. In 2020, JR East had already tried, unsuccessfully, to use E 259 series trainsets on several new lines by easing some Narita Express services to Yokosuka in Kanagawa Prefecture and Kawaguchiko on Fujikyu Railway. In addition, one unit has been reassigned to the Limited Express Marine Express Odoriko (Tokyo - Izukyu-Shimoda), recognizing a marine anchor on the fronts. The Limited Narita Express will remain, as its name N.EX indicates, an airport shuttle, as JR EAST designed it to be. Personally, I regret the disappearance of this old livery between 2023 and 2024, not forgetting the competition, the opening in 2009 of the Narita Sky Access Line, Keisei AE Series for the Skyliner (Ueno Airport - Narita), as well as for the Morning Liner and Evening Liner (Ueno - Keisei-Narita), a second unit was also born in 2019 for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics but the COVID-19 decided otherwise. The N.EX's ridership was not only due to Narita airport, but also to the reopening of the second Henada airport, which explains Narita's ridership. NE'X provides a direct link between Narita airport's Terminal 1 and Tokyo station, with journeys of up to 53 minutes. A round-trip ticket valid for 14 days costs 5,000 yen. Credit cards are also available, giving you unlimited access to the Shinkansen service. With the exception of the Tokaido Shinkansen, which is operated by JR-CENTRAL. congratulations, a great day
