This sort of character simply isn't allowed to exist at the top level of club football anymore. Football is far more sanitary and sterile now that the middle classes have taken over the game.
sharkie12354 I'd certainly agree with you on Beardsley and Heskey when he was making a name for himself around 96-99. I wasn't at the right age to really appreciate Sharp in his pomp, I only really recall him at Ipswich towards the end of his career. I'm surrounded by Hammers where I live and to a man they romanticise Frank McAvennie so much he's now revered as some sort of supernatural being so it's good to hear another opinion on the matter! Cheers mate.
Bobby Turkalino Macca had 1 unbelievable season in 1986 which has earned him that legend status amongst Spammers fans. In all honesty Frank drank and sniffed his talent away after that, he even admits it in his book. A lot of players can have 1 amazing breakthrough season but the trick is to sustain it and Frank didn't. Maybe he could have gone on and emulated Beardsley but we will never know. I too am a little young to appreciate Sharp but my family say he was pretty decent plus he won more caps than the aforementioned drunken bum we have been discussing.
I’ll take Cottee’s quote over any other comments on here, if TC says it was McAvennie then it was McAvennie, unless you think he’s got good reason to lie.

Nick Ferrari in his youth
Dolly birds? Jesus!😉
Cottee's played with better than him
I'm not disagreeing with you here but who would you say was better that Cottee played with?
Bobby Turkalino Peter Beardsley, possibly even Graeme Sharp. A very young Emile Heskey at Leicester was sensational
