I passed one of these GJ roses today at the Garden Center of my local grocery store. I'm going back for it tomorrow! I didn't realize it did so well with partial shade.
I have an 8 year old Gertrude Jekyll. It blooms 2 times a year. It has never grown hardly at all. But is on full sun the entire day. In going to move it to shade. Thanks for vital tip on shade.
Thanks for the video, this is very encouraging because my house does not have much sun and space, so containers and less shade is so awesome to hear!!!
I'm really glad y'all are doing a series focusing on each rose! I probably should have commented on the Strawberry Hill obeslisk video, but you've inspired me to pick up Strawberry Hill when they come back in stock, just based off the in-depth talk about her scent and growing style! I'm really glad y'all are doing a series focusing on each rose! This is probably one of my favorite videos you have done yet-- the set up and the timing with the light was perfection. You both look comfortable and so pleased, I love it. I can't wait to see which you do next-- I have Carding Mill, Bathsheba, The Generous Gardener, Munstead Wood, and Teasing Georgia, all of those being brand new to me this year, and also Imogen (if she survives... she's had a rough year) I look forward to seeing a rundown of the ones you have to tide me over 'til it's their time to bloom in 5b! In particular I'm curious about the shade tolerant roses. I've read on the DA website for each rose, and have seen which love shade (which is why I bought Generous Gardener) but then I've seen from some other youtubers that DAs in general need a lot of sun, which gave me pause. Thanks so much for taking time to do these videos and show us all your gorgeous blooms.
Wow, those roses are meant to stay with you! What a relief and lovely surprise to be able to take them with you, have the perfect shaded spot, and see them bloom so beautifully! I just planted 3 to climb and provide privacy on our back deck. Two of the three are leafing out, but one is just not doing so well. I hope they soon do as well as yours- what a stunning background for this sit down video! Really loving this series.
Hello! Thank you for joining us! It sure is good to be able to take the garden on our moves. Sounds beautiful the ones you have planted on your back deck! Cheering on the one that’s not doing that good! They are such tough roses. 😃🙏💐💚
I purchased this rose from David Austin and received it around March 18th and I plant it on March 21, 2022. It is May 6 and it has bloomed and it smells great. Thanks with the rose chat and keep up the good work.
Thanks for the rose episodes , I’ve always felt intimidated by roses but you have helped waylay through feeling , and by the way I love my cafesito as well.
Hello! Makes us very happy to read your comment. Roses are such beautiful plants. Love to help others see that they can grow these beauties as well. Cafesito!!! 😆☕️💚 Have a lovely day!🙏💐💚
It’s a beautiful rose and have enjoyed it very much. We just put out a new video today talking about Gertrude Jekyll and answering questions we often get asked. 🙏💐💚
I’m getting my first three roses this year and Gertrude Jekyll climbing rose is one of them. Your videos have been very helpful in making me decide which rose to get. I got Gertrude, Olivia Rose and Eustacia Vye 😍 can’t wait to see them bloom next year. You have a beautiful garden and great videos as well! Thank you 😊
,New subscriber Love the series . And your collection of rose's. Looking forward to watching your past videos. And learning how to care for them. From across the pond in the UK.🇬🇧
Love that you are doing these chats- I hope you can expand on them with a Q&A. I'd love to know how many roses you are able to fit in your garden? What are your favorite varieties?
Love these talks..it would be great to join u both for coffee...i have always love roses but never had success in pot..i will attempt to do it now..you both are soo lovely..n yr garden tours can be as long as you want bc it feels my heart with happiness...thanks
Great video. I got my GJ this year and I so appreciate your information. I looked up a lot of the information and why it was named after the English horticulturist. Thank you.
