It's nice that e.l.f. made an announcement that they're raising their prices by $1 but is it really transparency though? I read that the CEO took home a massive bonus last year on top of his base salary, and e.l.f. also increased their sales growth by more than 12% last year. Keep in mind that a $1 is roughly a 20%-25% price increase on most of their products. Yes, it is still cheaper than most drugstore makeup for good quality, but let's not be quick to praise million-dollar corporations for doing the minimum. I hope the difference of the price increase mainly goes to their lower-wage workers and not directly to top management.
bonuses for c suite are locked into their contract (usually yearly ahead of time), and leaders are usually held to a growth percentage in order to collect bonus at the end of the year. With interest rates rising dramatically and supply chain issues still not getting resolved, this price increase should not shock anyone. All prices are rising everywhere because of the state of the economy. I totally get that we all want to say “fuck the rich man! It’s their fault!” But this really isn’t the reason here.
@@tburrrg2502 did i say or imply anywhere in my comment 'fuck the rich' and blame top management? did i say the price increase wasn't or was a result of supply chain issues? did i say the CEO did or did not deserve his bonus? i said in my last sentence that hopefully the profits from the price increase will not go directly into the top executives' pockets while lower-wage workers in their company are still struggling to get by with a minimum wage, and not for consumers to be quick to "praise" a company for being slightly transparent (slightly, because we do not know the details of the decision and results behind the price increase). not sure what you got out of my comment or what narrative you tried to push here but ok.
@@emmapepperoni9972 Hey please calm down I’m not painting a narrative for you- I never said you said that he didn’t deserve his bonus? Seems like you are blowing my original comment out of proportion and creating this narrative yourself. Originally I was expanding on things you said with additional details as someone who works in this industry.
First of all my comment from over a month ago was to help fill in information to confirm that the $1 is not going into the pockets of executives because exec comp and bonus structures are set in stone a year in advance and are filed publicly with the SEC. I don’t disagree with your hopes for equitable wages for their employees- I was just filling in the details because your point about their CEO comp + the $1 increase aren’t connected in any way, so it was unclear why you were bringing that up.
Lastly if you are bored you can go read their investors decks on the SEC site. It says straight up that the $ from the 1 dollar increase is going to cover increased spending on labor, transportation, and cost of materials. Idk why you got super defensive, I wasn’t arguing with you, I was filling in the gaps as someone who is a professional and knows what is actually happening here without my own emotions and personal bias for wanting equitable workers pay.
Michelle (lab muffin) is very knowledgeable and she often debunks skincare/haircare myths, she's amazing! Glad to see her mentioned.
I hope elf raises it's wages too for their workers. I saw their CEO took home a 950k bonus last yr & according to their earnings call last month sales were up 11% compared to last yr, with a projected 15-18% increase for this yr. I think they should consider upping wages to match what's happening with inflation.
Tldr What's good for the goose is good for the gander.
I wonder what percentage of the CEO’s base salary that nearly 1 million bonus was 🤔
Amazing all those companies still got loans for the pandemic they didnt need to pay back
The issue with olaplex is very concerning to me, not because of this brand in particular, since I've never used it before. But it makes me question everything else that we're using and potentially unknowingly harming ourselves with. That really scares me.
What's weird is if you look at the study they were FEEDING the rats the fragrance. Idk why they act like people are eating olaplex. From what I've seen it does not cause infertility from being applied topically. However there definitely needs to be more strict regulation on products and foods
I definitely remember when elf was a $1 ($3) brand! Amazing! It was the best.
i truly respect elf for at least letting us know that they’re raising their prices beforehand. i’m trying to be hopeful about MUR buying out BH but i must admit that i’m quite worried. btw, i had no idea what BH actually stood for, and it’s truly cringey. 😣
@@MyCleverHandle i ADORE bh cosmetics!!! i have a few of their eyeshadow palettes and a face palette and a brush set. i’m dyinggg to go to tj max to get the sweet shoppe collection and some more brushes, but i’m still recovering from major surgery and i can’t leave the house. people are selling their stuff on mercari for a ridiculous amount of money and it’s saddening. i hope they pull through. i reallllly do!!!
The hype around those Sephora sales is crazy to see from the perspective of a European - where i live Sephora is having a 20% off code available on their website every weekend and it’s for everyone, no matter if you have a sephora card or not - if you do then sometimes you can get an additional 5% off. And you can usually get a 30% discount at least once a month. They don’t work in physical stores tho, so it’s always way cheaper to buy online.
yea i wondered it too!! I wish we had as many brands as usa tho :( i feel like we have only 3-5 good brands that actually intrest me meanwhile us has like 7-10.
