I clean my barrels this way almost every time after I play. You don't need to boil off the paint, if you can't keep your hand in the water it's too hot. Everything gets wiped down, goes in the cases, and as soon as I get home I spend a few minutes to clean the barrel and if necessary the marker (usually just wipe any paint or debris off of the bolt tip and a very tiny amount of fresh grease on the outside diameter of the bolt). I keep a very soft bristle used toothbrush for the stubborn porting on some barrels, an old barrel squeegee for the really deep cleaning or when I teardown a used marker. I don't stand my barrels up to dry though, everything gets set on a microfiber ($16 for 36 microfiber towels at Sam's Club) once it's rinsed and I am lucky enough to have an 80 gallon air compressor at home, then I use a medium or large rubber tip on my air blower and make sure they are completely dry. Be careful blowing air through a Freak back without an insert in it, you can easily blow out the o-rings that hold the insert and they can be a little frustrating to put back in place.

If you have a barrel with an insert, definitely go back to front when it's off the gun.
