1. Renovating OT will take double the time - hence extra lost revenue from match days for a longer period. The new ground means full attendance at OT til new one opens, maximising match day revenue in the interim to help offset ground costs a tad 2. The infrastructure of the ground, many areas, will still not be fit for purpose long term or utilise areas that could be, if we stay at OT as it is. No matter what they do 3. To squeeze an extra 16k+ seats into OT as it is… we can barely fit in the seats now!!! A new ground can have comfortable seating with legroom 4. A new ground means a blank canvas. Make it work in every possible way it can for football, concerts, etc 5. A new ground means the current OT can be reduced and made a say 30-40k seater for women/youth games. 6. Ineos could potentially even have something nearer Media UK that is science-centric - like a world class science centre. Something away from football but is adding benefit to people (and even the UK) by being best in class for Manchester, the North, the UK. 7. A new ground offers scope to design the very beat acoustics. Add that to a fan-led review of seating plans to try get friends and groups of fans who get along and want to make a fucking racket (in the best possible way!) at games, to make at least 2 ends of the ground really loud and intimidating for away teams / inspirational for our players. 8. Along with the above - rail seat the fuck out of the ground. Get that standing vibe and atmosphere in the ground as much as possible. 9. Get a train like direct into the ground and even use the canal for ‘boat rides’ As for the pitch and the “you can’t knock OT down” people… United is a team and it’s the team we follow. The memories of great days at OT will always be there. For younger fans and generations yet to come, a new OT will be their only reference and so their sacred place. Let new memories be made, and in a world class, huge fuck off ground that is the envy of the world. Fuck Spurs and their ground sat in the middle of a 1970’s looking shitty part of North London. We can have a brand new ground in an already enviable location, with Media City on its doorstep too. We can relocate the trinity statue, Sir Matt and Jimmy Murphy statues. Munich clock and tunnel, etc. have Ineos or whomever sponsor the grounds and help pay for it - so long as their logo isn’t too heavy on the front of the ground. Still call it Old Trafford.
P.s. I’d say it’s c.70% of fans supporting a new ground. Is it Jay doesn’t want to upset Ste saying “I know I’m in the minority” …no, Ste is in the minority here on this. The stadium is crumbling and the train line makes any redevelopment really difficult. Not to mention the cramped conditions. I felt squashed years ago before the dad bod, I’d probably have to pay for 2 seats now! If we were talking about moving to another part of Manchester no way but just a few hundred metres away 100%.

I love how Ste's 'when so much of the original has been replaced is it still the same thing' isn't The Ship of Theseus, he decided to go for trigger's broom! Brilliant!
Im leaning towards a new state of the art stadium on the patch next door. Old Trafford and all its success will have created that stadium for a new generation and a new chapter in the club history. You can love old Trafford and let it go. It's like saying bye to Grandad and welcoming in a grandson. Things will carry on.
Everyone goes on about the New redeveloped Bernabeu staduim but let's not forget it was redeveloped before the 82 World Cup. The foundations of their stadium are probably twice as sound as Old Trafford.
Agreed, redeveloping makes 0 logical and financial sense. Redevelop and renovate a 120 year stadium today just to do the same exercise in another 10-20 years when it'll need more work and inflation will increase the cost of labour and resources
42:45 This I think would be the proposal that would satisfy all United fans ultimately. You even hear Ste gasping at the thought 😂 47:13 Dream scenario
Actually got chills at 43:50 with Ste’s idea of using the current pitch as a youth stadium. What the club is all about, bringing through our own academy lads who are baptised and raised on the hallowed ground that The Babes played on. Fucking hell, I adore this football club.
