Brendan, I seem to have heard that vector "masks" (not sure if mask is the correct word) are much smaller compared to pixel masks like the one you created with the person/backpack. Is it true and, more importantly, is it an advantage worth keeping in mind to avoid our edited files getting to be too large? Thank you!
I think you may be worrying about the wrong thing. To me file size matters less than functionality. I am not sure of the exact difference in file size, but I’d imagine it is marginal. For photo editing or digital artwork, layer masks are way easier to work with. You can edit them with gradients, brushes, selections, etc. A vector mask doesn’t work with any of those tools and only works with paths. They are more cumbersome to use for the needs of most people using PS IMO. The people who would find vector masks the most helpful are probably using Illustrator. If I am worried about file size, I start rasterizing smart objects, applying layer styles, or merging layers. I will rarely part with my layer masks 😂
Awww maaan! This makes the pen tool so easy to understand, I should have seen this video 2 years ago but better late than never, great tutorial indeed. I am grateful. 🙏
i remember my boss (who only knew magic want and quick selection tool) judging me for using Pent Tool and ended up impressed by how accurate my selections were.
oh my gosh! I had to upgrade my laptop and I downloaded photoshop and lightroom onto it. *^&^%&^(*^*( ! nothing is the same in this new version!!! I'm having to relearn the simplest tasks like selecting the the selection tool, etc. This is really hurting me, but your pen tool video is very helpful. I didn't know how to use it before. I don't know how this is gonna work out, but I'm totally lost now. Not with the pen tool, but with Ps/Lr in general. Why do they do this???!!! Thank you for this video. At least I can start using the pen tool.
They are still there as of Sept 18/24 in Photoshop CC. You should click the three dots at the bottom of the toolbar to edit the toolbar. Perhaps the other tool options are not added to your toolbar for some reason.
FANTASTIC!! GREAT !! Love this video. Thanks I was just going through this problem with the Color. Blue logo and the pen line was blue. Seeing this up'ed my knowledge. 🙏🏼
Brendan, thank you so much! This is the best pen tutorial I've seen in a long time. I have to remind myself often, unfortunately, however, finding this tutorial saved the day for me.
Dear Brendan, a great tutorial on the pen tool. But do you use a mouse or a graphics tablet with, for example - Wacom Intuos Pro? Thank you and greetings Henk
Thank you a lot for such an outstanding lesson helps me know a lot use of pen tools. None but only your tutorial included clear and elaborate discussion on pen tools. 🎉
Brendan-this is by far the best instruction video I’ve seen regarding the pen tool! Thanks a million. The last comment you made-practice-is soooo true. I watch all your videos more than once.
This was much more in depth than what I expected. All I can say is well done. Oh, one thing, you mentioned leaving a similar drawing for us to try. I couldn't find the link.
Thank you for mentioning that. I have added the link to the description! You can also click here: www.pexels.com/photo/man-in-brown-jacket-and-brown-hat-standing-on-rock-near-lake-3217911/

Thank you for that tip ,You saved me so much time
I loved the lesson! I was wondering if you could teach about adding to a selection and subtracting from a selection. Are there any shortcuts to them?

I can't find Freeform and Curvature Pen tools. Has Adobe gotten rid of differenet types after any update?