To tame the short curly hairs/baby hairs you can use hairspray or hair gel! I actually have a brow gel that I just refilled with hair gel 😂 and whenever I want them to lay flat I just brush it on in the direction I wanted to be!
First, love the diversity of things you've been covering within the beauty sphere lately! Your videos have been incredibly interesting to watch, so keep up the great work!
With the curly "regrowth", I don't really have tips on what to do about it, but I lost all of my hair from chemo & it grew back curly...for a while. It went right back to my original texture after maybe 3-6 months. Apparently that's very common...at least w chemo re-growth, so maybe that's what's going on with your hair too. Good luck with it!
Badass with Heart? I had to pause the video to let it soak in. What in the kindness vegan doing good discovery live laugh love is that? 😂
Love that you mentioned Lab Muffin! She is such an amazing creator and does such a good job at debunking and keeping fears calm.
I remember when Elf was a $1 brand before they went to $3 and I LOVED their eyeshadows! They were single circular pans that had an imprint of an eye on them. I wish they still had them because the quality was amazing.
So happy to see you mention Michelle! (Labmuffin)
I came here from Jessica Braun mentioning you do a history of brands, and I'm super excited you cover so much more! This is great!
i work at ulta, 21 days starts 3/13!
my jaw dropped, my eyes rolled to the back of my head, and I nearly fainted over with cringe when I learned BH stood for Badass with a Heart. *hurrrk*
regarding e.l.f. cosmetics, I do appreciate they are open and clear that prices will increase. I respect it. and good point about Colourpop quietly increasing their prices until I noticed that their 9-pan palettes went from $9 to $14!?! Every so often they will have a "sale" with their 9-pans going back to the $9 price and it's like... excuse you?
I had a cyst in my hairline that had to be cut and drained. That lock of hair grew back super curly until it was about six inches, then it became straight again. So your baby hairs may calm down once they reach a certain length.
Lol that was cute.. those hairs are called regrowth as well! But that's a GREAT thing.. although annoying! Haha as a hairstylist, I usually tell my clients to keep products at a minimal & def try not to put too much heat on those new hairs... what u can do is use a tiny mascara wand & some sort of clear gel/cream & focus it on those hairs to kind of plaster them down with the longer hairs.. but those little hairs ALWAYS want to stick out..but be proud that they are growing & def just try to baby them so they dont break off/fall out again!
Great news video!❤
In love with this look! The eyeshadow is so gorgeous, the hair, earrings, the shirt!
On March 4th 2019, BH made a blogpost from their official website that said BH stands for “Be Heard” cosmetics. I wonder if the “Badass with Heart” is a separate campaign from them that they lined up with their existing abbreviation, or if they changed the meaning later.
I work at a cosmetic store with multiple brands in Finland. We have thrashed all lilial containing products during beginning of the year. It is really unfair that Olaplex is getting bad reputation because there were so many products with lilial. I estimate that about 30% of our products were thrashed. Products from other high end brands like Calvin Klein, DKNY, Ted Baker, Clinique, Paul Mitchell, Prada etc. The law changed so products are reformulated, no brand is using harmful ingredients on purpose! What is the problem here... 😅
Kiitos tiedosta, kiinnostavaa kuulla miten täällä on asian kanssa toimittu
Can you do more videos on how you make colorful eyeshadow wearable. Like this look is stunning and I would never think “wow she’s wearing colorful eyeshadow”.
Lab Muffin broke it down perfectly. This is where I heard it first. She reposted the TikTok’s on YT too.
Your makeup look is super beautiful and creative 😍
I like that you are more than the usual beauty channel. You do have a lot of brand history and news. Super!
Cover FX is 50% off in store and online at Ulta so it seems like it might be going out of stores.
I was at an Ulta store this week and overheard a customer asking for Cover Fx. The employee told them supply was low because they were not going to be carrying it in store anymore. Nothing was mentioned about online.
@@julisabyars280 I chatted with the employee and it seems she wasn’t sure whether they were just going out of their store or all stores but them being on sale on their website indicates that ulta might stop carrying them.
This video just reminded me that I have the BH Cosmetics Carli Bybel pallette, but I have no idea where it is.
I appreciate elf announcing their price increase. It let's me know its not just the physical retailer hiking up prices (I'm looking at you CVS).