As a season ticket holder before watching this video, I was fully 100% against the new stadium.. this completely changed my mind Logistically, it won’t work and we will get a sub par product in comparison to what we could have with a new stadium.. I also don’t wanna travel to Stoke every week
The pub under one of the stands would be great and the for an hour after have beers and a band. So that the crowds disperse over time. It’s smaller but I remember when London Irish played In Reading. They had drinks at the beginning and Irish band at the end. The singing never stopped
As a lifelong City fan it pains me to say this but I whack this podcast on while I’m working, sometimes admittedly for gallows humour when they are reviewing another horror show performance by their team, but also because the presenters, Joe in particular, are genuinely witty and make a good podcast that’s entertaining in its own right. Worst of luck for the weekend on the pitch lads but genuine congrats on the quality content and great chemistry between the hosts.
Absolutely brilliant! Off the bar is quickly becoming my favourite paddock show. Especially great content knowledge and personality tonight fellas. thankyou.
In Sydney we have a new stadium where actual restaurants have food stands. For me with my kids and mates it’s way better experience to go there for a game than one of the shitter stadiums. 100% preferred it. It means we don’t need to worry about arriving at a particular time, where to eat before etc. Pub wise we even have outside pubs / drinking areas that the entrance is inside the stadium, and has an outside area. Great for drinks
Unfortunately it’s time for a new build. Last time I was there for Barca match in the Europa, I got back issues because it was so cramped. I usually sit sideways but I could t this time and was in pain for weeks after. Even food options need to improve with more selections for certain diets, religions, etc. more drinks options (but keep the Vimto!) I only rock up 15-20 mins before kick off to avoid getting stuck in those seats and having to get up for someone. There’s some food choices across the road in the retail park, but keep the chippy vans for nostalgia. But the North needs to improve in modernness, just as the Uplift project is trying to do
To answer the ashes query. If United were to move then I’d suggest the original pitch to be incorporated into a new park area which would be lined with shops, bars, etc. they could create a corner of the pitch which is still a remembrance area where people could continue to scatter ashes. They could even keep the nets up so fans could have a bit of a kick around.
Plus...not meaning to be morbid here but OT isn't an enclosed stadium. Any ashes that have been spread there have long since been blown away or sucked up by the lawn mower. We're not talking about actual bodies being exhumed here. Spreading ashes is a symbolic gesture and should be respected as such but the ashes themselves are long gone.
That was a quality watch lads! Some mint ideas in there for future development of Old Trafford or a new stadium. The bit at the end of video where you all agreed that you haven't been able to love the club for 18 years, only the players and staff, really resonated with me as a 28 year old United fan. For most of my life it's been 'Love United, Hate Glazers', it's going to feel so good to be able to love the club in it's entirety again! Top pod! Up the Paddock!
Honestly this is the best discussion I have seen about this topic online. I absolutely love the under 23 section idea as the atmosphere does need to be key to any stadium solution because as someone who is in the corner between the East Stand and the SAF stand the atmosphere isn’t great at times and it needs to improve.
It feels like the people making the decision on the future of Old Trafford, and the potential new stadium, need to watch this video and others like it. A considered view of all angles from the match-going fans.
The more I think about a new stadium it makes more sense. Unfortunately the current space/structure won’t be able to be redeveloped to a state of the art stadium which is the minimum we should be aiming for. As long as a new stadium is on the same site it makes sense, hopefully develop it smartly to incorporate the old style stadiums with the new.
I used to stand in the old score board end. The atmosphere back then was mint. “stretford Giza song” 😂Way too many memories to leave OT, we have to rebuild where it is.
I was 100% on the side of redevelopment of Old Trafford but the nostalgic feel off keeping it as a women’s/Youth Stadium with all of that tradition of youth coming through retained while getting a new stadium of a capacity if 98,990.
As a Garibaldi Red my universe is centered around Forest, but I loved the brainstorming of this video. This should be the go to template when the developement of the City Ground begins. Great ideas lads.
Lifelong fan and only recently was able to visit OT for the first time. I was pretty surprised by the limited food options in the stadium and some really outdated design in public spaces. Feels like that would be an easy an easy fix that would enhance a lot of people's experience without reinventing the wheel. I got the cheapest seats possible and think the actual viewing experience is amazing, but no joke Turf Moore has better food.