Hello!!! Missing home sweet home Texas! Not the hot and humid part 😂. Thank you for joining us on our rose chat. Can’t wait to grow some of these beauties back home one day. Have a wonderful day! 🙏💐💚
Hi there. I love your UA-cam. I really enjoy watching. Have you see from David Austin the Rose The Generous Gardener. I have it she is so delicately beautiful. I love all your Roses also
Loved it!! Because of your vlog, I ordered Gertrude and Jekyll, unfortunately I’m on the waiting list but still looking forward to it. I also got the Lemony Lace Elderberry. You guys are a great influencers!!!!
May 1, 2017 - Although most people who have seen the movies pronounce it 'Jekkle', the correct Scottish pronunciation is 'Jeekul', rhyming with treacle.
I planted one Gertrude Jekyll this spring and I can't wait how it is going to do in my garden ( I have a lot of shade) In my country Gertrude Jekyll is a "she" :-) I hope it looks so beautiful as yours!
Love this!!’ 💞 I have a similar Rose called Comte de Chambord. The fragrance is heaven! It’s a Portland Rose, and I think I read that it is one of the parents of Gertrude Jekyll 💘
Hello guys! Thank you for the information! I was looking for a flowering plant for my barn and the side of my house. Im going to have to look into this rose! ❤️❤️❤️
Great video. I’m learning so much about roses from your videos. How do you prevent and or handle black spot. I am NJ z7 and every year I have blackspot in my roses. TIA. Blessings!
Wow...you got three flushes from Gertrude Jekyll?? Mine only gave me one good one and a few sparse blooms in its second season, and it was in full sun. The Japanese beetles were a problem for this rose too. I'm in NC zone 7b so not too far from you guys 🙂 Is yours own root, or grafted?
Beautiful roses. I recently preordered Gertrude Jekyll as a bare root rose. Would you guys happen to know if this rose needs to be planted as deep as a grafted bare root rose? I’m going to plant it in a planter.
If it is in a planter you would plant it about an inch below the graft. Container soil is used up pretty quick over a few months so give yourself enough room to refill soil, and mulch. Sorry we responded so late.
Thanks for the series!! About a month ago, I planted two bare root Gertude Jekyll roses. Wheere do you live in VA? I am also in VA and am cocerned about black spot in the humidity. Thanks.
Curious, how many plants did you take with you when you moved? Was it worth it? How did you go about it? There are many, many people moving this summer and are probably wondering the same thing. Side note: I wish I had a place for a rose. The only sunny spot has herbs and vegetables. May have to try the Gertrude Jekyll since it seems to not mind some shade.
If you move and they are still in containers will you cut them down before moving? If so, will it survive and how long will it take to get back to this size? Edit: you answered part of my question I think. (About 2 full years)
Hello! Always nice to have you join us! 😃☕️💐 It would probably take about two years if we give it a hard pruning. We might cut them half way and tie them next time we move. 🙏💐💚
Difficult question. They are both have very old rose strong fragrance. I love both but because my favorite is Harlow I’m going to say Harlow Carr. Harlow Carr for some reason to me has a lemony scent it’s not supposed to but I always smell it and that’s why I love it. You can’t go wrong with both roses. If you want continuous blooming Harlow is the go to. 💐💚
Hello! Gertrude Jekyll is such a good rose for shady areas. We have one by our north side and two more on north with also limited light from west side. All three do wonderful. I think it would do really well for your garden area. 🙏💐💚
I passed one of these GJ roses today at the Garden Center of my local grocery store. I'm going back for it tomorrow! I didn't realize it did so well with partial shade.
That’s wonderful your grocery store has it! 😃🌸 It does amazing in shady areas and the fragrance unbelievable. 💐💚💚💚💚💚💚
I love how you as a couple share this passion for flowers.
I have an 8 year old Gertrude Jekyll. It blooms 2 times a year. It has never grown hardly at all. But is on full sun the entire day. In going to move it to shade. Thanks for vital tip on shade.

