  • My front right tire hit a curb and broke my control arm bent the subframe in the passenger dash airbag went off even though no one was in the seat and the driver seat belt tensioner fired. a bunch of the documentation I had said front impact sensors were located near the headlights. only recently saw a different Volvo document that said they were in the B pillar (vertical body post between front and rear doors) and the rear impact sensors were in the B pillar (between rear door and rear wheel). wanted to help show folks where they are located as well as discuss how I tested the impact sensors and seat belt tensioner.
I replaced the airbag to two front impact sensors and my driver seat tensioner and my AutoPhix es610 scan tool did reset the SRS faults but the car still won't start giving me immobilizer dash notification and alarm system service required. This car is getting frustrating.
UPDATE: 10/16/20 Got car started. The single spade terminal wire fell off the starter when I hit the curb apparently. Immobilizer message = ? Security System Needs Services = alarm siren (Volvo 8637399 Bosch F005 V0 0210) under fender behind RIGHT headlight battery goes dead, corrodes the siren circuit board and gives that fault. Both messages not pertinent to car running. IN FACT, removed the alarm siren with battery disconnected and siren 5A fuse on dash left side ,THEN my moonroof sunroof finally worked. Never worked since I bought the car. SWEET.
Put original front impact sensors back in and they are fine. They must not go bad after one collision. Was told by a local Volvo collision shop they always replace the sensors????
The AutoPhix ES610 scan tool I got off eBay for $60 did indeed reset the SRS faults. WOOHOO!! No Volvo shop needed or crash data programming !!
my car is a 2004 this car at the junkyard is a 2001.
