Dont know if you guys gives a shit but if you are bored like me atm you can stream all the latest movies on InstaFlixxer. Been streaming with my gf these days :)
seems like every piece of gear has that 'one' youtube video that does it better than any others. this is definitely it for the DFAM! thank you! Very useful! ❤️🎧❤️
I've seen this exact same comment on at least 3 other videos on this synth, lol. I always chuckle when I see them because I always find other videos that are just as good, just different.
Excellent video. Was going to write exactly what Daryl W-M wrote but why repeat a great comment, however this is the best DFAM intro video I've seen. Wait, that's what he said!!!
Simple explanations, following a logical path through the development of sound and the modulation of those sounds coupled with excellent video and audio skills make this one of the very top videos on the DFAM. Excellent work!
EXCELLENT Tutorial and demonstration for beginners and advanced synthesists with a little patience who want a solid overview. well done, very nicely produced vid. thanks much and cheers! o7🐛
Excellent overview / tutorial. I've had a DFAM a few months now. Love it but I've been a bit lazy. Mainly started with a template overlay and tweaked from there. Need to start from the ground up and your videos have really helped. Cheers ;-)
Throbbing gristle had this as a self build kit in the late seventies...."I. WANT...........D I S C I PL I N E!!!!!!" ....top marks going to run this through effects for synthmush excellence's
It would be a perfect machine if you could trigger steps 1 to 8 with CV over 8 patch points. You could play 8 different drum sounds triggered externally like this.
I like the way he said if used in isolation right then I was thinking covid19 lol but Yeah it’ll definitely pass some time that’s for sure. Nice machine looks deep.
A lot of the value is in the patch bay, it's much more worth it if you own or intend to get a mother 32/ subharmonicon or a full eurorack, or any modern semimodular gear
Acid Man Nice! I’d get one too if I hadn’t to be as budget conscious as I am. Not even being able to set the number of steps in a percussion sequencer makes me think that I am giving them 200 USD for something that doesn’t have use. But wait... the Mother 32’s sequencer is rather decent, isn’t it? That makes this sound even more expensive. The MFB Tanzmaus will have to stay at the top of my list in the drum boxes department.
I'm just sick of the same damn sounds. All my shit sounds the same and it's driving me nuts. I know new gear isn't the solution, but I like gear. I've heard a few videos with this thing, and well..... I got bit. The 8 steps is rather limiting, but the sonic possibilities are endless.
Peter Mossberg I agree but the questions are how much limitation is needed to motivate experimentation while keeping it interesting, and, since this is a commodity, how those limitations are reflected in the price. There’s tons of gear excellent for experimentation under $500 USD (even many below $300). They allow for differing ranges and kinds of experimentation. The DFAM Offers a wide range of experimentation with synthesis and a low range of experimentation with rhythmic organization. Something like the Digitakt, for $50 more, offers a wider range of experimentation with acoustic timbres (since it is a sampler), quite less with synthesis (although can be used as a decent sample based synthesizer), and a lot more with rhythmic organization. From this viewpoint, the DFAM appears overpriced. Now, I understand that in some cases experimentation synthesizing percussive sounds might be the central need. In those cases, people might seen this as appropriately limited and justly priced (mostly if they don’t need to restrict their budgets). In other cases (probably a lot more) people can feel they can get more (or wider) areas for experimentation for a more convenient price.
well thanks for the tutorial, but to be honest, this is so far the most unspectacular demo i have heard of this, would not sell it to me, --- ok going to part two now
While I agree that this is not the most spectacular demo as you put it, since there are many other vids that showcase the DFAM making wonderful and weird rhythms and beyond, this is however a great starting point for how to begin to get to know the instrument. - And I say this as a DFAM owner - I too watched the countless other videos where the DFAM is making awesome sounds, and they were in fact what helped “sell it to me”, but after making the purchase I came back to this particular video that clearly laid out the basic starting points for understanding the instrument and then explored my way off into those otherworldly sounds it can produce.
My Blue Extremes it's a good place to start. Sold all my semi mod and now I have almost 12U of euro that incorporates stuff that doesn't even exist any other way :)
It's all moog and fat of cause, and the handling looks really fun, but to be honest the results sound a lot like the good old digital Korg ER-1, maybe plus some stereotypical fart machine sounds that you can do with any analogue synth. Also, an 8-step sequencer on a $600 synth in 2018, seriously? Anyway, it does sound cool and it's modular, so whatever.
I've created this interactive Patch Maker tool - now you can mark your setup in less than one min and upload it for everyone to use - can't wait 🙏 ua-cam.com/video/JmQ9GnrRFVM/v-deo.html
Resembles tonic PO guts...granted pocket operators sequencing and motion effects are far better than this ....if monologue (korg) had a better filter it could easy beat this one..but the patch bay makes a Heluve lot different...overall this sounds great..:)
Hahah. You called it "D-FAM" - that's so much more useable than D F A M, or saying the whole damn thing DRUMMER FROM ANOTHER MOTHER (mouthful). D-FAM sounds way cooler.
prospectnyc Believe it or not, we asked Moog what they were calling it (for the exact reason you stated) and they told us D-FAM. But I probably would have called it that anyway :)
Mike ....constructive criticism ahead !!: IMHO the intelligibility of your videos will increase by 1) Using sentences 2) Varying the Intonation and pitch of each sentence 3) And not increasing the pitch of your voice at every sentence end ! ( makes each statement sound like a surprise - which it isnt ). You have so much knowledge and talent , if you add this to it...you'll be awesome and get more views . After all the whole video ( and synthesis ) is about frequency, timing, modulation, subtle changes in velocity and pitch.... I guess its not a bad idea to start with ones one voice too.... No offense intended ! Truly ! ( Morgan Freeman made a living with his voice modulation right ? )
pretty cool, but unfortunately it seems that moog continue with their exaggerated stuff.i know they have a great history at analog synthesizers and all that, but their products are really overpriced at this point.
Every Eurorack UA-camr says that the Mother-32 and this are a BARGAIN compared even to non-Moog modular modules. Have you compared prices? I would never buy one of the typical Moogs but what the Mother-32 and this have to offer is VERY good for the price A damn Morphagene already costs about 500 Euros!
This is the best DFAM introduction I've seen. Thanks.
Dont know if you guys gives a shit but if you are bored like me atm you can stream all the latest movies on InstaFlixxer. Been streaming with my gf these days :)
@Coen Brodie yup, I have been watching on InstaFlixxer for since december myself =)
I agree. Excellent intro. Second part still to come for me. First part is great!
yes it is.
Yeah, I think still the best DFAM intro. thank *YOU*
nice demo, its really informative. new dfam owner here and I appreciated this vid!