Howson getting me riled up! And I’m sitting here in Phoenix AZ and imagining a 100k stadium bouncing and creating an intimidating atmosphere! I’ve been to OT once in my life but if this happens I’ll hope to be there at least twice a season to soak in the atmosphere!
Isn't Barcelona renovating their stadium, and they just simply rented a smaller stadium for 18 months while they renovate Camp Nou. Its not an impossible idea.
Ste at 48:00 is all of us. Regardless of what each of us thinks should happen about the stadium this is all of us. I’m born, raised, and have lived my entire life in North Alabama. I love it here. I love Alabama football. However, I’ve never felt so at home as well I walked into Old Trafford 2 years ago. However, I have been there precisely one time, and it was in worse condition that I ever thought watching each match on tv. It hurts but I think it’s time to build new. I do love the idea of preserving the pitch and make it a youth stadium I’m camp out overnight when I’m there to make sure I got it.
I'm a Liverpool fan and a Scouser! Lol. This was a superb conversation, I'm really interested in stadiums and Old Trafford is one of the most iconic stadiums in the world. I dread Liverpool going there, I'd love to see it redeveloped like we're doing at Anfield, it wouldn't be easy but it is possible. A new stadium could possibly be incorporated into a Manchester Olympic bid, this would attract a lot of outside funding and then be properly adapted into a football stadium unlike how West Ham have done it, either way capacity should be circa 110k United are the one club who could fill it x
As a fan from Canada that visited once, who can appreciate the sentiment from the local fans who go week in week out. United is the biggest club in the world and should have a modern world class stadium. The history and atmosphere comes from the amazing fans and will always be there with a new stadium. Appreciate the fans that want it to be upgraded, but it’s time to be at the top again and a new stadium could help.
Whatever they do they have to have some unallocated seating. I really want to take my 6 year old to his first United match at old Trafford but it’s impossible. I looked into £800 was the only option
My father's ashes are scattered at Old Trafford and I'm with Jay - a new stadium on the plot of land next to OT. This way OT could be kept for the women's/youth teams alongside New Trafford.
I have to agree with Steve about places absorbing energy. In the early 90s I visited Auschwitz and did the tour and all and the place had a definite dark feeling to it. Later that same day we visited another of the concentration camps that was nearby and that had a worse feeling to it. In as far as Old Trafford though. The few times I went with my late dad as a kid in the '70s. It always had a really good vibe to it.
I love the idea of making the oppo walk past all of our achievements and history throughout time, that’s a top idea. I also agree that if it was a new build, it would have to be 100k +, you have to make it the biggest in the country minimum. I would also make the Stretford End within the new build a massive one tier stand like the yellow wall at Dortmund, just make it all safe standing and get that whole stand of red just making a massive noise. The academy stadium being built around the current pitch would also be mint.
nice to hear Sam Platts getting a mention, when i went my first match, Wimbledon 95/96 season, it was the first stop before the game, was too young to really appreciate it though.
If money was no object, my ideal solution would be to build a new 30-35000 seat stadium which would ultimately become the women's and youth stadium but would initially house the first team while Old Trafford is rebuilt from the ground up on the same site. But since that isn't feasible, I'd do the opposite. Build a new 100,000 seat stadium next door and then renovate Old Trafford, reduce the capacity and make that the women's/youth stadium, so that the legacy of the club is maintained. There is no reason we can't have two stadiums (unless OT is on the verge of collapse I guess) that encompass the past, present and future of the club in all its aspects. As for the name of the new stadium, New Trafford is too obvious, it could be named after one of the many legends of United folklore but personally, two potential names come to mind that...might be cheesy but I think could work. The first is The Trinity Stadium...named after the United trinity of Best, Law and Charlton. Honestly, I think "The Trinity" is a decent name that is memorable and rolls off the tongue quite well. The other name...and this one might divide opinion (between me and literally everyone else) is that we take the nickname of OT and use that as the actual name for the new stadium - The Theatre Of Dreams.
