There's no legal requirement to be read these rights because you've been arrested. The only time that's required is when you're detained AND interrogated (i.e. specific questions that could incriminate you). Being read Miranda rights immediately upon being simply arrested is a common misunderstanding.
Also, he's a parolee in a criminal punishing state who was found with dope and a gun.... he can get time no matter what. The questioning isn't because there's no evidence, it's simply to stick the evidence they have. The only reason he got cut loose is because the investigators fucked up and didn't immediately cease questioning when a lawyer was requested. That is a violation of Miranda rights and is always grounds for immediate and unquestioned drop of charges. Not so much h the criminal bein smart, more so the investigators simply fucked up by continuing questioning when the lawyer was requested.

i watched a video as to why to not talk to cops from a law teacher. all caps cause its important: anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law BUT ANYTHING THAT CAN HELP YOU WILL BE DISMISSED AS HEARSAY. Always ask for a lawyer.
