Great video. Benjamin is also representative of Orwell himself within the novel. He was known to his friends as ‘Donkey George’, a nickname given thanks to his pessimistic nature and clear intelligence. Orwell himself became captivated by communism in Paris when he lived a poor lifestyle, but realised that all communist revolutions end the same way: a capitalist society is replaced by an almost identical hierarchy which just goes by a different name. He sees the outcome as inevitable and creates a character in the novel which represents his views.
