Great, I wish more analysis like that surfaces. One little proposal: always test original arcade PCB or consoles with 15Khz output to CRT monitors to get proper timing readings.
Great vid and slightly more accurate than me pressing play on a YT vid of the arcade game whilst starting a credit on the PS4 port when I tried to check it for myself It might be worth noting that the Taito the Best Jp PS2 releases fixed a lot of issues (mainly input lag related) that existed in the original releases of the collections. I'm not aware of G-Darius having any of it's issues fixed but if you know someone with the rerelease, it might be worth getting them to compare it to a video of the 1st release. Also, I've no idea if the international Taito collections were based on the originals or rereleases, so there's a chance they may run differently too
I don't have access to that version of the game, but if anyone has a capture device that can record 60fps and wants to donate the footage, just throw it my way, hint hint.
I wonder now if the “G. Darius for Consumer” edition would have to be compared to the original ps1 version now they confirmed a spot for it in the remaster
Yeah the Taito Memories and Taito Legends 2 US versions do play faster, but the only other version of the game I have besides these 2 , IS the PS1 port, so the PS2 versions will do fine for me. I personally don't mind it in this case, especially after playing the PS1 port for years.
Well, that's some interesting findings. Even I saw that there's a PC port of G-Darius on this video and is worth getting (If the prices aren't excessive) that is on par with the Cozmic Revelation version.
2.0 for the HD release has a toggle to reduce slowdown. Some players will prefer the arcade-accurate slowdown but that was largely from a hardware restriction rather than intentional, unlike some other shmups where the developers intentionally added slowdown to certain fights to help the player out.
Icarus, regarding the sorcer striker (ps4) autofire setting (it ranges from 10 to 30), is higher always better, or are there disadvantages to using the highest setting? Thanks
It would be nice if they could add the taito legends hard mode to g Darius hd. But I suppose I will settle for ver 2. Does anyone know how ver 2 changes the gameplay speed?
Great effort. This type of transparent, in depth, analytical academic review is much appreciated. Thank you.
thank you, this is well done!

Can't help but wonder if the findings would be any less different on a PS4 PRO or a PS5...
Awsome video.don’t suppose you could do a video Stg weekly style for ibara
Fascinating. Had the UK PS1 version back in the day and my friends still said the game was too hard :p.

At this point you shouldn't bother, Taito and M2 confirmed G Darius HD to come out on Steam soon, so the PC version is soon to be obsolete
Great!! What can I say!!! Of course , PS1 is very slow down, only on PS2 and Simulation
Ps4 and switch tries to emulate the arcade slowdown
Awesome vidoe. Did anyone ever check to confirm if the v2 update had any effect on these numbers?
