Started cycling 4 years ago. Nowadays commuting 16km each day, so 100km now is like nothing, its only 4h on pavement with my cx bike , or 6h on mtb and dirt. You can easy do 100km every day. 100km is 2x0.5 water and maybe 2 bananas. 200km asks for one hotdog and some musli bars. But thats just me. 300km is great in summer, winter is not for me, because 13h on bike needs a lot of daytime, because riding in dark is kind of dangerous. The key is pacing.

I did my first 200+ mile ride last year, and it was a great experience. It was done over 2 days, 18 hours biking total, this year's goal is to do the event in 10 hours, 1 day!

I would definitely recommend this kind of ride during the warmer months of the year with longer day light.

I did a 185 mile gravel ride last year; 115 miles the following day. It felt great. My training rides leading up to that event were 80 to 100 miles.

My suggestion is to take also a toothbrush and toothpaste. During long rides, when eating and drinking all those sweet stuf, cleaning the teeth gives me a refreshment and new energy. IAnd don't forget to cut tootbrush handle :)

A question for experienced ones: how harder would it be to ride 300 km on tarmac using the MTB?
With some skinnier tires on and with comfortable gemotery, on which I can do 150 km without any serious pain or anything. I persume the wind would be the worst enemy, and the hand pain because of the limited hand positionig. But my question is how harder would it really be concerning the energy consumption.
    Thanks a lot!

In Sweden we have a ”Race” called Vätternrundan. It is 300 Km and goes around the lake Vättern :)
    You should check that out!

Just finished a 300 km ride in 3 days. As a person with only six months of experience riding a bike (yep, I didn't learn how to ride a bike as kid) it felt amazing to have been able to do this. Although I didn't plan the route ahead of time and relied solely on OsmAnd, I didn't face much difficulties. My ass hurt like a bitch on the last day, but other than that it was such an awesome ride and I would love to do it again one day.

It is getting very hard to find people that want to do something. I have noticed people give me a crazy look when I come up with these ideas. They say, why would you want to do that? I say, why wouldn't you want to do that?!?
But my friends and I just might be getting older.

I'm a little surprised to hear you could go with flat pedals. I was planing to go with SPD, but I was also considering flats. I like flats when I'm going in very unknown places so I can jump off and on a little easier. But I feel less tired going long distances with SPD.

I would not let my body to suffer from dehydration, not even on such a short trips. Watter & mental state is all what you need.

SB, for long-distance/time training for these rides, would you recommend doing these on a turbo trainer? i'm finding it extremely difficult to stay on my Neo for mroe than 1.5 hours, let alone 4-5...

i cycle on weekly basis perhaps few km at best, i train on regular basis so im actually in really good shape. I know that those two are complete opposites but im still gona go for it without any significant preparation. It's just simply something im focused on as overcoming a huge obstacle in a way. So is there anything i should be prepared as a complete rookie in bicycle marathon? And i do have some cardio experience since i go running on occasions for aprox 15-20km.

Your ass is going to hurt like a bitch. Your arms, hands, legs and knees too. Water and food are the most important things for you to survive, and a PowerBank that has up to 20000 miAh (or whatever the unit for it is). Other than that it's doable in 3 or 4 days. I did that this week, and it was the best experience in the world