As for revolution buying bh cosmetics, I'm both happy and concerned. I'm happy the brand won't disappear forever. I'm concerned because I really dislike revolutions eyeshadow formulas even the "good" ones. I love bh's current formula that they have in the travel palettes and the weekend brunch collection. I think if revolution combines bh's good formula with their nicer packaging they can have a real winner.
My exact thoughts. I do not like revolutions formulas at all. I’ve tried so much from them and every time I’m like ughhhh the patchiness and the lack of pigment
Please film a get ready with me with this beautiful makeup look 😍
I love that ELF shared their price increase! Transparency is important for me. Give me a sense of trust with a brand!
Your skin is stunning! I've been a hairstylist for thirty years and yes, stress will make you lose a lot of hair!
I really like these updates!
I literally headed to the BH cosmetics website and I bought some stuff that I had my eye on and they're having some great sales (25 - 50 percent off!).
Thank you so much for these chats, informative and entertaining. Kudos to Elf for announcing the increase to their prices. I have only been using Elf for the past year. It was Holy Hydration Moisturizer and I was beyond pleased with the quality (I introduced it to many of my friends and they loved it too). I have since bought other products of theirs, some keepers, some not for me, but the quality and the price point can't go wrong. I was a bit worried when you said they were raising their prices. I had an Ordinary moment. Living in Canada there was a super high rise in price, to the point that buying higher end products that include several ingredients became cost effective. From 10 holey grail I have gone to two. So I am so pleased that Elf remains affordable and their increase is understandable and restrained.
Speaking of hair, would you ever do an updated hair care routine? I’m trying to grow mine out and you have a pretty similar hair type to mine.
Hi Kelly! I’m a curly hair girl and my daughter is a stylist. To get the baby hairs to lay down, I use a hair color brush, you spray hairspray on the brush and brush the hairs down. Use whatever hairspray you like! It works really well.🌺🌺🌺
I don't like the eyeshadow formula of Revolution... so I am worried and heartbroken. If acquiring bh means keeping their formula, great. But if the palettes of bh will get worse, I will be very sad.
I have to admit the Revo stuff is a huge gamble when it comes to their eyeshadows. My rule of thumb for those is if it looks like it belongs in a toy store I don't bother with it. 😅
I am worried for the same. I actually got the two BH palettes I have been eyeing just in case MUR messes them up.
Love your eyeshadow look❤️❤️❤️
Please tell us what you’re wearing on your cheeks? So stunning and glowy ✨✨
Yes I remember the 1-3 dollar e.l.f. prices, I think we must be the same age because I was just starting college when I got into elf as well, I basically used e.l.f as backup makeup for when I would stay at my dads house occasionally on the weekend if I had the days off, and I didn’t want to have to pack all of my makeup so I could just use a $20 bill and get all the essentials I needed. I still use their setting spray and their face wash since it’s a small size and I like it for on the go purse essentials
I love your eye shadow look today!!😍
How cute is she in a ponytail!!!
This is definitely my favourite type of content from you! More makeup deep dives etc
If you are thinking about it, I'd recommend buying a few of the bh travel palettes. The quality is excellent. Love in London, Smitten in Switzerland and Beautiful in Barcelona are gorgeous, and Avocado Toast is also a winner!
I have all of those too! They are superb. I also have all the birthstone collection and the LIT LIST holiday collection one. Had to resort to eBay to get them. I’m in Australia.
Thanks Kelly for the latest beauty news. Really good of ELF to announce their price increase. I do think the quality in the products is there and its only a slight increase. Regarding BH cosmetics, I just hope Revolution don't tamper with the formula of the eyeshadows etc. Would be a shame. Sending lots of love from the UK 🇬🇧 ❤️ xxxx
Thank you for finding the info from Olaplex! I was also wondering if the reformulation would be in the US
I don’t mind Elf pricing increasing at all. Their quality is getting better and better! I’m going to sound like an old person here but, kids these days are SO lucky because the quality is WAY better than when I started wearing makeup. I use Olaplex 3 times a week. That was a little alarming but, I am glad they are taking that ingredient out.
Right? "Gather round children, and let Nanna tell you about the dusty CoverGirl eyeshadows of yore..." Although they still are a little dusty, aren't they? LOL
@@gasparinha I see your dusty CoverGirl eyeshadows and raise you a lightly-pigmented blue Aziza shadow pencil.