Best demo of DFAM available! Thank you!

easily the best DFAM vid I have watched :)
EXCELLENT Tutorial and demonstration for beginners and advanced synthesists with a little patience who want a solid overview. well done, very nicely produced vid. thanks much and cheers! o7🐛
Please do the same with "subharmonicon" !!!
Very nice, clear and informative, thank you. Best intro I've seen on the DFAM.
I knew I recognized your voice! Good to see you online Mike. I still have your old podcasts and listen occasionally. They were the best.
Thanks! I always enjoyed making those, so I'm very glad to hear that they still get listened to now and then :)
great demo, clear and concise.
What a superb video.
Amazing vídeo! Thanks a lot
Excellent video. Very well explained and produced. Thank you!
Best Tutorial on the DFAM! Thanks! Like the close-ups!
Very good tutorial!
Super informative! Thank you!🙏❤️🖖
Good tutorial. Nice work. Keep it up!
Thank you so much for this!
Very impressed with this. Great job illustrating how to use it.
Thanks!
Nice review, can't wait for the part 2!
Excellent quality audio/video, thanks for sharing!!
Excellent video, thanks
Fantastic video and great reference for how to use it.
Great Vid! Really comprehensive. Many Thanks!!
Awesome demo of this beautiful little beast...
Thanks!
Excellent explanation and tutorial, you've earned a subscribe. Thanks for making this vid, keep it up!
Great video! Looking forward to part two. Definitely sold on one of these.
Glad you enjoyed it! Working hard on part 2 - check back soon.

