A few weeks before having to go into the army (I was drafted) I put in attic stairs for my mom and dad. My foot slipped off a stud and I fell through the sheetrock to the floor 8 feet below. My first thoughts weren’t of being hurt. The first thing I thought of was hoping I broke an arm so I wouldn’t have to report at the army induction center. My mom who was watching me work was thinking the same thing I was. We both laughed as she helped remove all the sheetrock and insulation off of me. I spent the entire time I was in the military in Nike Hercules Missile classes. The longest class was for fire control maintenance, which was a system to control the launches of missiles. When I was drafted I didn’t want to go to Vietnam so I signed up for the safest army class they had. I knew there were no Nike Hercules missiles in any war zones. They were strictly defensive weapons. I ended up becoming honor graduate in an international class that included Germany, Italy, Spain and South Korea. I became great friends with the South Koreans. They were all black belts in karate. Whenever I went to Juarez to drink and party I usually took a few of them with me. They were excellent and fast! While hanging out in a large hallway between classes I was joking with one of the South Koreans taunting him and saying he didn’t know karate. Even though he was 8 feet away on the other side of the hall the next thing I felt was his foot against my throat. He had me pinned against the wall. I couldn’t believe he was that fast. I couldn’t believe anyone could be that fast. I was glad we were friends.

We removed the wood stove from our kitchen and since I cannot find anyone who will come fix this ceiling hole for me, I will be doing it myself. Your instructional video is VERY helpful. I just finished mudding and taping the walls of the kitchen and my next job is to tackle the ceiling and (unfortunately) retexture it to match the rest. Wish me luck! Jeff here. Albuquerque NM. I am 3rd generation drywall guy. Steel structural framer, sheetrock hanger, drywall finisher, and texture SPECIALIST. Can match and or do any texture. Love old to new challenges. 25 years experience. You're awesome for doing these vids man. I have lived here in Albuquerque my whole life. Have yet to see anyone even good or close to good as far as patching and texture outside of my family members who are now retired. Good job I would love to get the opportunity to work with you. Don't know where you are located? Drywall finishing and patching is a DYING ART. I have and still am making great money doing drywall repairs because no one is worth a damn. Keep it up man

Right on Jeff!💥👊🏻 Same here man. Not many tradesmen can match textures very well. Needless to say that I make a pretty good living!👍🏻 It takes a special breed with a good eye, patience and mad skills to be to pull it off. I enjoy what I do and it’s sounds like you do too. Keep up the good work bro! Thanks so much for watching and subscribing my friend!😎 Rock on!🤟🏻 -Paul

Definitely, if you can do it your self, that's always great! I would have charge 2 or 3 times that. But its all relative to the job and city.

Pro tip - never go in your attic after you had a pint of Jack Daniels. I went to run some hdmi wire and didn't need stairs to come down, landed straight in the living room.

I have that nasty spray in insulation all over my attic. They didn't uniformly distribute it, so once when I had a small roof leak, the insulation got wet in a spot where it was bunched up a foot high. Sure 'nuff, it got so heavy that it crashed right down into the family room. 18 inch by 3 foot hole in my ceiling! It's repaired, but I could never get the knockdown texture to match.

I have a mold remediation company cutting out sections of the ceiling that have mildew on them, so I need to fill/ patch about 6 holes of various sizes. I was nervous to do it on my own, but maybe I'll give it a go! Thanks for the video.

It's easier to cut the circle with a contractors coumpass the same radius with the furrings strip .not cutting the ceiling is less work .

Jeff Bennett I suggest a much smaller square. Just a little bit bigger then the circle.

More than one way to skin a cat but my method for this is to cut a circle and finish in a circle. Drywall repair, to me, is much harder to make perfect than finishing new drywall. I try to keep holes as small as possible because the larger the hole, the farther you have to feather

Honestly after the first coat I couldn't even tell anymore where the hole was. Great video, I took down three walls in the basement and need to do some patchwork. It's going to be a nightmare, but this video will save me 3 grand worth of work.

Hey Paul, I did a similar patch in my living room ceiling. I can’t believe how perfect yours looked with the very first coat of mud! I’m just doing a sanding on my first coat and I’ve already got a couple of pieces of drywall tape edges popping up. I guess I need more mud? It’s amazing how easy something looks but how tricky it can be in real life. Thank you very much for this. I’m going to trim the tape edges give it another coat of mud and see how it looks. I think my problem is I only went a few inches around my 10 inch patch and I should’ve probably gone eight or 10 inches or more past patched area.