Love your channel, new subscriber here ❤️🇬🇧
could you do a tutorial on your eye look in this video? pretty please :)
I love this eye look! Can you please recreate it on camera?! 😍
you wearing that cookies n cream palette is making me want to get it 😂
does anyone have top ELF recs? i’d like to make an order before the price increase! i appreciate them announcing it too. i’ve not really used their products but would like to try - their quality seems great esp at their price point.
p.s. my hairs have been growing back in at my hairline too! i definitely think it’s stress from 2021.
Edge control or Creme of Nature Argan Oil Snot for those baby hairs, but go in with a light hand as you have straight hair. As a woc with natural hair I tie my edges down with a satin scarf after laying them down. Does the trick.
I had some hair loss due to stress a year or so ago and noticed a change in the texture of the new hairs around my face too! I use a hair wax to smooth them out after I style. They calmed down after a few months and correcting a vitamin deficiency 🙂
Gosh I just heard when the dates will be for Ulta’s 21 days of beauty but I can’t remember where I heard it. And oh yes I so remember when Elf was $1 and $3. About BH, I really hope their formula doesn’t change.
march 13. i got a email saying it earlier. its also on hotfire makeup insta story
lab muffin is also on youtube, she has posted those videos as shorts too (for those who dont use other platforms)
this is really great that Makeup Revolution bought BH Cosmetics, now I may have it my country too :)
I can relate to the baby hair thing. I have wavy/curly hair naturally I don't really do much since I wear it up a lot. Also I see makeup geek is closing. I didn't know that bh stood for anything lol. Also appreciate that elf gave us a heads up on prices (their prices are pretty good so going up a dollar isn't that bad). Would you ever do a deep dive on elf?
Unrelated to beauty news, but I think a reason why people in the states start on makeup early is because it's accessible. In there (in comparison to where I live in latin america), a maybelline foundation is $8, here it is around $20. And it is among the "affordable" brands. So teens and tweens here just can't afford it easily. I think teens here, at most, get one or two products (like foundation and mascara), if any, and wear only that until they get a job and can get more things. We don't have affordable makeup per se, or if there is it is likely pretty bad quality or pretty sketchy.
Teens and tweens in the US can get a full face of stuff in dollar general and the like, so it takes less money to experiment, and there's more and moreplaces you can get makeup now (online, suermarkets, dugstores, malls, etc). I imagine teen Kelly had less options on location than you do now. Plus, tv shows with teens have actreses wearing more obvious makeup now than before (think comparing the euphoria teens with Rory from gilmore girls or the cast of mean girls), so there's more to copy now and it feels more normal
Shopmissa just came out with a hair paste in mascara form! Thought you might want to look into it! Enjoyed your video!
Thank you for the updates! 😎
Thank you so much for covering the Olaplex topic even though you're in the US. I'm in the UK so I appreciate it 💜
Love love love the hair today!! Looking great, Kelly!
I am having hair regrowth too and when you have hair thinning the hair normally comes back very curly and then eventually it comes back straight
Thanks for the heads up, but we don’t have a Sephora, nor Ulta in the UK XX
Praying my precious BH formula not to change
Absolutely love your eye look here! I'd love a tutorial on how you did it. Great video as always!
What lip combo are you wearing it’s so gorgeous
I'm not as excited about the Sephora Sale anymore. Even though I am Rouge, I find a lot of brands offering better sales on their sites.
Saw on Reddit that Ulta 21 days of beauty would begin March 13!
It was actually 3.9million, not billion. While that would be fantastic for BH if they actually made that much money, but then again if their market value was that high they wouldn't be going out of business. It's quite a surprisingly low amount for an established and beloved a brand as them to be sold for under 4 mil. Anyway, I hope Revolution doesn't piss all over BH's quality of eyeshadows, hopefully they can adapt and implement their formula and stay within the price range of the travel palettes. With the revenue and reach of MUR around the world, who knows it could be the best of both worlds, BH quality shadow stays, we don't have to sell an arm for a quality eyeshadow palette and Revolution reinvents their name and reputation!
This eye look is so pretty! I’m definitely going to try to recreate it later 💙
I’m liking these chatty videos you do lately. My comment might seem skippy, but, oh well. Give me your tips for growing hair😫😂 Regarding BH, I’m worried about BH’s eyeshadow formula. Hope it’s not going change… For me, I started doing makeup after I graduate high school, just before starting uni. I do understand ELF’s pov
Most other countries have banned a lot of ingredients that are not banned here. It’s concerning that the US is not as cautious as other countries seem to be.