Very informative video. Y'all are the reason why I will be definitely purchasing Gertrude Jekyll. Thank you!
At first I thought: Where is the cafesito? But then it came on the table and I made me one too. Cheers for Gertrud Jekyll! This series is awesome. :-)
Oh that cafesito is a must! 😆☕️ So glad you enjoyed! 🙏💐💚
Thanks for the rose episodes , I’ve always felt intimidated by roses but you have helped waylay through feeling , and by the way I love my cafesito as well.

I bought my first Gertrudes Jekyll after seeing a video of yours. I currently have two and will be the first flowering.
Thank you so much for your input! I will get Gertrude Jekill because it seems so frangrant and vigorous that it's worth the care.
It’s a beautiful rose and have enjoyed it very much. We just put out a new video today talking about Gertrude Jekyll and answering questions we often get asked. 🙏💐💚
Thank You SO much for educating me-I also am LOVING the series!!
Love the series... will you be talking about how you take care of the roses like what products you use to treat black spot, how and when to fertilize?
Hello! Thank you so much for watching and glad you enjoyed. We will be making a video on the rose care soon. 🙏💐💚

Hello!!! Missing home sweet home Texas! Not the hot and humid part 😂. Thank you for joining us on our rose chat. Can’t wait to grow some of these beauties back home one day. Have a wonderful day! 🙏💐💚
Worked backwards on these videos but I love them. Can we get more or what you want to purchase for next year
Hi there. I love your UA-cam. I really enjoy watching. Have you see from David Austin the Rose The Generous Gardener. I have it she is so delicately beautiful. I love all your Roses also
You should check Zephirine Drouhin climbing rose , it’s thornless and can tolerate shade too.
"JEE-kyl"
Great video! Thank you. I just bought a shrub that was in bad shape. I cut it down and am hoping for the best.
Awesome! 😃💐💚
Loved it!! Because of your vlog, I ordered Gertrude and Jekyll, unfortunately I’m on the waiting list but still looking forward to it. I also got the Lemony Lace Elderberry. You guys are a great influencers!!!!

I’m going to be practicing this thank you. I hate to butcher the names of these beautiful roses. 🙏💐💚
I planted one Gertrude Jekyll this spring and I can't wait how it is going to do in my garden ( I have a lot of shade) In my country Gertrude Jekyll is a "she" :-) I hope it looks so beautiful as yours!
Wonderful! I think you will love this rose! 😃💚 And yes it’s a she! His could I forget! Lol Ambrose told me I kept calling it a he! 😜 🙏💐💚
Hello! Yes it’s a beauty! Thank you for visiting! 🙏💐💚
You can plant clematis behind Gertrude Jekyll, so when flowers or leaves faded , clematis can take over the empty spot, a great combination.
We will be moving soon and I will definitely add clematis to Gertrude Jekyll in our new home. It’s a great idea for this rose. 😃🙏💐💚
How do you have such great foliage.
Great video. I’m learning so much about roses from your videos. How do you prevent and or handle black spot. I am NJ z7 and every year I have blackspot in my roses. TIA. Blessings!
Hi, i really enjoy to learn from you guys how to take care of roses, thanks for your time.
My question is, can roses be kept iin selfwatering pots?.

I have a question. I have a Gertrude Jekyll climbing rose and I've taken a cutting that's rooted. Will my cutting be a climber or a bush? Thanks.
Looking for an update on this rose this year
Where do you find these David Austin varieties? I don’t think my local big box stores carry them?
If you move and they are still in containers will you cut them down before moving? If so, will it survive and how long will it take to get back to this size?
Edit: you answered part of my question I think. (About 2 full years)
Hello! Always nice to have you join us! 😃☕️💐 It would probably take about two years if we give it a hard pruning. We might cut them half way and tie them next time we move. 🙏💐💚

The color is beautiful! Does Gertrude Jekyll need lot of sunshine? My balcony faces north with limited sunlight from the west side.
Hello! Gertrude Jekyll is such a good rose for shady areas. We have one by our north side and two more on north with also limited light from west side. All three do wonderful. I think it would do really well for your garden area. 🙏💐💚
I’m really inspired to go ahead and grow this rose! Do you recommend purchasing barefoot or 2 quart pots?
Both do really well. We do recommend from bare root if possible. They do put on skit more growth sooner. 🙏💐💚
What diqmeter pots do you use
What do you use to prevent black spots and insects?
We use IV Organics spray we use it for the entire garden has many uses. 💚💚💚💚💚💚
@@GardenObsessions where can you buy that at? Can you show what it looks like?
There is a link in the descriptions shows where to buy with a discount code.
Hi whats the size of the pot?
About a 15 gallon pot. 💐💚
Gertrude Jekyll is definitely a "She".
