Thanks for putting this suite together. Makes it easier to find. I’d heard about Yared’s story and had a heck of a time finding on YT but eventually found it. What happened to Yared was real unfortunate. What he put together for the movie was truly epic and grandiose (in the truest sense of those words) with a touch of old-Hollywood sound to it, which is partly why it was rejected. The producers wanted something closer to Gladiator. Yared’s background even gave him the ability to tie in some ethnic musical stylings that gave the movie some geographical depth and authenticity . Would’ve been awesome to see a version of Troy with his score restored to it.
In 2004 Wolfgang Petersen's “Troy” hit cinemas around the globe and received all in all positive feedback. Featuring an all-star cast with names such as Brad Pitt, Orlando Bloom, Sean Bean, Peter O’Toole, Diane Kruger and many more, it is a cinematic experience on an epic scale we don't get to see that much these days. Musical accompaniment was given by James Horner but it's not too widely known, that the movie was originally featuring music by Gabriel Yared. His rejected score is certainly worth a listen and you might decide for yourself, if the decision to replace it was right. Enjoy!
This is the score that SHOULD HAVE been used for this epic film-it’s thrilling, majestic and enthralling to the core!!! Gabriel Yared captures the sweep and scope of this movie better than James Horner did with the replacement music he composed!!! What a missed opportunity for director Wolfgang Petersen and the folks at Warner Brothers!!!
Thanks Fred❤👍🏻 Bravo Gabriel Yared. I knew that his music was discarded. The official soundtrack is by James Horner. Research: Brad Pitt years after the release of the film expressed his disappointment with the latter, stating: “I had to do “Troy” because [...] I turned down another film and for this I had to shoot something for the production company. So I was cast in “Troy.” It was painful, but I realized that the way the film was being told was not how I wanted it to be. Upon its theatrical release, the film was heavily criticized for its innumerable discrepancies with Greek mythology. Note that the events narrated in the film and in the text of the Iliad overlap only for a short period of time (from Achilles' wrath to Hector's funeral). The discrepancies are therefore partly linked to the facts narrated in the Iliad and partly related to Greek mythology.
13:41 WOW. Just wow. From just her voice to the swelling orchestra and then the chorus. Wow. That right there was a gift. Yared was rooting around in the classics but still found a somewhat modern voice for this picture. Where in the world did you find this? I thought it was unreleased by Warners? Too bad his score was pulled before he was actually finished with it. Thanks Fred.
My thinking exactly. It seems to be a great score, which - no matter if it got replaced or not - shall be heard and thankfully we have the possibility! Over one hour of music was released on a promo CD from the time of the films release (by the famed Gorfane/Schwarz agency - the agency of Yared?), probably because of that very same thought - it's music that is very strong and shouldn't be staying unheard for decades... In 2017 Intrada records released the complete score of Horner's music. Usually, if there is some kind of rejected score, they put those out as well after some time but in this case nothing happened for whatever reason... Thankfully the producers of this promo CD seemed to know exactly what and why they were putting it out.
@@SoundtrackFred My next batch of miniature warriors will come to painted life to this suite. This is fantastic - right up there with Goldsmith's 13th Warrior. Great war gaming music.
Quite a nice score, but in contrast to James Horner's, too ordinary for my taste. But thank you for uploading this suite. I don't knew that there was another score to "Troy".
Hello, Fred! Typical: the producers probably felt more comfortable with Jimmy Horner 's manual ( wich flirts with Wagnerian atmospheres )... The Lebanese Yared ( who lived in Brasil between 1971 and 1973, was a pianist in a band and won his first award here _ and only returned to France because of an unrequited love ) brings echoes of Alex North, Carl Orff and even the Greek(!!!) Basil Poledouris; increases the density with a heavy mass of brass winds & male choir & " strange languages "( who you gonna call? The exorcist! ), and still underlines the historical period by mixing " things " like gaida and sistrum!! Maybe it sounds too exotic for Warner, but it's called originality! Thanks and bye!!
@@SoundtrackFred Thank you. I think there are some tracks that Newman did better than Goldsmith. Now of course Jerry Goldsmith wrote a better score but let’s give Randy Newman some love to these tracks, even though it’s cartoonish. Besides Hans Zimmer loved so much that rejected score
They just had to have another insipid James Horner love song featuring Josh Groban for the theatrical release, but by the time they created the extended director's cut, they used snippets of music from anywhere when they just could have stuck with Yared's thunder-plunder original score for the best results.

THANK YOU so much for this Suite. Because of you I learned that Yared is such a wonderful composer😊
This music reminds me of Dimitri Tiomkin. Lots of layers and the crescendo builds.
Love ❤ this movie, 🎦 🎥 🍿, music 🎼🎵 🎶 and soundtrack. Thank you for the upload.

Can you also do the soundtrack suite for the rejected score of Air Force One by Randy Newman, please?
Noted! 😊👍🏼

I rejected the MOVIE, not its music!
Sehr dramatisch....kenne den Film nicht, aber die Schwerter auf dem Cover, deuten alles an