I love lab muffin beauty science!!
A stylist would tell you to blow dry your fringe, raking it side to side. That should confuse the root and straighten the shorter hairs. It doesn't work for me -- just flattens out my roots. . .
Elf is a fantastic company, still offering great prices for amazing product, in this climate.
I work retail, SO many vendors we sell from...
We've had to raise the price for a 3rd time in the last 6 months! UGH!
Crazy times we are living in.
I use the sephora sales to stock up on the things I use up and repurchase. All my holy grails are only repurchased when I get 20% off. I spend a lot on skin care, hair care and makeup staples so it only makes sense to spend my money wisely and pay less for what I was going to buy anyway. Also because I get 20% off I use my account to snag deals for family and friends so I keep my status and don't have to be the only one spending the money to get it.
Idk if u use heat for ur hair but i use an electric metal comb which heats up to straighten my curly "baby hair". I hqve the same problem as u but i hav that all around my head where the haireline begins. Afro americans use that to straighten their hair or to straighten the short hair of their wigs too so there are no flying hairs on it.
I support ELF's price increases, and I'm a cheapskate so that's saying something lol. I really like what they've done with their makeup line and I LOVE what their skincare line has become. I don't mind paying more.
PS if you join their loyalty program, you get a LOT of money off! I recommend if anyone is concerned. I always get $6 to $8 off any order I make from them.
Let the curls go, or use colorwow dream coat prior to drying, styling, straightening to keep them in check.
I have relatively fine, straight hair, that has a slight natural wave to it, and, like you, new growth, drives me WILD!. My daughter, who has thicker hair than me, also gets new baby curls at the level of her scalp. One of the few products that have helped to tame this issue is Tigi's Bedhead After Party Cream. Re the Olaplex developments: I do feel that the issue was taken a little out of context. ELF has come a long way, and given their recent strong product development and performance (as well as the overall increase in drugstore level beauty prices), their increases are not surprising and not unreasonable.
i’m australian so the ELF price increase means absolutely nothing to me haha. their primers are almost $30 AUD over here, and the camo cc cream which i love can be found for up to $40 AUD. i don’t mind paying when it comes to products i like, but i feel like drugstore makeup can be very steep over here
I have a lot of breakage and last time i went to get my haircut my stylist told me theres a ton of short REALLY curly hairs. She said that just means they just grew in, so its a good thing! I dont think you really can do much about it so dont try to treat them with heat in any way since theyre fresh undamaged hair, they will eventually grow out into your usual hair texture so just let them be. if you rly care about getting them down just use some kind of hairspray.
I appreciate that Elf actually announced the price increase
I'm late to watch and comment today but I just had to say I could not stop laughing after you revealed what the BH in BH Cosmetics stands for and then said "that's the most cringey name I could think of" 😂
I leave my curly baby hairs be cause they're cute AF. BUT if I'm going for a specific look, gel is your friend. Get the hairs soaking wet, coat it in gel and shape to your head as you want it to lay, leave to dry. Once it's dry and crunchy you can gently comb the crunch out, best to be done with the fingers
It was the first makeup my mom bought me in middle school. An elf mascara and a revlon brown eyeliner that I didn’t even use often lol
I just got a bottle of Olaplex no. 3 from Ulta last weekend and that ingredient is not listed in the ingredients, fwiw.
I have super curly hair & my bangs are the curliest part! When there’s new growth for me, I sort of just finger coil it with some hair product to take it. I know that doesn’t help you 😅 but I haven’t straightened my hair since my birthday on March 13, 2020. So maybe add some hair spray or leave in to smooth out the section? 😅
Another amazing video! Love these updates/info about makeup brands! You look beautiful, with or without uncooperative hair. 😘
use hair gel for the baby hair.
Please check out edge cream or gel or the got 2 b gel for baby hairs you can use a spoolie or mini edges hair brush to lay edges/baby hairs❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love these beauty news videos
I do think it’s nice that ELF announced the price changes and I think the quality of a lot of their newer products is worth it. I’ve been using it since it was $1-$3 too, and I think their prices have been matched with quality improvement for sure
Yeah I agree, my makeup collection is 60% ELF and they’re products are worth it in my opinion.
which products would you recommend most?
princes change anyway...
I agree. The 1-3$ products they sold back in the day were fine for beginners but nothing special in terms of quality.
Elfs quality really improved and they have better products than more expensive brands such as Revlon and almay.
i agree