Would love to see a new stadium built for first team, with the old stadium returned to its circa 1991/2 when the bowl design started in the 1960’s was finally finished, it became a 60 ,000 capacity stadium which was ultimately cut to 44,000 following the Taylor report. You then have the best of both worlds a fantastic new stadium for the next generations to form magical memories and the the refurbished smaller stadium full of memories and inspiration for the women’s and young lads coming through
To me im for a new ground. To me the glazers let OT get too far run down to be repaired and it isnt safe. The other consideration that is weighing on me is FFP. OT is sold out every game and the list waiting is double and then some, so adding seats is a big deal but is also a big deal because it increases our good income. If you couple that increase in revenue with the way the club is supposedly going to decrease the wage structure we will have the flexibility financially to help get back to competing with the top of the league which is where we should be aiming for.
Stes idea to reuse old Trafford as an Academy stadium next to new old Trafford is the best compromise I’ve heard about this whole new stadium plan. Even make it the women’s & Academy stadium right next to the new gaff. Could be mint.
Old Trafford is the Mecca of football. To see it getting knocked down would break my heart. There's way too much history, memories and royalty that will go away forever. It's more than just a stadium.
I have to agree that the idea for segments for people of say 16-25 (probably coz I am older than ste!!😂)who can make some effin noise has to be put in place no matter how it proceeds, I’d be gutted (no pun intended Joe),if it it was moved from the original site though. I think that with the women’s game getting bigger and bigger that, it would be a good idea to build a new stadium for the women in the designated place for the men’s new stadium, the reason being that way everyone would win. As we, the men’s team could continue to play at OT for a year or 2 (with the roof repaired of course before next season!!! Then when the ladies home ground was ready. We could watch the men playing there while OT would remain on the same site but be completely rebuilt, or if salvageable pieces could be made or left to fit in to the Complete rebuild even better, but the main thing is that OT would still essentially be on the same sacred ground!!! There you go the jobs a good un as that way it will end up being a complete Manchester United centre parc and OT will live on forever and become the best in Europe if not the world, just like to add I’ve been going since the 70’s so it holds lots of memories, both happy and sad. It just means a lot to me as it does for many of us. So Rebuilding for me UTR&UTP ❤🤍🖤👍🏼 debate up to now 18:57
Scaled down Old Trafford as an academy/womens stadium sounds like a fantastic idea. New stadium on it's shoulder, a great and tasteful way of preserving the legacy, but also moving with the times.
I’ve had a LMTB and ST in K since 87, but when I was at uni in Birmingham from 92-95, Villa did student tickets. £5 with an NUS card and take your pick - Holte end standing, seats, the away fans section, Europe, PL - whatever. Reserve games were free. Was weird as I’m not a fan, but watching them in the Holte end against Deportivo or Arsenal or Blackburn or with the West Ham fans in their end was mental. In a good way. So yes to the idea of a load of cheap kids and students tickets. Btw quick tip for anyone watching this in the future when we have time machines: when Ian Wright scores the winning goal in the last minutes in 93 (or 94 - can’t remember) and you’re in the Holte end - don’t celebrate 😅
Surely it is better to build from new ! To refurbish any old building is more difficult than to start from scratch as long as we stop at Old Trafford 😊😊
Cannot replace Old Trafford with a soulless hunk of metal like the new Bernabeu or Spurs stadiums. They might be state of the art but they are also corporate and lifeless. I don't envy their fans when I see those stadiums, I feel sorry for them. We either recreate old trafford with modern techniques that support a higher capacity or we renovate the existing stadium.
Love Ste’s idea, New Trafford and an Academy Old Trafford, the academy lads and lasses would thrive, or Old Trafford as the Women’s ground and a sharing the New Stadium.
I am a wide 6’4 human and whenever I tried to sit I needed 1.5 seat, my knees were in the person in front of me. I basically have to stand almost the entire 90 minutes!
Whatever they do with the renovation/new build, they should get some acoustic engineering. I know some stadiums in the US have architecture to bounce the sound back onto the pitch/field.
