    Just a little advice from someone who has been doing collision repair for 30 years. You should have that car on a frame machine with a set of gauges hung under it to be sure everything is correct. Just because you can get it to fit doesn't mean it's right, the gauges don't lie. You have to square the front and rear sub section to the rails, but the rails have to be right, in order to do that. The only way to check the rails is get it on a machine. If you get the thrust angle off, Which is the imaginary center line of the vehicle , well let's just say , it's not cool. You will end up with what, we used to call a , sidewinder. From behind going down the road it will look as if it's tracking sideways. As you build you will struggle with fitment on about everything too. Just some advice , I have repaired thousands of cars over the last 30 years, picked up a thing or two. , good luck !

      Same boat, thinking the same thing.
      However it's not a route either of us would like, but he could always put it on a frame machine later, pull it into spec and cheat the body panels around it. He's at least in the ballpark or the body panels wouldnt be dropping in so closely.

    • @gunners4129
      @gunners4129 Рік тому +12

      Also keep in mind as he said in the first video he has the factory frame specs and has been going off them when placing the rails and floors.

      Im with Larry on this one. I’ve done a few of these. They come out way better on a frame machine. Even used frame jigs but not as good. Every one that wasn’t done on a frame machine (screwed together) had to be put on a frame machine and welded to be right. Amazing how everything fits together like a jigsaw puzzle when the frame rails, door posts and roof supports are aligned.

    • @Larry--qn4dd
      @Larry--qn4dd Рік тому +3

      @@leonidas953 yes that is correct, you have to have a good foundation to build on. And the best way is to hang some gauges under it.

    • @Larry--qn4dd
      @Larry--qn4dd Рік тому +6

      @@gunners4129 he's struggling a bit , you can force parts in line they look ok, but it will get worse down the line.. the frame specs and measurements are the only way to get it right, and let's also keep in mind that car sustained a hard impact, no way its square withe out proper measuring. A tape measure and levels won't do the job, only a set of suspended guages . I worked on a car once that look perfectly fine upon visual inspection, but once it was suspended on the pinch weld clamps , the passenger side front tire was an inch and a half higher off the frame table than the other side....

    Unreal. I'd love to see more of the process of fitting, welding, etc - if you've got time, film more of it! Great work.

      And some of the fitment problems could be due to the car pretty well wadded up to start with. This project is truly a "love of labor".

    I was gonna say this project is like the full-size automotive equivalent of putting together a model kit or Lego set, but some of the pieces are low-quality Chinese knockoff parts and you have to do a lot of cutting sanding and hammering to make the parts fit. However, it's still cool that you're basically assembling a brand new classic car with bits of an original classic car strewn throughout! What's especially nice is that since not much is original, you don't have to worry about preserving a perfect original car, and you can just have fun driving it guilt-free. It's both a real AAR and not original at the same time. I especially hope you can find the engine and transmission for that reason.