Very clear, really useful … thank you
Great tutorial
great video, nicely explained!
Good work!
Man you are so good at this
Really nicely done! Thanks for a concise + clear video -- just ordered my DFAM today, can't wait to try it out now! :)
I also ordered one today after watching this. Enjoy!
I learned so much in this video
great vid
Thanks!

the beginning sounds like Depeche Mode's Suffer Well!
Nice video!! Could you share the model of the eurorack case shown at the begining of tge video please?
Its just those little knobs? Saw one dude put bigger matching ones over them, much better. Sound wise this is great, paired with another drum machine.
seems like DM used this in "Playing the Angel"
sounds like DMs Suffer Well
I like the way he said if used in isolation right then I was thinking covid19 lol but Yeah it’ll definitely pass some time that’s for sure. Nice machine looks deep.
Nice!
Thanks - glad you enjoyed it!
Sonic Scenarios would love to know your opinion on my videos..
so could I trigger the vco`s/vcf/vca with an external 4-stage envelope? sorry, Im lacking the modular knowledge
hey thanks!
got a question, can you also set the steps to 7 instead of 8?
You may have found it already but theres a video on the Moog website that shows how to achieve just this.
can you sample and feed this into a sequencer/sampler like an Octatrack or modular Bitbox device to tweak the sounds?
Sure, why not?
I was very well received at the Control store in Brooklin, NYC.
Thanks! luizinhosalles1
Kraftwerk machine.
The DFAM begs for it to be used with effects. I have a whole bunch, can’t wait to get one.
Will it be avalaible soon?
it is already
NEED.
I'm so torn on this piece of kit after seeing it used in a demo for another synth. It's so cool. But... $500-$650... agggh.
A lot of the value is in the patch bay, it's much more worth it if you own or intend to get a mother 32/ subharmonicon or a full eurorack, or any modern semimodular gear
Hi, can it do less than 8 steps ?
simplestickman , Technically yes this is an official tutorial by Moog ua-cam.com/video/XFVykv4DV2w/v-deo.html .
Lovely synthesis but what’s up with the lame sequencer Moog?
I don't think they have the capability to make a modern sequencer. They're stuck in the dark ages. But great video and I am going to get one.
Acid Man Nice! I’d get one too if I hadn’t to be as budget conscious as I am. Limitations make improvisation and experimentation, i think the limiting sequencer is very intentional.

Reminds me my monotribe!
Total
Get a couple Jomox modules and pair with your sequencer of choice, I guarantee you'll get something a lot punchier and more interesting.
Which modules did you have in mind?
My Blue Extremes modbrane 11 and modbase 09.
Ah right. Semi mod works for me rather than case and modules..
My Blue Extremes it's a good place to start.
Sold all my semi mod and now I have almost 12U of euro that incorporates stuff that doesn't even exist any other way :)
What? A copuple of jomox modules? Nowhere near the amount of craziness this thing supplies
Anyway, it does sound cool and it's modular, so whatever.
but why, we already have 1000s of synths that do this a lot better?
this is only 500 quid and sounds as good as the rest.
Do we? name some please
I too would like to know what are the synths that you're referring to
I've created this interactive Patch Maker tool - now you can mark your setup in less than one min and upload it for everyone to use - can't wait 🙏 ua-cam.com/video/JmQ9GnrRFVM/v-deo.html

It has no goddamn midi.
🤘
Get a midi to stereo jack and feed it thru advance.

.....and I need this why ???
to make experimental electronic music maybe? or you could stick to your roland tr8 hahaha
If you need to ask, maybe you don't need it. That's fine. Most people will never need a defibrillator or blood transfusion in their lives.
Instructions unclear. I'm in a spaceship now!
This one and mother 32...one day...
Sorry Moog! But check noise engineering module or mutant hexinverter or even audio damage module! Sound way much better and versatile!
Weirdo
Nani

I don't hear drums .... Glitch percussion ...... hmmmm
I agree. And I think that's great. But "Glitch Percussion From Another Mother" or GPFAM is a bad name, so…
Fake Wabbit It can do drums too. Easily.
8 steps? Are you serious
It's enough :)
very complex instrument...you better have time for it....
A too poor sequencer, very limited, height steps, that's all...
Dude has got some creepy fingers, I can't watch any more.
maybe for a 75 bucks...........but come on guys........
pretty cool, but unfortunately it seems that moog continue with their exaggerated stuff.i know they have a great history at analog synthesizers and all that, but their products are really overpriced at this point.