You could have the walk of Legends with Statues on the way from OT to The New Sir Matt Busby Stadium, The Bryan Robson Bar ,Juan Mata's Spanish Tapa Restaurant etc. Cantona's Wine Bar and obviously Lou Macari's Super Chippy. ❤
Old Trafford/ New Trafford is the most phenomenal idea possible! It would be a world leading idea and also solidifies LEGACY for SJR!!! I’ve watched Aussie Rules training and first day at a test in Melbourne within the same week. Going into Emirates OT with additional seating is a great shout! If it needs to be done.
Ste, when my old man was in the Army I lived in Hohne camp. I went to Belsen and there are no birds singing. It’s very eerie and does have a weird energy.
New stadium should have a massive pub like you lot said, even open on away games where fans can still go there and watch the game on a big screen or something.
For me the perfect solution - would be to build a new stadium along side the existing ground. Then to redevelop the existing stadium into a 20,000 seat stadium for the women and academy teams.
Bolton would be the most realistic option for a ground share. Its miles out of Manchester but its actually got an OK capacity (28k) and infrastructure around it
'Like' if you'd like an Old Trafford revamp or tell us why you'd like a 'New Old Trafford'! 👇

All things considered, it's nice to see the ownership group ACTUALLY care about the football club as a football club, instead of a business asset.

Didnt think Jay was going to chose that option but i agree.
42:45 This I think would be the proposal that would satisfy all United fans ultimately. You even hear Ste gasping at the thought 😂
47:13 Dream scenario
I agree its the best option.
Actually got chills at 43:50 with Ste’s idea of using the current pitch as a youth stadium. What the club is all about, bringing through our own academy lads who are baptised and raised on the hallowed ground that The Babes played on. Fucking hell, I adore this football club.
100%
As a season ticket holder before watching this video, I was fully 100% against the new stadium.. this completely changed my mind
Logistically, it won’t work and we will get a sub par product in comparison to what we could have with a new stadium..
Love it when Jay does those funny side comments, "Calm it down..," hahah😆
As a lifelong City fan it pains me to say this but I whack this podcast on while I’m working, sometimes admittedly for gallows humour when they are reviewing another horror show performance by their team, but also because the presenters, Joe in particular, are genuinely witty and make a good podcast that’s entertaining in its own right. Worst of luck for the weekend on the pitch lads but genuine congrats on the quality content and great chemistry between the hosts.
United fan here and I loved this comment, cheers mate 😂🙌🏾
Even food options need to improve with more selections for certain diets, religions, etc. more drinks options (but keep the Vimto!)
I only rock up 15-20 mins before kick off to avoid getting stuck in those seats and having to get up for someone. There’s some food choices across the road in the retail park, but keep the chippy vans for nostalgia. But the North needs to improve in modernness, just as the Uplift project is trying to do
Great upload lads , really enjoyed this .
Gentlemen… this is the best “off the bar” I’ve ever watched.
The potential for MUFC moving forward has me moved. Moved to tears. 🎉 love you boys!
My Dad used to go both too, used to rock up to Maine road with his mates 30 mins from the end and they'd always let them in for free.
It feels like the people making the decision on the future of Old Trafford, and the potential new stadium, need to watch this video and others like it. A considered view of all angles from the match-going fans.
These are actually great ideas. Hope someone from the club listens to this.
Yes. One of my favourite channels to watch. Love watching you all and keep up the amazing content you put out
The more I think about a new stadium it makes more sense. Unfortunately the current space/structure won’t be able to be redeveloped to a state of the art stadium which is the minimum we should be aiming for. As long as a new stadium is on the same site it makes sense, hopefully develop it smartly to incorporate the old style stadiums with the new.
I like that new idea, Ste, Old Trafford new Trafford. And you kinda took the words out of my mouth. I was thinking the Busby Babes stadium/Arena
It has to be a new stadium, OT ,s infrastructure has had it. OT would probably take 2 years to demolish before you could start a rebuild.
