Mark! You are such an awesome person. So much talent and so willing to share with all of us. Thank you! The pieces were amazing and the poem was magical. Love you Mark 😊
Wow JUST SIMPLY AMAZING Mark!!! I am so glad we both have shared our love and inspiration of one of natures most fantastic event!!! Love you dear!!! ❤❤❤❤
Glad you enjoyed it! And it was such a pleasure and honour to collaborate with you on this creative paint and write idea. Your piece is absolutely stunning 🤩
Fantastic Mark!! I love your poem as much as your painting. You know I always love when you do a border. Thanks for sharing with us. Have a great day. 😊💖
You are really an artist. A wonderful mind and artist. I do love this creation with these different superpositions of different shapes. It is wonderful, interesting and your poem! So, so wonderful. I love it 🎉❤
Love the creation, but I especially love the poem! What a treat that was to hear your feelings about what you saw! Thank you for sharing. I'm heading on over to see Amber's creation. I love collaborations!! Denise ❤
What a gorgeous piece! And the poem was such a beautiful addition. You are such a gifted artist. Your creations speak from the heart! Always a pleasure to watch you create!
Oh Mark, this is so beautiful. What a great idea to first cover your paint and then partially remove the gel. I'm glad you don't run out of wonderful creative ideas. This was a lot of fun to watch. Also, it makes me happy that you shared your lovely poem about the northern lights. I like it a lot. Awesome job! 🖒💖💚
Love it! Reminds me of when I was a child. I’d color my page with many colors of crayons then go over it all with black. Took some sort of tool and scrape designs. Just like this. I’m excited to see this. Good memories. This is beautiful. Love the poem. Very touching.
Très belle toile, j’adore la bordure elle fait ressortir les couleurs des aurores boréales encore plus. Ton poème était aussi très touchant. Tu es un artiste très inspirant ♥️
🤩 Hello Mark. This is very interesting painting. I like it very much. It is colorfull and elegant all in one. I love the colorfull design you have created. All this lines and different depths... ❤ I am curious about your next painting 😉. Alena
Another great technique to take on board and run with. Exciting and something to explore during in my art group’s weekly sessions in local village hall during winter months when fluid art is off the menu for me. Thanks Mark you have such an inventive mind.
As a writer and artist (I used to be a musician and singer as well), I love how you combined art forms for this! Thank you for another inspiration. Now off to check out Amber.
@MarkJRatcliffeArt its in yalls blood so to speak. Any good poems & literature come from that area of the world. Start a journal with yr writings. I came across a old notebook last week where I had written all kinds of poems & stuff & it was so cool reading what my thoughts were yrs ago.
Mark, do you sit and think about the composition of your paintings or does it just strike you like a lightning bolt? I love the format of this. The black border framing it is perfect. Space is the boundary of the northern lights. Today, though, we aren’t seeing the northern lights the way they appear in the sky. You’ve drawn back the curtain and showed us a bit of the chaos that accidentally creates the serene beauty of the northern lights. It’s like a prequel! The way you applied the paint to the canvas in broad brush strokes represents the random distribution of oxygen and nitrogen atoms in the upper atmosphere. The use of the black gel represents how we don’t yet see the potential of the atoms. Your tools represent the charge imparted to the atoms, the intensity of the color based on the density of the color underneath and how much gel the tool removed. It is different, but still an awesome thing to see. And your poem reminds us of the gift that nature shares with us. (It also reminds us that you’re multi-talented!) ❤ Thank you for sharing your gifts with us.
Thank you soooo much!! I love your description above. I have some ideas but I really let myself go and enjoy the freedom when I do pieces like this. I want to feel the emotion when I paint.
Mark, again you don’t disappoint. Nice work! Could you let me know the measurements for mixing the gel medium with the black paint? Also is the gel medium Matt or gloss? Thank you
Interesting! I have to say this my least favorite of the series but I like the concept of doing the colors first then the black paint on top and removing it to reveal the colors. I would just do it differently to make it look lifelike, then again I am not an artist nor do I have any talent, lol. Thank you for doing this series and inspiring me. Btw, your poem was great!
Mark! You are such an awesome person. So much talent and so willing to share with all of us. Thank you! The pieces were amazing and the poem was magical. Love you Mark 😊

Thank you so much - I’d say 1:5 paint to gel

This doesn't really look like the northern lights. But I suppose you were inspired by them.
Oh no never mind, thanks for watching and taking the time to comment
