Adventure 4WD is the only other one I can think of... I have been following Chris for years. Different content type though, he's mostly travelling solo. Chris was some kind of IT guy, divorced. He sold/packed up everything and just took off in his jeep. Sink or swim. He's still swimming!!!! The opportunity is there but you need to always be finding the new and interesting.

Of all of these kind of videos, this channel consistently not only published the most content, but the highest quality content. The post-production work and the camera work (both of which have to be a tremendous pain in the ass) are simply incredible considering what limited resources are available/used by the channel. I lived vicariously through channels like this and especially this channel as the quality of the videos allows me to even more to the places and events - as if I was riding along.
I can't say that Shawn's videos are saving lives, but they are certainly improving, inspiring, and entertaining lives. And that's a pretty huge accomplishment.

Wow, it was funny to hear you talk about the van life folks in that manner, but was refreshing to see and hear your candor. Even though I partake in watching these kinds of videos from time to time- to be honest I've kind of said it the same way about you guys, bummed how you've brought everyone and their kitchen sinks outdoors. Hope you enjoyed your visit into our beautiful country.

Yeah, I found it ironic that a Canadian tourist was complaining about all the tourists in an area of California which has long been known to be overused, hence the recent restrictions on the camping in that area.
It would be like me going to Banff and complaining about all the tourists there.

I've been watching off road UA-cam channels for a long time... I even just started a small one myself. I gotta tell ya man, none of the other "big" off road channels (lite Brite, trail recon, jailbreak over lander etc...) even come close to your production value). They are all great, don't get me wrong... But this channel has so much more depth to it than any other. You know how to tell a story and your cinematography is quite simply amazing. Thank you for all your hard work and inspiration. I'd be happy to get even a quarter of the way to the level your channel is at. Which, by the way, you deserve WAY MORE subs than you have at the moment. I know our niche isn't for everyone, but you should definitely be well above the other off road tubers when it comes to subs. You guys rock bro. Definitely my favorite channel.

Shaun, what I love most about your videos is how you keep the video rolling even during the sketchiest of situations you find yourself in. Of course that’s what makes the story, but I’m sure I’d be like, screw the video, I’ve got to get out of this situation alive! But this is what separates yourself and your content from the rest. True professional. Thank you!

Great first episode, Dave. Shaun, I was going to ask you how you really felt about van lifers, but from the comments before me it looks like you might be explaining that one for a long time! Alabama Hills was crowded even before the current van life and off-roading trends. Beautiful place, but way too damn many people. Oh, and if that guy drives down six times a year, he should probably learn how to pronounce “Mono Lake”-there are some weird pronunciations in that area… not sure why.

You are the Spielberg of off-road UA-camrs -- absolutely gorgeous cinematography! You should have at least several hundred thousand subscribers. I think if you added regular segments in your videos that focus on the camping aspect -- campfires, cooking, camp gear -- then the channel's appeal would broaden and the subscriber base would grow much faster. Though I have camped quite a bit this year I've probably spent even more time looking at campfire cooking on UA-cam. It is the next best thing to being there....

Dude, I've commented so many times on how inspiring your work is. I youtube for fun on my channel (planning too), but I'm inspired by you. The work to run around, see the shot, take the shot, then edit, and start over again is tiresome. So many people think it takes away from the adventure and in some ways it does, but to make it seem so seamless takes a special talent, and you are the man. I agree on the drone comment, you are incredible at seeing something without seeing it, then shooting it if that makes sense. Lol. On a personal note, I do wonder how you balance family life. I can't imagine it being easy but your wife and family must be incredibly supportive. Great job buddy.

Man I feel you on Alabama Hills - that's in my neck of the woods (a couple hours away). It was SOOOO depressing about them closing down most of the areas there. It's just become to "van life" popular and it's always hammered there now. One night I was able to sleep out there but it was a nightmare. I suppose I'll see where you end up in the video but at 20:43 I can so relate. Its kind of depressing that I've lived so close and just recently learned about that area only to be really unable to explore and enjoy it. Well, and if you happen to be out there when it's windy (most of the time) it can be miserable out there...

I am so glad you didn't go to film school, they teach bad habits. You do a much better job than most UA-camrs and I've not seen a movie in years that didn't irritate me. You keep your music to a tolerable level so that I can actually hear what you're saying. It's such a problem with many channels that I often find myself wishing that UA-cam would ban music entirely. You also do great camera work and don't screw it up with ridiculous filters.

You're a source of inspiration for us, the ones behind the screen, that might also have a similar hobby to yours (off-roading/overlanding) but don't take the full benefit out of the hobby because we are... mainly we're scared. Scared of failure, scared of the unknown, scared of losing the comfort we're used to, scared of NEW in general.

You've always made excellent videos that seem to strike the right balance between the personal & the great wilderness! I wish you all the best for all involved, from England

Sometime i wanna sell my taft gt for economic issue, it is my trail to explore and advanture the nature but when i see it and rethink its so hard to let it go because i will lose a big value of life balance and its priceless..

It's like making an entire TV show, except by yourself, and for less money.

Another great video! I'm just a few hours away and haven't yet been there, maybe this winter. But you can't go to Alabama Hills and then complain about tourists and vanlifers. That's a tourist area and accessible to vans, only makes sense. You gotta find the spot you did where they can't go. Jeepers, vanlifers, overlanders, everyone is taking over these places, just the way it is unfortunately. These places are more and more accessible to everyone and we're all paying the price for sure.