I watch a lot of your content, it’s great. Keep it up. But this episode is one of the best you have done! Well done!
Brilliant. Loved every minute of that
As a Garibaldi Red my universe is centered around Forest, but I loved the brainstorming of this video. This should be the go to template when the developement of the City Ground begins. Great ideas lads.
That 25k unallocated seating idea is actually fantastic, it would make the new stadium frightening to come to.
Some big dreams, love it, I'd love to see Ste's idea of a new stadium next to the current OT turned into an academy ground 😍
I fucking love you 3 man 😂. Best trio by a mile.
I think having bars/restaurants could have a beneficial effect on atmosphere, since everyone there is for one reason: to watch United.
imagine salford quays tram station with 100,000 capacity. sweet jesus.
This was a great one.
Positive vibes and great things to come🤩
My father's ashes are scattered at Old Trafford and I'm with Jay - a new stadium on the plot of land next to OT.
As an American fan, When I first started watching United I thought the home ground was Wembley because we played there so much.
Literally every word out of Ste today is bang on. We could be the best in class if they take this opportunity by the balls and get it right.
I love the idea of having the academy play at the current Old Trafford ground
Visiting Bergen-Belsen was certainly a weird experience back in 1970. Just an overwhelming feeling of sadness, not even birdsong.
Would love to see a new stadium built for first team, with the old stadium returned to its circa 1991/2 when the bowl design started in the 1960’s was finally finished, it became a 60 ,000 capacity stadium which was ultimately cut to 44,000 following the Taylor report. You then have the best of both worlds a fantastic new stadium for the next generations to form magical memories and the the refurbished smaller stadium full of memories and inspiration for the women’s and young lads coming through
I think more and more people will get on board with a new stadium the further plans proceed
Not watched the channle for abit but jays funny he just makes me laugh 😂
Could do a close stadium for most games and the odd bigger match at the Millennium stadium in Cardiff
It's more than just a stadium.
this was an amazing video. excellent from true fans. Would love to see these ideas implemented.
So Rebuilding for me
UTR&UTP ❤🤍🖤👍🏼 debate up to now 18:57
A nice grey or black granite stone top to bottom with some nice maroon like wood panneling for seating could be lovely
I remember the 4 quid, with the membership book, am 45 now and experienced the best days of my life, like Keane said it's prawn sandwich time.
The Bernebau is actually a renovation not a new stadium
@@NickQuigley-dp9so Either way, it is hideous.
@@thebiglebrowski3695 very true
New stadium and then turn old Trafford into a hotel/museum!
Or reduce the capacity of OT and make it the youth and/or women's stadium, thus it still serves a vital role in the future of United.
That's actually a fantastic idea with the hospitality. Instead of statues why not holograms of our legends? Holograms have come along way.
It’s very eerie and does have a weird energy.
lol 19:37 “where both city fans can go..” 😂😂😂
city have 2 fans and your fans leave after 60 mins lmao
@@Jporter196 what you doing here mate 😂
New stadium should have a massive pub like you lot said, even open on away games where fans can still go there and watch the game on a big screen or something.
I already sent you the perfect option!! I don’t want to blow my own horn,(but I am and once again no pun intended 😂)UTR&UTP 30:53
If we move to another stadium. Unless it’s Wembley, the reduction in seats means that we might as well close a stand at OT whilst it gets re-built.
Love this vid!!! Never have I had so much hope for the future 👍🏽🇾🇪 🏆🇾🇪🏆🇾🇪 🙏 😂
Good debate, got to keep it where it is for me, but completely knock it down and build a new stadium around the existing pitch.
For me the perfect solution - would be to build a new stadium along side the existing ground. Then to redevelop the existing stadium into a 20,000 seat stadium for the women and academy teams.
Whatever happens, it's great to see change is coming ! , If they are to build again I would love to see it named after the Busby babes in someway 🇾🇪
Bolton would be the most realistic option for a ground share. Its miles out of Manchester but its actually got an OK capacity (28k) and infrastructure around it
