The big problem with the YSL bag is the magnet closing. It’s so frustrating to try to close the flap. I actually have to turn the bag to the side to look at the magnet in order for it to lock.

I bought a YSL bag at the outlet about three years ago, don’t know the name, it looks like a doctor’s bag embossed in crock. I can tell you that the bag is in perfect condition and I take it to work every day. The hardware is black on black, very slick and discrete. YSL bags are beautiful and durable. Because the Chanels are so expensive now, I tend to baby them so the enjoyment factor is less.

If I want an investment bag to be worn only as a special going out bag to be kept in excellent condition for many years then it is the Chanel all the way. If I want a work horse that is going to get much more regular use then it would be the YSL. But for me personally I would get the Chanel because I already have the second category covered with the LV Pochette Métis in black empriente.
I sooooo regret not getting a classic flap years ago. I was not really into that style but now I would see myself more with it. But also the thing is with the price tag of my Chanel bags, I’m always a bit stressed out to use them and it’s not the price of a jumbo, I’m talking mini square, seasonal flaps and Chanel 19. But I’m using my medium YSL loulou with no second thought. The price is way better and I know if something happens, I’m talking about way less money. All of it to say that now I’m considering these aspects. Maybe some people don’t care but I do and babying bags so much is not that fun.
The YSL envelope is ART durable but stunning I will say the closure is a bit annoying but a lady wearing a Chanel double flap stopped me and stated she loved my bag. But the Chanel jumbo classic is my dream

I’ve gone into YSL several times to buy one of their bags, but every time I’m there something happens that makes me not want to pull the trigger. Last time I was in there a month ago, I was looking at that envelope bag. I asked about a different color and the sa opened a drawer below me and I saw all the bags just tossed in there like it was a tj maxx or something. It was a huge turn off and made me feel like the whole experience was cheapened. I ended up going next door to Louis and buying the black coussin pm instead.
I had that same experience with YSL two weeks ago (and previously) I walked into boutique & the store was dark & sloppy. I was looking for a slg but everything I looked at was worn or might be returns. Weird vibe I walk right out!

I absolutely love my Chanel jumbo in the gold hardware. I'm not a practical person, but I would choose this bag over many, even if more comfortable. 😆 My Chanel bag is a total classic and like you said, the Chanel Jumbo holds it's value. But my YSL bags are made very well too, but will never outshine my Chanel bags.
First of all let me say I don't buy new designer bags. For me it is kind of like buying a new car, that depreciation hits once you drive off the lot. With that said, I've always leaned towards Chanel and Louis Vuitton over YSL because price versus the quality on the used market appears to be better with those brands over YSL. But I would purchase a secondhand YSL bag.
The two different patterns on the YSL makes it very unattractive to me. If it was either just the quilted or the chevron then it would be a winner for me. Looks like a well made bag. Love my Jumbo!! Got it almost 4 years ago and I do use the back pocket for my phone at times and the pocket is just fine. Just don’t let your phone live in the back pocket if you are concerned about stretching.
Chanel bags look cumbersome as heck to use. That extra flap inside is so unnecessary, plus the outside flap is useless. And on top of it, extremely heavy. Other than resale value, no desire for that bag.

Yes, there is a little bit of a gloss to it, but the leather is beautiful and very durable
