@@forcabrasil5881 I found that you really have to build the revs up to get it moving, I have always had big diesels so my astra took alot of getting used to, as for top speed I'm unsure, only ever done 80 max, and it was doing 32mpg so I stick to 65-70, that way I can get 39moh maybe 40
Nice video mate. I bought a white 5dr hatchback 1.6 SRI 2013 just before the New Year. I agree, it's beautiful to drive and so quite at any speed. Some people say it's sluggish???? This one is definitely quite the very opposite. You'd be forgiven thinking it was souped up, but it isn't.
I actually like the 1.4 engine, like the golf/scirocco i think its more fun to drive, you have to be better with your gear changes etc, but by all means drive them both and see which you prefer, it wouldn't do for us all to be the same
Bought a 1.4 SRI not long ago, normally aspirated, not the quickest but not screaming on the motorway either. Lovely simple engine to work on/service. Chain driven too rather than needing to worry about the belt on the 1.6. If the belt has just been done and you’ve got the choice of either a bit more power wouldn’t hurt, but no regrets from me, I’ve really enjoyed the car so far.
Hi Barries, am getting vauxhall astra 1.4 16v petrol, some say engine is crap and weak but I can't tell if some people are just picky on things, specially those who want to race like crazy on the motorway, is the 1.4 petol strong enough to get me up roads that are a bit steep aswell or does it struggle, will it roll back?
A vehicle manufacturer would not sell a car if any of their engines wouldn't get you up a steep hill. It's got 100 bhp, not a lawnmower engine. Perfectly sufficient. The problem is people today get treated to high torque turbo petrol or diesels - so when they go back to this type of NA low power car, they think it's shit, but in reality, it'll still get you where you want to go. Best advice, test drive one. Make up your own mind.
Ive just bought a 2011 SRI astra and it looks beautiful its a diesel too, ive never ownded one , so any tips? is it any good? Also the listing said clutch and gear box issues and i dont really know too much about what it means as its my first car, any help? Im so surprised this has cruise control well i think it does , my dads 2016 fiesta new shape doesnt. Im gonna use the car alot for town driving but also sometimes for motorway driving too.
Great review :) i was looking for some drive vid with this engine and here I found it finally :) Is that 1.6 115HP engine enough for this car? On vid it accelerates really cool but I have heard many bad opinions about it's performance :)
I note the Opel Blitz on your profile, Ah the good old days :-) that was the first Garage i worked for selling Opels, I loved my Opel GT, Manta Berlinetta, Monza GSE etc and i grew up in the days when a 2.0 engine was 90 bhp if you were lucky so i think its pretty quick,
@@BarrieCrampton yeah good old Opels :) I currently own an 101HP Astra G and hope to find same good Astra J :) I hope that 115HP engine would give me quite close performance as in my currenr Astra :D (from petrol engines without turbo there's 1.6 16v VVT 115HP and 1.4 100HP but I think 115 would be optimal) :) turbo engines looks cool but I am a bit afraid of it's using costs(duall mass wheel, m32 gearbox ,turbo etc) thanks for your time and help :D
I had one of these exact models for 3 years. It was a decent car, never let me down. However it felt a little bit sluggish. The 1.6 engine in this is a non turbo. It was smooth and ok but never felt lively, prob cos we so used to turbos today.
@@BarrieCrampton Alot of people say this cars sluggish but honestly i think its fairly nippy for what it is... People who think its slow probably dunno how to rev match and drive a manual car properly Lol
@@Trebz50 You're correct and I absolutely agree, I guess it depends on your definition of nippy. I find the engine dangerously lethargic, make sure you plan well ahead when intending to pull out or overtake briskly because it'll stubbornly refuse without fail, it accelerates nowhere near as quickly as an equivalent Golf or Renault.
me and the misses just purchased a 2011 1.6 petrol, lovely to drive and ever so smooth but wow its so gutless

Better off with the 1.6

I believe the 1.4 is a chain the 1.6 is a belt

Where does the rev sit at 70mph? A 6th gear would have been nice.
Sits just a little over 3k. Little bit of a buzz but very quiet and I listen to music anyway.

No, mine is like driving a 1 litre Corsa. Trim and drive are amazing but the engine is as flat as a fart.
